It seems the newest cast member of UQ Holder likes to rest at bonfires. I approve.

It's only x2 to slotless items, and Epic WBL is pretty far up there.
And then if you get everything crafted...

Pretty far up there, yeah. But it is limited, can be surprisingly limited as well..

It is possible to craft an Epic spell that creates any magic item you want, with every effect you want as a slotless item, seeing as you can Wish for any magic item (logically, a 10th level spell would be able to do things a 9th level one couldn't).

Secondly, money isn't an issue. Gold and XP are rivers, feats are vastly more limited in quantity than either. Think about it: If you can spend 1,000,000gp (possible at 22nd level) to have 2 items that do A, F, O, Q, W, Z, and a few numbers on top for good measure, or spend 3 of your Epic feats (feasible at 27th), which would you do?

Or their simply not READING THE POST before posting.

I'm sorry for taking thirty minutes to write out a post while waiting to be summoned in Dark Souls. Care to lose the condescending attitude?

Edit: As for the monster classes and the class rebalances, most of those are structured like a Tier 4 or higher, and these feats feel like they belong in Complete Warrior beside feats like Pin Shield (niche and not likely to be used).

If you aren't going to say anything constructive. Don't say anything at all. ESPECIALLY when all your going to do is whine and moan about Quadratic Wizards and Linear Warriors.

If I gave a DAMN about Quardratic Wizards and Linear Warriors, I wouldn't made any of this feats, ever!

So, I have one last thing to say. Either start being constructive, or shut up and leave the thread

Tempestfury, I think you're taking this a little too seriously. Raineh's comments may not be the most constructive, but this forum is very lax about such things (and his apathy towards the Epic levels is justified). The simple truth is that your experiences in Epic campaigns is an irregularity, not the norm. Epic for most people on this forum is borderline unplayable.

Raineh's "opinions" are mathematically proven facts. Epic level gameplay isn't worth salvaging.

Some of your feats just aren't very good even at the pre-Epic range (and some existing Epic feats just aren't worth your time in general).

Here's my assessment:

Quote
Epic Precision Damage
Requirements: Sneak Attack, Skirmish or Sudden Strike Class Feature
Benefit: Whenever Precision Damage would be negated, you instead do half the normal amount of precision damage instead of none.
Normal: Precision damage can be fully negated.

Not worth the feat slot at Epic, considering there's ACFs and magic items that do the same pre-Epic (the Scout even has a feat that improves their Skirmish and effectively pumps their BAB).

Quote
Epic Darkstalker
Requirements: Darkstalker, Hide 24 ranks, Move Silently 24 ranks.
Benefit: When you hide, creatures with Touchsight, Mindsight, Lifesight and Arcane Sight must make a Listen check or a Spot check (whichever DC is higher) to notice you, just as sighted creatures would make Spot checks to detect you. You cannot hide in plain sight unless you have that ability as a class feature
Normal: Creatures with these senses do not need to make Spot or Listen checks to notice other creatures within range.

Barring Mindsight (which shouldn't exist to begin with; thanks WotC), this feat isn't that good. Two of those effects can be dispelled, and the third is incredibly rare (to the point that it doesn't matter). Consider that an Epic WBL allows you to purchase at will items of Mind Blank and Superior Invisibility, and then realize that this feat isn't worth it.

Quote
Epic Feature Progression
Requirements: A class feature that progresses per class level.
Benefit: Select one class feature when you take this feat. That class feature now gains a bonus to its progression equal to 1/2 of your other class levels.
Normal: Your class features scale per class level.
Special: You can take this feat multiple times, when you do, you chose a different class feature to apply this to.
Special: Spell progression and the like do not benefit from this feat.

Incredibly vague, and highly abusive due to Dragonwrought Kobold trickery. I don't recommend this one even exist.

Quote
Invocation Sage
Requirements: Able to cast dark invocations or their equivalent
Benefit: You can select two invocations from any class that has invocations and learn how to use them. Invocations from other classes must be greater invocations or lower.
Normal: You can only learn invocations from your class.
Special: You can take this feat multiple times

Not worth it, as Dark invocations barely even matter at Epic and there's not enough other Invocations to be worth using at the high levels.

Quote
Epic Iaijustu Focus
Requirements: 24 ranks in Iaijustu Focus
Benefit: You may apply your damage from Iajiustu Focus if you have drawn a weapon in the round even if the opponent is not flat-footed. If you do, the damage is halved. Additionally, Iaijutsu Focus is not capped at +9d6 damage and you may sheath your weapon(s) as a free action.
Normal: Your opponent must be flat-footed and the damage cap of Iaijustu Focus is +9d6 damage.

This really doesn't even need to be a feat, let alone an Epic one.

