D&D 5e / Gems in D&D 5th's Twitter FAQ (aka fun finds faq edition)
« on: March 17, 2015, 12:18:58 AM »
Exactly at the title suggests.
And if you have no idea what I'm talking about, Jeremy Crawford is the official Sage of 5th and he plus his co-authors (including Mike Mearls) are in charge of a Twitter-based FAQ article. Some of these entries are awesome; like confirmation that in 5th you can use the Sorcerer's Empower on your Cleric Spells

LINK

I'll start.
Does Twinned Spell make two spell instances (I.E., can't Concentrate on both spells) or change one spell instance to 2 targets?
"One spell instance, two targets." ~JC

Can magic missile or scorched ray be twinned if caster only targets a single creature?
"The Twinned Spell feature is intended to work on spells that can normally target only one creature." ~JC
"I'd say it's ok, but be leery for any other spells that it might cause issues with." ~MM
Little contradictory but that is a direct yes from Mike.

Enter Twinned Extended Witch Bolt which uses a 1st level slot & 2 SP. There is only one instance to Concentrate on and Mike-supported to hit the same creature twice so you can deal up to 2d12+Cha per round. That's 360 damage per casting making it currently most efficient damage from a spell slot in the game. And Mike will let you use Empower too.

You just need a higher Speed than your opponent when you use it ;)

D&D 5e / The Lost Lord's party...
« on: January 25, 2015, 11:37:01 PM »
Perhapes you've seen my Lost Lord submission modeled after the Overlord games. It has some really nice damage, minions, and some amazing defenses. Well shortly after that I found my burst stealthy DPS using Fighter/Rogue/Ranger that deals more than twice the figure listed in WotC's Handbooks and more than three times that with a little party help.

By my count, that's the tank & thief. I still need a healer and an arcane. :D
On the Arcane I know for a fact the goal is Sorcerer due to the Sorcery Points mechanic allowing his Simulacrums to replenish their Spell Slots. Heck, by strict RAW those Slots never expire so there is nothing stopping you from stockpiling Slots during your down time (I smell a need for errata). Anyway, that locks the build into 17 levels of Sorcerer and Wild seems in every way superior to Draconic thanks to that 1d4 bonus/penalty and two dice choice off the Wild table. But what to dip afterwards? Bard seems like the logical choice, it'd help the party and boost Initiative. Thoughts?

And the healer, I know yet-another-druid/monk-build" is probably running through your head but what about the Cleric? Any pointers for a good multi-class Cleric (or druid) that still packs access to 9th level Spells?

I like you just the way you are, losing. ~Mr Rogers.

You know the story, someone is like my dad can beat up your dad, Batman vs Ironman, Star Wars vs Dune, Superman vs Ichigo, Ronald McDonald vs Wendy. Well what happens if we started shoving random franchises together for the hell of it?

Attempt at a topic #1 - Batman & Inspector Gadget vs Yagami Light & Misa Amane
Last night all the super villains in Arkham died of a heart attack, Bruce Wayne calls for the Justice League but only a man in a gray trench coat can come. Can the heroes figure out how it was done and who did it before Bruce Wayne clutches his chest?

Gaming Advice / Spirit Shield Source?
« on: December 11, 2014, 01:16:39 AM »
Spirit Shield
Another Rashemaar enchanted item, a spirit shield functions as a shield +2, provides its bearer with a +2 to all saving throws, and reduces all attacks on the bearer by 1 point of damage each. The witches claim that the shield's powers arise from the powerful spirits bound to it.
XP Value: 1,500
Anyone have a source on this?

Min/Max 3.x / Base Class++?
« on: December 04, 2014, 06:03:33 PM »
Sometimes you find another Class that just seems to be everything your Base Class does or wants to be. And more often than not they are intended to stack to new heights of power rather than serve as a replacement but not always. You may often see them complimenting any suggestion about such class but has anyone really sat down to list them?

Aristocrat -> OA Samurai
Artificer -> Alchemist Savant or Wizard
Barbarian -> Frenzy Berzerker
Bard -> Sublime Chord
Beguiler -> Mindbender (well, 1 level anyway)
Binder -> ?
Cleric -> Radiant Servant of Pelor
Commoner -> 9 int Wizard, at least he has a book to sell. Also chicken infested commoner.
Dragonfire Adapt -> Heir of Siberies
Dread Necromancer -> Tainted Sorcerer
Druid -> Planar Shephard
Duskblade -> Abjuration Champion
Factotum -> Chameleon
Fighter -> Warblade
Monk -> Unarmed Swordsage
Paladin -> Mystic Fire Paladin with Sword of the Arcane Order & Initiate of Milil
Psion -> Anarchic Initiate
Psychic Warrior -> Ardent
Ranger -> Stalker of Kharash or Mystic Ranger from Dragon Magazine
Rogue -> Factotum?
Scout -> ?
Sorcerer -> Steel Dragon?
Soulknife -> Soulbow
Spellthief  -> Hellbreaker
Swordsage -> Telflammar Shadowlord
Warlock -> Hellfire Warlock
Warmage -> Rainbow Savant
Witch -> Beguiler
Wizard -> Shadowcraft Mage or Incantatrix

What do you think and what all did I miss?

