You could start up our own version of the Iron Chef Challenge, but I think you'd have to specific an OP threshold. Like challenge 1 make a crit-based killer who doesn't cast Spells, can murder CR 30s, but should die if he faces a CR 40 Deity and no ubercharging. Otherwise the same very reliable tricks will just keep getting posted.

The chief problem with optimization is as the more clear your understanding of which options are the most powerful the more you'll trend towards them creating a stagnation.

I can't force the bile down long enough to post an Iron Chef challenge on GitP.

En passant, the CL method of brute-forcing the TBoS' AMF is rendered moot by casting it as a Su instead of a normal spell.  That being said, AMF-ing his ass in  higher CL AMF works just fine.

As a sysadmin bash is the only thing I ever actually want to program in every again.

I learned Java in college and then promptly forgot it all.

Good riddance.  Java needs to die in the same fire as Flash.

Err... why, exactly?

See rant above - it more applies to that than in general (though in general I've seen more bugs that could be resolved in Java than every other language combined, save maybe HTML 4.0...).  Flash is web design bias...I never liked it for websites, other than dedicated and sandboxed games, and absolutely DESPISE it on anything remotely professional (like almost every single site at the company I used to work for, further compounded by a total lack of the source files to change the swf's and then getting a blank stare when requesting them from everyone but the original dev...who was no longer working there).  Oh yeah, and ever seen what happens when the remote server hiccups just a little bit when there's flash on the page?  Good way to meet Googlesaurus the broken page!  None of mine do that - it's gotta be some serious traffic spikage on GoDaddy (where most of my clients like to host...sadly) for the server to not be able to serve a static HTML file and all libraries from Google's CDNs.

Having said bash, good to know I'm not the only one eschewing the Redmond Koolaid :D

Oh, I haven't looked at the thing in forever so I forgot.

Edit: yeah, going back and looking at it it's far simpler than I remembered. I thought it required you to be able to pass these checks an unlimited number of times per day, or required you to have +100 to all skill checks, saves, etc.

Like I said, beating any of the three really isn't too difficult.  It's beating all three with the restrictions of all three that became challenging, with the self-imposed restriction of doing it with a full-manifester type and no Thrallherd.

That being said, I am tempted to post up a "Raistlin-style" build that does it as a Wizard, though it's kinda annoying as there's already one Incantatrix (Mr. Roboto).  It'll be doing it a far different way, though, so shouldn't be a big deal in that department.

EDIT: AMF is a fixed range spell...what has stopped us from slapping Reach Spell on it and dropping one with a high CL on the TBoS, by the way?  AMF his ass then nuke with Spell Matrix/Arcane Fusion Macross Missle Massacre of Lesser Orbs?

Yes, keep feeding my hatred of web design. :p

Not a fan of Javascript?  Please tell me you're not a JAVA person :(

I just don't like making webpages, whatsoever. Javascript is part of that.

I love web design - it's the SEO part that pisses me off :P  Not to mention every business in the world being gullible enough to drink the Java App Koolaid and then seeming to think it's our fault the shit Java app looks like shit on a mobile device (this is why I ORDER them to force the Javatards to grant full permissions and front-end access, or no deal...if I can't POST or GET, let alone restyle it using -shudder- a .jsp, it's pointless).

I got the ID, popped up to the parent node, and removed the child node.

That's just a preference thing - display: none and visibility: hidden would both so the trick, if I remember my CSS right.

Pretty much (visibility: hidden just leaves a big blank spot).  Hadn't even thought of using their own jQuery (though I'm sure the libraries are there for it, and Greesemonkey can likely load it anyway if it weren't).  I've been writing a lot of raw JS lately so that's what was fresh :P

I do know in a lot of instances, jQuery functions tend to be a lot prettier, though the last couple sites I've worked on have enough overhead from both...I usually just append the function to another script and include a call out for it.  Truth be told, it's been more rewriting than writing - minification ftw!

110
Yep.

It's also a bit of a problem that we're, you know, primarily a forum for a niche part of a niche hobby.

I'm trying and failing to write a Greesemonkey script that hides Disqus comments. It's really, really frustrating, because I'm reasonably sure that this is a problem caused by stuff I can't do anything about on my end.

Grr...

EDIT: You know, it would have helped if Greesemonkey was, you know, enabled.

Yeah.

Amechra is no longer allowed to use a computer, for he is dumb.

Just a mental exercise, but wouldn't the quickest way on that - if you don't care about the comments at all - be to do a getElementById followed by adding display: none; to the section?  Removes it from the DOM, but if you're doing it to speed up loading, it's likely the quickest way.