Quote
Hurricane of Steel
Requirements: BAB +20 with 4 attacks, Epic Attack Bonus +1
Benefit: You can take a fifth attack at a -20 penalty. Additionally, for every total of +5 your epic base attack progression grants you, you can make another attack per round, at an additional -5 penalt
Normal: You can only make four attacks per round.

Iterative attacks past the occasional 3rd iterative aren't worth tracking. All this feat enables is crit fishing.

Quote
Martial Strike Master
Requirements: Initiator Level 20+, Epic Attack Bonus +1
Benefit: When you use a strike maneuver, you may use a second attack at a -5 penalty. If you do, the strike maneuver effects both strikes, but any bonuses it applies is decreased by 2/3's.
Normal: You only attack once when using a strike maneuver
Special: At Epic Attack Bonus +5, you make choose to make a third attack at a -10 penalty, if you do, the bonuses granted by the strike maneuver is reduced by 1/2. At Epic Attack Bonus +10, you may choose to make a fourth attack at a -15 penalty, if you do, the bonuses granted by the strike maneuver is reduced by 1/2
Special: If you have two or more weapons, you can attack with off-hand weapons in addition to main-hand weapons.

I'm all for ToB support, but this feat's wording is overly-simplified and maneuvers do not scale well enough to be worth using in Epic-play even when they enable a full attack action.

Quote
Arcane Blade Mastery
Requirements: BAB +20 with 4 attacks. Caster level 20 or the equivalent.
Benefit: You may apply your casting stat as a bonus to attack and damage rolls.
Special: If you have two or more classes with a caster level 20 or the equivalent, you may apply the casting stat from each as a bonus to attack and damage rolls.

Hardly matters. Casters don't make attack rolls at post-10th level play, and they realistically don't need to roll anything at Epic-play.

Quote
Epic Weapon Finesse
Requirements: Weapon Finesse, BaB +20 with 4 attacks. 25 Dexterity
Benefit: You can now use Weapon Finesse on all weapons, if you have a shield its ACP no longer applies to attack rolls.. Additionally, weapons that can be finessed with the normal weapon finesse apply the effect as a bonus to attack rolls, instead of a replacement to strength, as well as adding their dexterity modifier as a bonus to damage.
Normal: You can only Finesse light weapons or the rapier, whip and spiked chain. A shield applies its ACP as a penalty to attack rolls, and strength is replaced by dexterity for attack rolls.

Couple of things:

  • The first effect of this feat can be obtained through the Feycraft ability in DMG2.
  • The second effect is a part of being proficient with a shield (save Tower Shields, but no one uses those as intended).
  • The first half of the third sentence can backfire if the character has a negative Strength modifier.
  • The second half of that same sentence is obtainable pre-Epic (albeit with some difficulty/restrictions). It really isn't worth that kind of a feat slot.

Quote

Perfect Combat Reflexes
Requirements:
Improved Combat Reflexes (Epic-Feat), Greater Combat Reflexes (Dragon #340), Dex 25
Benefit: Whenever you have an attack of opportunity, you may take a full-attack instead of a standard attack.

This is the only one that feels epic, and it realistically shouldn't need the Dragon Magazine feat.

Quote
Power Strike
Requirements: BaB 20+ with 4 attacks. Strength 25. Power Attack,
Benefit: Light and One-Handed Weapons are treated as two-handed weapons when wielded in one hand. One-handed weapons wielding in two hands and two-handed weapons are treated as being wielded by four-arms and damage from the power-attack feat is increase by 100%

Fairly mediocre for an Epic game, as Charger builds don't need another damage doubler (seeing as they can one-round most enemies they can hurt, and the ones they can't render noncasters completely irrelevant anyway).

I don't mind optimization, but optimizing, right of the bat, for homebrrw which is DESIGNED mainly to help less OP builds & strategies is taking it to far.

Again, a couple of things:

  • Most people on these forums recognize a reality: A majority of the encounters presented in the ELH are literally unbeatable without either powerhouse optimization or Epic Spellcasting abuse.
  • Minmax/BG is natively geared towards optimization. We embrace it and try to utilize it when dealing with out-of-context items like feats. The Monster Classes are a revision of the Savage Species idea, which means we are judging it against a pre-existing set of standards that was widely deemed underpowered. The feats you've presented are not appropriate for Epic-level play. Most of them would be decent at mid-to-high level play, but not Epic.
  • Most builds we work with on these forums completely ignore Epic gameplay as the basic principles either work (Chargers, high-end PO Spellcasters) or are rendered irrelevant by Epic material (grappler builds, pre-7th level spells outside of buffs and a rare few gems). These feats do not make enough of an impact at the Epic levels to do much in the way of helping players because a large number of them are replicable pre-Epic.