[d20M] Go Go Power Rangers! / Phase 1 - IC
« on: October 12, 2014, 04:51:11 PM »
In the middle of somewhere a fancy control room's light's kick on. An alarm sounds and red lights flash everywhere. A mechanical voice sounds out, "Warning: incoming game. Warning: incoming game." Lights flash across a large tube as it surfs the entire Internet to learning the language of it's people.

Series
Episode 1 - Bigfoot
Episode 2 - ?

A cat's face, a figure worshiped as a god then and now, flashes across the tube saying: "PO wake up."
A nearby shiny gold robot's eyes light up: "I am C-3PO, human-cyborg relations. How might I be of service?" it says to no one who cares.
Floating cat head: "It's Robotnik, he is moving towards this inhabited planet."
C-3PO: Ay-yi-yi! What do we do? We're doomed, I just know it.
Floating cat head: "Teleport to us five overbearing and none-emo humans."
C3PO: "There's been some terrible mistake. I'm programmed for etiquette, not ranger selection."
Floating cat head: "Use your random number generator."
C3PO: "I was afraid of that, arrays are configuring now. What devices will we use this time?"
Floating cat head: "No ranger has survived Zedd's generals. Prepare the X weapons."
C3PO: "Oh my, those are designed after the drea--"
Floating cat head: Like a MAC OSX - "Ahem. ees tee ef you noob. Dee-zero wha! I am the tellings you."
As C3PO walks away he mutters "I hope no one else has ever tried to learn a language using the Internet." under his solenoid.

Else where in the world, a select few people are doing stuff unaware of danger they are in.

[d20M] Go Go Power Rangers! / Creation/Houserules & Character Sheets
« on: October 10, 2014, 02:59:51 PM »
Rule Set: Modern + Homebrew. (SRD Link)
Players: Up to 6.
PB?: 32 & per D&D.
Starting Level: 2.

Houserules

Morphing
Each Ranger will have a teamed call out they have to use to Morph and they cannot use the same one twice just to help set the mood.
Green: Must brag about being the Green Ranger. I'm awesome! Green Ranger Power!
Red: Must insult someone. Screw you! Power Ranged Red!
Blue: Must drop a fun fact in the form of a question. Did you know muffins contain tree bark? Power Ranger Blue!
Black: Must use corny slang. Frozzle my nizzle! Power Ranger Black!
Pink: Must say something that's self embarrassing. I'm a brony! Power Ranger Pink!
Yellow: Must sarcastically make fun of what they are or going to do. Yeahee I'm off to fight again. Power Ranger Yellow!

General "Called Shot" Rules
Certain ranger weapons can attack limbs, awesome! But instant kills are a real bummer so headshots only deal Critical Damage. Lost limbs prevent you from using that limb to attack or hold stuff and reduce your Speed based on the number of locomotion limbs remaining. All Called shots and Limb attacks are Precision Attacks (duh!) and are handicapped like such. See specific details in each below.

Super Gear
You'll get a power suit which instead of operating like AC boosting armor (rangers get hit a lot) it shields and protects you. It'll have it's own regenerating HP pool then when emptied leaves you demorphed but otherwise fully intact no matter how much damage the suit sustained. Additionally you get two sub weapons (sword or handgun) and one main weapon (sniper rifle or shotgun-axe). As previously noted, the gear is upgradable, you get 2 upgrade points per level (so you start with 4) and can invest however you choose.

Well... Umm... I... Crap.
Nah, Ranger Weapons are special and cannot be used with it.

Any recent changes?
They will be marked in red for a few weeks and I'll try to give a head up. Like Zord were altered a hair thanks to obtaining a new splatbook.

You Break it You Buy it / FYI: Duping Ice Assassin
« on: September 26, 2014, 01:28:16 PM »
This is kind of just an fyi for anyone looking at creating a massive XP pool to draw from.

A 20th level Wizard with 195,000XP stuffs an ice statue in his backpack and uses Lucid Dreaming to visit the Dreamheart then casts Ice Assassin creating a clone of him self taking him down to level 20 and 190,000XP.

This newly created IA is a clone of this 190kxp Wizard. It induces a negative level on it's self which results in level loss bring it to level 19 & 180,500xp. Which Planes Shifts home, wakes the original caster up, takes the unused 20,000gp in powdered diamond & the unused ice statue, and then it also uses Lucid Dreaming as a set up to avoid losing Material Components prior to casting it's own IA.

