"Well, fellas, I think we should check it out, but we probably shouldn't be seen. I should be able to get in and out of there without too much trouble. Wait here, and... er, don't freak out. It's one of those tricks I was talking about, earlier."

You see Elizabeth pull out a pewter rat miniature from her pocket, that she is often seen fumbling with. She focuses on it, and throughout the course of a minute, she is transformed into a rat. Once she gets her bearings, the rat scurries toward the barn.

"It's no wonder you and Barnes got along." Lionel replied.  There were many things he didn't understand, but there was an explanation for everything.  Actually, no, that wasn't true.  People's behaviors could be difficult to explain sometimes.  But things like the sun rising, and watering being wet, that was constant.

Which is why he was quietly annoyed at himself as Elizabeth pulled a magic trick he couldn't figure out.  Turning into a rat.  That didn't actually happen, did it?  Yet there it was, right in front of him.  Maybe she stepped out of sight and dropped a pet rat, something trained.

Urgh.

Bhu, can I get in the house? I want to see if anyone lives inside.

Are there any animals around?

If there are you don't hear any.  You get into the house easy.  It's damn dark, and even with your low light vision you can't see much as teh rain outside blocks most of the moon and starlight.   You can smell spoiled food though.  Spoiled food and blood.  Ans what's likely gunpowder.

I don't want to get lost in there, so I'll head back to the guys, and change back once I'm far enough away from the barn that I'm not worried about being seen.

To the group: you see a rat approach, that pauses when it's a bit away from you. Then, it starts to grow, and turns back into Elizabeth. She walks up to you.

"The thing is in the barn. It's huge, and it's too dark to make much out in the way of details. They way it's breathing makes it sound injured, but I don't know that we can just shoot it to death; at least, not with just the three of us. There's a thick trail of some sort of slime leading into the barn. I'm not sure how long this thing is going to stay here.

I went to the house. It's dark, but it smells like spoiled food, blood, and gunpowder. My guess is, the homeowners shot at this thing and got killed, but I can't really tell without any more light, and I don't dare light the place up with that... thing so close by."

Bhu, how far is this farm from the town?

Would some of the creature's slime count as something "linked to it" for Banish? If so, how close do I have to get to the barn to get some?

"I'll be right back, I hope. I need to collect some of that slime before the rain washes it away... unless one of you is really good at sneaking and wants to volunteer."

I'll regroup with everyone.

"I may be able to attempt a ritual to banish this thing from this world... assuming it wasn't summoned by someone else. It's risky, and I'm not sure I'm good enough. Bringing a militia here to shoot the thing up after burning the barn down is probably just as risky. We can try to go to Philadelphia, where I've been assured help is waiting. I don't know what kind of help, and if it will be too late.

Do either of you have thoughts on the matter?"

Bhu, how long does it take to travel to Philadelphia?

"Philadelphia send like the wise choice. More help cannot hurt the situation. And if you're not sure about banishing this in your own, let's not go getting out our selves killed on hopes."
