Vertical tables for fancier levels (1st, 2nd, etc. instead of just the number).

Might as well make this useful. Basic table template code. Stick your vertical table columns in here.

The vertical method is excellent! It makes the tables very modular. Want to add spellcasting? Just add another embedded table at the end. Great work all around - Garryl, Prime (table collapse is nice in lieu of cell borders)

Totally going to try this for my T5 project! I've been getting the feeling many people don't trust mediafire links based on view counts and download counts.
I might have some problems with the Special width, but it's worth trying - though a pixel hard-cap would be awesome if we could find code to support it. (I notice ="width=" with both percent and pixels doesn't work for either the embedded tables or indiviual cells.)

Any idea what causes the minor size difference in the Spells table though? And can [table2=1] and [table2=collapse] be combined?

Each row has a small, inherent height. Since the spells vertical table uses two rows for the header (instead of one), it has a slight bulge. You can get rid of that by adding [row2][/row2] at the top of the other vertical tables (just before their first header rows). I'll try to go through them and add in that spacing pseudo row when I have the chance.

I tried that, as well as up to 5 instances of [row2][/row2] for the others but Spells was still offset (and was the only one to be offset).

EDIT: Actually, I'm going to try one more thing.
EDIT2: Okay, I tried adding the row tags below the first set (with Special, Level, etc.) instead of above them, and I also tried adding the row tags below the entire set (1st/2nd/3rd/4th/5th, for instance, with the Level table), but none of those methods changed anything.

Is there a way to use something like this to get fixed width tables here on MinMax?: [TABLE="class: outer_border, width: 400"]

Some of these settings are interesting too: http://www.knowledgesutra.com/forums/topic/47184-new-custom-bbcode-table/

Sorry, it needs a cell in there, as well, not just an empty row.

[row2][cell][/cell][/row2]

If you're using a vertical table with multiple columns that needs this spacing, you'll also need that many non-cells in the non-row (or use the appropriate cellspan).

Can this be stickied, at least until the boilerplates are active?

Hey Garryl, did you do any columns for other spellcasting progressions, like bard or ranger/paladin?

EDIT: nevermind.  I swear I can read...

Very, very nice...

I will be robbing those vertical tables; as it was, I was making all my tables by hand in either GitP or the Competitor Games forums, and then porting them over here: it took FOREVER.

A few boilerplates are now available (see the new "Please choose..." box while posting). The software doesn't like angle brackets though, so I've had to take those out.

Let me know if you can't see it, or have any other problems.

+1 bhu.

I'm thinking someone who knows how to work the tables (I don't have a grasp on how to make them yet) makes up a bunch of them, one 20, one 10, one 5, and then has separate tables that you can add for spells/maneuvers/powers/etc (is that possible?  or would you have to add them line by line?).  Point is to make it as easy to copy a table and fill it in as possible.  Also, add the templates for classes/PrC/monsters/etc, so they exist in some place other than just post templates.

See my vertical tables (replies ~10-22). You can mix and match columns as you see fit. I made 20 level versions for most everything, and 10 level versions for the things that differ between base classes and PrCs. Changing the number of rows in them is easy enough, too , if you want to make shorter classes (such as 3, 5, or 7 level long PrCs). They should be good for your classes' needs, at least. Also includes premade columns for most magic and magic-like systems (spellcasting, psionics, martial adepts, incarnum, invoking, and even Marshal auras).

Is there a way to have it be flush (no space between column) and still keep the information presented by typing into the correct column?  Or would it have to be information by row if you did it that way?

Use [table2=collapse][/table2] for the overall table to remove the spaces.

Okay, next question: anyone have any idea why there's a huge gap between the text above the table and the table itself?
