Retraining class levels
« on: October 04, 2016, 06:53:24 PM »
I was reading PH2 retraining class levels option and I just want to make sure what I am thinking is correct.

Lets say we have a wizard 7/loremaster 8/Archmage 5
Would the wizard be able to trade 2 of his wizard levels to became wizard 5/loremaster 10/Archmage 5?

Later if he is an epic level characrer wizard 7/loremaster 18/Archmage 5 would he be able to trade  6 levels of wizard to become wizard 1/loremaster 24/Archmage 5?
The way I read it is possible to do it but I may be missing something.

Its actually rebuilding for class levels, not retraining. Fine distinction, I know, but the book gives both those words a specific game meaning, so it is important to be clear  :tongue

Now that I've got the semantics out of the way, I can answer your question. Yes, it works, with the caveat that the DM has to approve of it and, if approved, your character has to complete a quest. The book specifically mentions rebuilding for power as a potential problem, so take care.

Mostly simple answer is yes.

Not-quite as simple answer, combined
with the one example they give = maybe,
probably yes if you mind your pre-reqs tightly.

Fighter 8 ---> Fighter 6 / the Prc 2
You're effectively using the prc class to qualify for itself.
A possible interpretation of all this, is an intermediate step
Fighter 8 ---> Fighter 6 / R.H.D. 2 ---> Fighter 6 / the Prc 2
and so long as the qualifications are kept up = no problem.
Or could also be considered what happens when you
have levels in a class but no longer qualify for it.

So Wizard 7 / Loremaster 1 has to keep up the
2 skills at 10 ranks while the Rebuild goes on.
If so = good.
Lots of cheese potential here.  Lots !!

Nice, well I am the dm and I was creating some powerful npcs, and sure I know that I can give whatever stats I want but always like it if it is legal.
