"Safer than... staying here. Or anywhere... else."Ris-Janna wrinkles her nose and frowns, then shoves Raoul slightly in the portal's direction.

Marlowe shakes his head. "I'll go make sure this side of the portal is clear. The timing needs to be quite precise." Blurring slightly, he vanishes from sight.

Orgesht can smell that a mortal recently passed through here. None of the rest of the party's senses detect anything out of the ordinary (for Limbo...).

"We're supposed to wait until after our lead goes through the portal, and we're not to disturb him before he does. Once he goes through, though, we need to leave just enough time for him to get offed, and then go through ourselves. Our..." Cade decides discretion is the better part of success in their plans, "mutual friend said the portal would appear and disappear soon after. His 'friend' can't be too long off from arriving and going through, so we had better hide."

Cade looks for whatever terrain he can use to blend in with, though it's not easy.

"My most abject apologies for the impertinence of my question Lord Cade. But would this lead you speak of be, perhaps, a mortal? One has passed through recently." the decaying kobold pauses a moment to scratch at a suppurating pustule between flaking scales, "The, ahem, stench is difficult to mistake."

"I don't know. Our 'friend' didn't mention anything about this guy's appearance."

Ris-Janna wrinkles her nose at Orgesht, but doesn't comment on the 'stench'. "Midday over Dalelands... open for a short... time. Shouldn't interfere before... he crosses. Even if it wasn't him... didn't say anything about crossing... first. We should go."

"No, we were instructed to follow him in, and to not interfere with his death. If we go in first, it may cause problems with the intended sequence of events."

As you are discussing what to do, you notice the portal waver a bit unstably.

Ris-Janna's head snaps up, fixating on the portal. "Closing... now or never. He's through or he... won't come."

"Hrmm... I think you're right. Let's go!"

Cade concentrates, moving all of his allies next to portal, then, nodding to them, walks through it.

With feeling: "Shit."

Dwvar hustles through the portal.

"If I have to leap into an unknown portal in the middle of fucking nowhere, then I'm landing on your ass."

Raoul promptly pushes Ris-Janna through the portal and leaps afterward.

Marlowe doesn't waste any time commenting, entering the portal quickly afterward.

As you step through the portal, you appear in a relatively small room which is furnished with an impeccably clean and organized desk and stylish, if a bit dated, furniture. In the middle of the room is a dead troll, covered in odd wounds of an indeterminate nature mixed with a few slashes. From the gear you see on it, the troll must have been some kind of spellcaster.

Standing over it is a swarthy man with a black handlebar mustache whose features seem a bit too symmetrical and perfect to be entirely human. In one hand he holds what appears to be a dull grey butcher knife, and in the other a scimitar wreathed in smoke, which curls around the man and obscures his features somewhat. He wears armor of an odd design, and the black cowl of his cloak is covered in arcane symbols stitched in silver thread (which those of you familiar with such things recognize as symbols indicating warning, danger, and premonition). As your group appears in the room, the symbols immediately flash with a red light and he calmly turns his gaze from the troll to you.

Ris-Janna snaps her head back as she's pushed through the portal and stumbles forward a step before recovering into a squatting position. Her eyes sweep over the room in a second before fixating on the man with the mustache. For a moment, she just stares at him and licks her lips.
