D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Re: 3.5 Druid PHB Only
« on: November 28, 2023, 09:46:39 PM »
Shapeshift variant is significantly weaker, but does exist at 1st level.  If you expect the game to last, regular druid is the superior option*.  What domain you want is really based on theme, they're all fine.  Except Animal, which is utterly redundant for a Druid.  Plant at least gets you a command plants ability, which is at least cool.  I think Fire would give you the most spells that aren't native to the Druid list.

However, you may want a 13 strength anyway, because there aren't many feats you can use for wildshape in PHB other than Weapon Focus and Power Attack.

*I've played Shapeshift specifically for that handicap before.  Its stronger at 1st, but weaker after 4th.  For some parties its keeps the druid from feeling so munchkin.

Those weird AoO rules just mean the best weapon for area denial are bog standard pole arms.  Eat your heart out spiked chain, longspear still gets to whack people moving into the donut hole.  Suck it dragons, a guy with a glaive is more annoying to close with!  Embiggen for extra annoyance.

Benign Transposition (Level 1, Spell Compendium), is good for bail-outs on the tactical level.  Also useful for using someone with a charger build to help move a pokey character into place.

Wizard / warblade or wizard / crusader?
Because for AoO wouldn't be better crusader with thicket of blades?
I was considering the Warblade's bonus feats and Int based class features would let you focus on being a wizard first, the AoOs are just one part.  Besides, Iron Heart Surge cheese.
Crusader could be fine if you really want to focus more on AoOs.

What about bard with dragonfire inspiration and words of creation instead of wizard for more buffing?
Bard//Crusader has good synergy.

Another option could be Wizard/Warblade; with Warblade focusing on Counters and Boosts while wielding a reach weapon.  Cast on your turn, smack with AoOs.  Keep a strike or two ready for when you want to save spells.

Can't say I'm familiar with that one.

I have used it before, but Dreamscarred Press' Pathfinder iteration (Same author) has much more player friendly takes on all hybrids.  Lower bonuses and none of that absurd LA garbage that makes races unplayable.  Should be largely fine for a 3.5 game.

The Green Ronin version is perfectly good for DM use, since the trouble of LA is irrelevant.   The templates are great for filling out a wizard's menagerie or the like.

You've got experience now, and other companies are desperate for people now.  Good luck!
But don't tell the new places why you quit.  They're fuckers too.  Tell them you wanted to expand your opportunities, or whatever PR bullshit you can come up with.

I've mentioned 3rd party votes before.

This go round, the LIbertarians were shorn of the Paleos for Trump, and the Pragmatists for Biden.  That consistent 1 to 1.2% around the country, really made a difference.  The Libertarian vote was bigger (!) than the margin between the #1 and #2 vote getters in :  Arizona , Nevada , Wisconsin , Pennsylvania , and Georgia , and also the N Carolina senate race and the Georgia Perdue-Ossoff race.   Noticable effect.

Other than President, I voted Libertarian again this election.  Because its the closest thing we have to a second party out here on the edge of bum-fuck.  I wish them well everywhere, because fuck the two party system with a rusty flag pole and a constitutional amendment or two.

Because of how long the process is taking, I'm getting pinged regularly by my European relatives wondering what exactly is going on and why this is such a drawn out event. They're all very perplexed, especially when I mention that PA has until Friday to finish counting votes, etc.

The amusing thing to me about this is that our voting counting process always takes this long and it's like everyone forgets about that.
I blame the fuckers in the media's need to breathlessly treat is as if it was the result of a sportsball game and we'd have the final score after the next commercial break.  Even though official tallies are at least a day after poll closing in all but the most obvious blowouts.
There's a month between Election day and the Electoral College meeting for a damned good reason.  We're American, we no math gud.

After double checking*, no possession abilities, nor magic jar, are mind affecting (they nudge aside the soul).  Mind Blank and the like don't seem to protect against them.  The first level spell Protection from Evil shuts all forms down hard however.

Immunity to mind-affecting abilities would block any read thoughts ability the posessor might have.

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Re: Pathfinder 1E is getting a spin-off

I'm keeping an eye on it.  Having at least one person on staff that wrote handbooks for Pathfinder says something about their mentality going in.  Should be interesting to see what they come up with at the least.   And that bullet point list ticks quite a few house rules boxes off for me.

Their classes over on d20PFSRD show they really prefer the Arcanist casting style.

What idiotic douchenozzles.

Magelord from Lost Empires of Faerun requires 5th level spells and Evasion as a class or racial ability.  Making it impossible to enter before 12th level (One level later than Fochluan Lyricist), or finish all 10 levels without the Epic rules.   To the best of my knowledge, the only non-epic PrC that does that.  Even the 13 level Void Disciple is available for entry after 7th.

Archmage and Hirophant both require 7th level spells, but are only 5 levels long.

The sheets over at Myth-Weavers automatically calculate it for your based on STR and Size.  I've always trusted their numbers, but maybe they just came up with an approximation?
The chart ends at 29, then it tells you to quadruple the load for every 10 points up.  Easy enough for a look-up-table and simple math.
Max weight for a heavy load is Str * 10 lb. at 10 Str and lower. From 11 through 15, it's an exponential curve, doubling every +5 Str, rounded to the nearest 5 lb (100 * 2 ^ ((Str - 10) / 5)). Str of 16 and higher continues that curve, although for simplicity the rounding part of the equation is dropped in favor of just being 2x what the carrying capacity of -5 Str was. Light load and medium load limits are 1/3 and 2/3 of the heavy load limit, respectively, rounded to the nearest lb.
I bow to your superior giving a shit and math skills, good sir.
