I had a map somewhere, and it's MIA now. Here, have a ghetto map from memory, it's probably inaccurate but close enough.
Wow that's really bad. I'm pretty sure none of those continents are correct. I just remember that they were vaguely in three major continents, and roughly where the party was.
Strata is a flat earth shaped rather like the Outlands. There's an infinitely tall mountain in the center of importance, and the edges are waterfalls that go into the void. Circling it is the sun (a hole to the plane of fire), the moon (a hole of the plane of earth) which rotate above, and two spheres which orbit the rim, two eternal storms (plane of air and plane of water). Due to events in the backstory, something happened at that giant uber mountain and now there is an ever expanding shroud of darkness coming from the center of the world. It's ruined two nations already and everyone else is afraid it'll keep growing. And the Accursed, which started at the same time, tend to have visions of things within the shroud. So the accursed travel into the shroud for answers...
The party is currently in Rubicon (read: England). They had decided earlier that they would go from their starting city over the land route, through Rubicon, Taphos (read: Egypt), and eventually someplace called Dragon Tower within Rhetor, the City of Magic, within ruined Chrysanthemum. Their next upcoming town is a place called Roanoke, at the border of Rubicon and Taphos.
You're still in civilization at the moment. The moment you hit Taphos, expect civilization to quickly die out as you enter the shroud.
Expect darkness, or at least dim illumination, when within the shroud and prepare for it thusly.
Here's a previous post which details some of it. It was before they left for the mansion, the Marlowe Estate.
Hear hear!
Dragon Tower by land it is. Get some rest, our heroes, for you have a long trip ahead of you. Between the alcohol addled minds and the fatigue of battle, you all find rest tonight. Well, everyone but Matsu, who experiences the visions rather strongly. Fortunately it won't be enough to disrupt him from getting rest and refreshing his abilities, but your mark bothers you greatly in your slumber. Perhaps it was the brief mental contact with agents of the cloaked one, or perhaps just a really bad roll of God's dice.
When the morning light comes again you will be able to come down for breakfast and to catch up on recent events. Let's review what we know.
The path of Dragon Tower will bring you to Rhetor, the City of Magic within Chrysanthemum. It is deep within the shroud, so you won't get there for a while. In the way (with only minor detours) are the Chrysantheian cities of Equites and Chorobates. According to the half-elf priest here, there is a safe zone within the arena in Equites. And to even get there, you still need to pass through Taphos. Going by foot is slow, but you'll not likely to find boats or airships going that way.
If you leave from here and follow the beaten path you will pass by the presumably abandoned Marlowe estate. From there, the town of Roanoke at the border of Taphos. Then the three remaining occupied Taphos cities, and the point where you will start losing the light of the sun. Most of Taphos is engulfed by the darkness, and most of the cities have been ruined or abandoned.
In (rough) order of proximity, if you go straight along the path, first there is the trade town of Rhine. The town is fairly new and used to be a minor depot, but when people fled it bloated. It's pretty much the last city not under the shroud. In close proximity, and both shrouded in darkness there is Exodus, "city" of exiles. It's little more than a shantytown filled with the unwanted and marked who have stopped their journey short. And there is Sothis, the last stand for most of the civilized world and the main militant force putting pressure on the shades.
After that, civilization is all but lost so you may want to do your major shopping in Rhine, or establish ways to get back to it when you delve in. After this you might run into small camps but no "cities". None alive anyway. There's the capital Maat, Deshret which lies upon the shore, the Necropolis of Duat, the lost city of Taphos mages known as Heka deep within the desert, and the city of gold Per-Ankh. Though, rumor has it Per-Ankh's demise was more of its populace than shades, who stripped the city of riches down to its core and fled with their ill gotten goods. Rumor still persists about the legendary stockpile of gold that someone (attributed to various bandits and villains) and their hidden gold stock.
Taphos is largely arid, with large deserts. Following the shore is the long way, and out of the way of many cities and former cities, but you won't have to worry about desert conditions. In spite of not being able to see the sun, heat still comes through the shroud so it won't always be cold all the time either.
From Taphos, another choice between sea or land exists. There's a shortcut across the bay from Deshret, but no boats to take you unless you acquire your own. Otherwise it's the longer way over land as you enter the mountainous terrain of Chrysanthemum. But that choice can be made later, when you get there.
It'll take 6 days on foot to reach Roanoke. Make your final preparations if any. And to help with that, it seems you all have gotten a request to run by the Pathfinder Agency building at some point. It seems there's rewards out there for those who take down powerful threats and find previously unrecorded sinkholes. With the devil bird dead, plus whatever Lacan's team could gather up as reward for your efforts, you all will have enough funds to bring you up 3000 gp each. Shopping money, cheers!