Seriously look at how much extra damage Epic Weapon Finesse is giving compared to Power Strike, from the context of a Barbarian and Rogue. At 21st level it's little more than a +10-13 bonus to damage (context assumes the Rogue was getting a +0 to damage from his Dex modifier), whereas Power Strike is upwards of +20 (this is on top of his existing +20 from Shock Trooper or Banzai Charge, and this bonus can be significantly higher).

I would never spend one of my Epic feats on EWF when Power Strike is on the table. It just isn't notable when the most basic enemy at that level has over 500hp.

« on: April 29, 2014, 11:14:27 AM »
I'm working on an ad campaign for a mini-golf course (with an African Safari theme), and could use some assistance coming up with some taglines or slogans. FWIW, the mascot is a Macaw Parrot named Rainbow and the owner wants the bird to be featured in the ad (which I'm working on with my 3D modeling skills). The slogans/taglines don't need to be something the parrot would say, but that would probably be appreciated by the owner (since this place's target audience is children and young teens).

I'm not very good at coming up with catchy lines, so any help would be appreciated.

Which excludes low(ish) Int wizards who only have one spell slot for that level due to a lack of bonus slots.

I did say "one or more" didn't I?  I definitely meant to.
I missed that... but in that case, Precocious Apprentice should be able to qualify you for "must be able to cast 2nd level spells", because you do explicitly get a 2nd level spell slot and a 2nd level spell known...

So again... the only reason PA doesn't meet that qualification is basically because the Sage/FAQ said "Because I said so".  :p Any so-called "RAW" arguments against it either fail, or exclude things that are obviously not meant to be excluded from meeting that prereq (3rd level wizards, 4th level sorcerers, etc).

Which is circumvented by Focused Specialist.

I beat Super Ornstien in NG+ today. Took almost as long as getting the Moonlight Greatsword in another profile (I missed with two attacks and it ended up taking a full hour to get that damn thing). Gonna take on Four Kings and Bed of Chaos next in the NG+, then head to Duke's Archives and tackle AToA.

Still saving up for DS2 though...

As an avid supporter of Incarnum I can say that the Incarnate and Totemist are rough around the edges, but very capable. Playing a Totemist was one of the most entertaining things I've done as a player, and my Incarnate character was highly reliable in a previous DM's campaign.
Out of curiosity, what was your Totemist?  I've had a few lying around that I've considered trotting out, but the options always end up seeming kind of limited compared to ToB or casting of some flavor.  Meaning, I felt like I'd probably get bored after a while.

The first one was a Totemist/Barbarian/Totem Rager. The second and third were pure, one focused on ranged and the other scouting. I mixed in some maneuvers on the fourth.

Custom Legacy Items are actually good for what they do, but like 90% of this system those rules favor spellcasters more than noncasters. Reducing the penalties or allowing additional options for the special abilities (or both) is really helpful.

Yeah, it looks at first glance like it would be easy to houserule in some more abilities that favored non-casters by giving them things that casters can't get any use out of or already have access to via something that is easier for a caster to get than a Legacy item. Plus, in Eberron, the first thought that came to my mind is that Legacy items might be a special thing that is only well-developed in warrior cultures with a sense of vast history - Valenar and Darguun come to mind right away. So the availability of Legacy items and the training to become a Legacy champion might favor abilities and items that boost martials and don't boost casters as much. Spellcasting of the Wizard/Cleric/etc variety could be colored as the development of the younger races like humans and gnomes, but most of the good Legacy items that exist in the setting were made during the old days of the hobgoblin empire or the elven rebellions, when magic wasn't really understood as well as modern Wizards of the Twelve or Arcanix understand it, so Legacy items were all made by warriors, for warriors.

Well, the way founding a Legacy works the Last War would have made an excellent backdrop for creating a custom one.

What scanner did you use?

A Windows one, and naturally when I switched to Malware Antibytes I found 14 different instances of malware. At least three of them were self-installing extensions on Google Chrome. Whoever used this computer before me was a fucking moron.

Someone put something on the PC I'm using at the college, and now I'm not sure I want to plug in my USB so I can get some class work done because whatever it is seems really aggressive. I DL'ed a scanner to check for it, but no luck (worse, the scanner seems to have been deleted post-scan as I can't find it anywhere in the (C:)).

From the Dungeon crasher archetype in dungeonscape:

At 6th level, the bonuses from dealing with traps increases to +4, and the bonus to strength  checks to break objects increases to +10. The damage you deal when bull-rushing an opponent into a wall increases to 8d6 points + three times your strength bonus.

So the extra damage from the 6th level of dungeoncrasher only work when bull-rushing into walls specifically, so no to getting creative with what to bull-rush someone into.  :P

The 2nd level bonus would still work though..

Ring of the Forcewall. Solves every lack-of-wall problem you'll ever have.