Both this IAs have 175,500xp at this point which isn't enough remaining to cast another IA. So they neg them selves down to lv18 & 161,500xp allowing them both to cast another IA using the same Lucid Dream trick. The four of them neg and cast again producing a total of eight new 17th level IAs with 144,000xp each for a finishing total of twelve, a deadly dozen. This process takes three iterations, or three constitutive 9th level Slots so depending on the original Intelligence Modifier this can be done each time the original obtains 5,000xp (1 encounter if soloing or 2 with a full party)

Orders to obey are passed down in between them and every single one of them obeys the original Spellcaster. You then kill the very first IA you made after quickly using them so in the absolute worse case scenario none of them have any desire to subvert openings in your command to kill you. And that's how 511 got their name. They are secretly created a Wizard army and sold you their duped clothing for additional profits.

For crafting and lower level Spell XP expenses and related purposes you have a collective pool of 96,000 expendable XP (excluding negs) generated off the original 5,000 spent. This mean by using IA instead of casting Wish directly you have a full 12:1 ratio to wish for things. Inherent bonuses also don't have to be cast consecutively by the same caster, only the creature has to be affected by consecutive castings, this can also be used to obtain a +5 Inherent bonus on at two ability scores with two wishes remaining.

Total breakage.

C3PO, Mr Robotnik's escaped! Recruit a team of teenagers with attitude!"

Whose up for a humorous and gory Power Ranger parody game? Possible adult themes and language. The team of teenagers are sucked up from their lives and tossed in over their heads against aliens, monsters, and Cthulhu clones as Mr Robotnick tries to take over the world.

General D&D Discussion / MMX's version of Monkday: Pokemonks!
« on: September 05, 2014, 11:27:04 PM »
Yeah, I went there. Linked from google of course and they still have Monkday threads up after all these years.

It got me thinking, well that and I recently acquired Tharo's Challenge Decks which bring new meaning so solo play in MTG, why not have like a pokemon style Monk challenge thread you can test your builds against? The idea is elite four it with the first fight being designed to match optimization by number's data and straight forward tactics.

You fight each one in a row and they get progressively harder and a wider range of listed responding tactics such as readying to trip a charger to DDing if trapped. True to the pokemon style, you face them all in a row and each one has a certain theme. Pelor knows there is enough Monk variants to support this with a little Dragon Magazine support.

If anyone has some suggestions, input, would love to kick some Monk ass, or better yet a saved version of optimize by numbers (it's down due to WotC's hijinks) feel free to reply.

Creations & Ephemera / Thunderstruck is back!
« on: June 04, 2014, 11:32:50 PM »

What is it?
A webcomic!

What's it about?
In a world where all myths are true, a paraplegic named Sharon gets electrocuted and like a miracle completely heals. Watch her come to grips with being a normal person with a chance to lose her virginity only to find out SHE FUCKING WIELDS LIGHTNING. Oh and her sister Gail is a super action girl that loves swords and then their uptight stick-up-the-rear lawful good grandmother finally reveals to them she was raped by the devil this one time she was dancing like a hooker in a mardi gra.

Vampires, witches, dwarves, con-artists and angels all fill in the backdrop that is, Thunderstruck.
P.S. Ragnarok isn't a prediction, its history.

It sounds familiar... Didn't I read this comic before?
Yep, the comic officially ended back in 2009 in the middle of things. The author claimed a couple reasons, honestly they sounded like he was sick of writing a webcomic and he wanted to write a novel. The webcomic restarted in January on a monthly update schedule. Sounds like the story will continue on and eventually conclude for us. Woot.

Ethereal Reaver (complete psionic)
One of my personal favorite weapons. The blade of this weapon counts as being on the Material and Ethereal Plane. It's one of the very few methods to attack someone on the Material Plane form the Ethereal Plane, and I believe the only such method that a "mundane" has readily access to.

Min/Max 3.x / Fun Finds the 2nd Party Edition
« on: December 21, 2013, 03:32:45 PM »
Hello and welcome to the Fun Finds thread where our research or mindless poking around in source books yields an amazingly valuable resource on it's own or combined with a few other quarks. This is the 2nd Party Edition where we expand our horizon and include other supplements. But you don't know what 2nd Party is? That's ok, I've got you covered.

What is 2nd party?
Second party material is classified as published source books that carry the official WotC seal of approval and/or noted licenser but are not published, edited, or updated by WotC.

Examples include and are not limited to
* Dragon Magazine
* Dungeon Magazine(?)
* Dragonlance Supplements beyond the Campaign Setting Book.
* Kingdoms of Kalamar and supplements.
* Birthright and supplements.

Technically speaking, Pathfinder is not 2nd party Material. Paizo's Pathfinder is it's own thing, through based by D&D's SRD.
However, for the sake of inclusion, feel free to mention your PF finds here as well.

When Posting new finds consider
That Dragon Magazine for instance contains well over hundred and fifty 3.5 magazine issues. Simply mentioning "it's from Dragon" will prompt people to ask which issue and even what the page number is (dragon tends to have very poor indexing). To solve those questions before their posted, simply include where to find your cool observation.