Off Topic Fun / Re: Please read this if you have Windows 7 or 8

The penguin, it calls!  In all seriousness, I DO have a Windows 7 tower now, if nothing else because that's what came with it - but I'll have to relearn crap as I go because I've been 100% Linux for the better part of a decade now on my own PCs (though if I can find the settings list to change 7 to function similar to Unity like what I had at my old job, that'd make things a LOT smoother).

That being said, the little bit I've used 10 seems like a slightly glazed over 7/8 hybrid with a fancy unsupported but relatively fast browser, so a lot like KDE 4 when it first came out (as opposed to now...KDE 4 and 5 I dare say are the most newbie friendly DEs on ANY operating system).

And the registry hack is likely the most robust method for keeping the updater at bay (that and shutting off the automatic updates, as that can also cause a svchost.exe process to run nontop and annihilate processor resources).

If shape shifting is allowed during that part, it's Str as a Colossal Legendary Ape + Enhancement.  If not, by using the CL trick and UMD/Wyrm Wizard/however you wanna snag it Owl's Insight.

EDIT: An ability score isn't part of the 10^100 FYI, so those would only be used for buffing Jump checks and Will saves, which a skill check and a save ARE part of the 10^100 :D

113
Well I can certainly do it at 20th with thrallherd, as you well know. Otherwise, the only other original way I can think of beating all 3 is at 21st level. Unless of course you can get primary contact twice somehow without fusioning thralls, or if you know of some other way to get epic spell casting prior to 21st level that doesn't involve psionics.

In any case TBoS was never the issue for me. It's the 10^100 part that gets me.

Look into Circle Magic + GCF with a few buffs :D  One quick MDJ later and the TBoS is toast, but that same CL is beastly with stuff like Algid Enhancement.  Hell, I have a sorc build somewhere that blows the 10^100 away - that one is more a buff test than anything for a caster.

114
I think I can do it, but it needs to be 21st level; and I assume by "form altering magic" you mean shapechange and the like. It's really fucking difficult to do this without using shapechange at least during some point in the process.

Also...how does consumptive field apply to ML? Even under transparency rules it shouldn't apply since CL and ML are distinctly different (e.g. They don't stack with each other if you're multi classed so they should be treated as separate stats even under transparency rules).

The most efficient way to beat all 3 challenges to be totally honest is with a Spelldancer, similar to the Archivist entry to the Gish challenge (that basically turned into an Atlas BattleMech).  I just wanted to see if it can be done with psionics without using Thrallherd.

Any of the circle mages can also annihilate all 3 challenges, and as noted before, several weaknesses in the TBoS were never discussed until these threads here, such as his inability to function (or his buffs) if you make the check on an AMF impossible for him to make to cast out of.  Gotta say, I do like the brute force method of batch-hosing all his buffs though :P

Fucking Ajax and form submissions...and the end point is all written in Java, so can't do jack shit until the admins there do a stack trace on the error (that is 99.9% likely on their end...).

Damn.

Yeah, it's probably on their end.

It was...they'd changed one of the required fields.  Once it was added to the string, everything went through flawlessly (and dispatched an email to the agent's email on their phone, no less).  So at least it worked out in the end :)

It is currently stupidly cold outside.

Same here.  Who let Sor0's cold sorc control the weather?

Creations & Ephemera / Pathfinder Optimization Blog
« on: February 06, 2016, 10:30:24 PM »
Hi all,

In an attempt to have a fully centralized resource for Pathfinder builds and class/archetype combinations, I've begun work on a wordpress.com website for optimized PF builds.  The tier system is front and center on the home page (and linked back to the post here), and as I go, I will be adding guides.  I also am under no delusions of being the be-all end-all PF master, and would love it if anyone here would like to contribute a post to the blog and/or engage on commentary on the posts once they go live.  Just PM me and I can send an email invite and make you an author.  There will likely be all kinds of linking to this site especially.

The blog/site will also have a Homebrew/Migration section, and I want to keep the same type of citation for anyone's works as above - e.g. TM20's PF Wizard gets linked to his guide here.  Eventually I will also setup an author section as well (especially if the blog starts getting traffic...which after FIRST MAKING IT was at almost 30 page views not counting my own).  Thanks everyone, and hope to see you there!

I wish I knew what it meant to be well rested.

I really do.

Then I have to face the prospect of sleep, which frightens me a little - which is strange because I don't have nightmares or anything.

I've had dark bags under my eyes for years.

I have no problems getting to sleep - I have no problems once I'm asleep. I can sleep in without a problem.

It's just that I hold off on sleep until I'm really exhausted.

And now my left eye has a twitch - it's probably nothing.

I think my insomnia primarily stems from a deep seated drive for efficiency, and spending hours a day of my life in stasis is TERRIBLY inefficient.
