Technically they forbid inebriation I think, but whats the point of alcohol without that?
Everything is edible. Just that there are things only edible once per lifetime.

They could be drinking tea or coffee instead.

You can get some rather good food in the majority of the pubs in this country nowadays...

At the posting rate I had before this post, I'm going to reach 100 posts in approximately 58 days.

Posts before this one:

Transferring half a dozen pages-worth of threads over in one go might have had something to do with that.

Good point on that, importing content from the old board is one really fast way to rack up that count. I mean look at Uncle Kitteh, hes unassailable.

Or is it that a Mormon and a Muslim are both, stereotypical, unlikely to be found in a bar, especially in a casual chat with each other?

Not just stereotypically - both religions explicitly forbid alcohol :p

While true, it doesn't necessarily preclude them from having a conversation at a bar, though it would likely require strange circumstances.

Nope, both strictly forbid alcohol, period.  The Islamic prohibition is slightly more open to interpretation, but the majority of scholars interpret it to mean "absolutely none".  The Mormon prohibition is pretty clear though.

This is true; it would have worked if the joke had run "sitting in a bar, having a beer" though :p

In a bar? Not in my country, you get vodka and/or beer or you pack you stuff and exit the establishment.

Doesn't preclude also aiming for inebriation.

I'm quite assailable if people are willing to port over enough handbooks  :tongue
