Jerry led a very normal life in the area of Seattle. His childhood was perfectly normal and fine up until age 10, when he Awakened. His Awakening happened unexpectedly, sending surges of energy and magic about. His world transformed into something else entirely. Jerry started to see wires, strings, cords in every object around him. Curiosity got the best of him as he touched the strings, and pulled at them. What was once a rigid closet turned partially into a sticky and wet, glue-like substance. Startled, Jerry pulled back as the effect reverted, the closet whole again once more.
After a moment of trying to understand what happened, Jerry's mother and father came running down the stairs, having felt the surge of magic coming from their son. 'What happened?!', barked the father. 'I think he Awoke... he is one of us now...' spoke the mother softly, with a slight look of fear and realization in her eyes.
The surge of magic alerted Technocrats that happened to be in the area though, as Jerry also did not know that his parents too, were Mages in hiding from the Technocracy. What he also did not know is that they were Void Walkers: An enigmatic Cabal with the philosophical belief that the universe was made from the black chasm called The Void, and The Void being created by the absence of the very gods that create the very concepts of life, death, and beyond. The Void is, according to the Void Walkers beliefs, so undeniably powerful that even in the absence of the gods, the universe was created. It is what gives the universe its push and pull, its laws including paradox and magic, and it is what forges the ultimate destiny and fate of the universe. That which the universe creates is therefore by definition incidental, such as human life and whatever else may happen on other planets beyond humanity's reach.
They had to escape. And in their escape, sweat pouring from their brows, something went horribly wrong. Jerry remembers being on his father's back as his father and mother ran down a long alleyway. They stopped abruptly, as Jerry looked over the shoulder of his father to see men running towards them. From behind, more men came their way. Jerry's father, Jonathan, put him down as he faced the men. His mother faced the other way as they both appeared to be casting magic. It was something that Jerry had never seen them do. Some of the men had rifles as they began to shoot at them, only for the bullets to stop in mid-air and literally melt in front of Jonathan and his wife, Elisa. Jerry was panicking because of the action, unsure where to go or how to react. The battle went on for a few minutes, with some men dying, but eventually Jerry witnessed a puff of smoke from one of the rifles as his father was shot in his heart. He fell down, clutching his chest, groaning in agony before becoming completely silent. The men overpowered Elisa, grabbing her by her hair, her beautiful long black hair. Pointing a gun to the back of her head, they shot, killing her mercilessly.
Jerry was in utter shock, unable to comprehend it all due to the action and the sudden loss of his parents, with blood and corpses everywhere, brains splattered on the ground. There were about a total of 8 men left now after the skirmish. The men then reached down for Jerry as he tried to fight back, but as a ten year old, there was little resistance. Before they could snatch him however, an agonizing scream came from one of the men behind the others. The men looked back to see their comrade fall to the ground with a hole in his chest; a man with a pure black mask and pure black cape and dark clothing approached. Before the men could reload, they all fell one by one to the mysterious man in black who was killing them with his bare fists enraptured in a form of light. He was stunningly fast, as he broke arms and made their faces bloody with ease. When he struck the first man down however, the light was gone. What Jerry later understood, was that his savior used Prime magic to empower his hands and to focus on the most dangerous individuals first before taking down the others.
But just as one man was left standing, he grabbed Jerry and pointed a gun to his head, spouting threats for the man in black to back off. The man in black slowly hunched over, as time seemed to pass very slowly.
Suddenly, his hands were alight again, and just as the man who held Jerry panicked, wanting to pull the trigger, the man in black sprinted and dashed forth amazingly fast, hitting the man square in the face, nearly twisting it as the man's jaw was completely shattered, blood and saliva spraying from his mouth before landing with a loud, lifeless thud on the ground.
It was too much for Jerry. Jerry fainted from too much shock and sudden information overflowing his brain. When he awoke, he was in a different place entirely, in a bed. The man with the mask stared at him before removing his cap and his mask, revealing a stern face with curious eyes. This man was also one of the Void Walkers, just like Jerry's parents were. He introduced himself to Jerry as Peter Quinn, though he told Jerry that he has held other names before and that Peter was simply his most recent one.
Under his guardian's tutelage, he started to learn magic, and most importantly learned to fend for himself. Peter taught him a few years of martial arts, including one that Jerry never even heard of before. He was taught a bit of Muay Thai, Tai Chi, and Kung Fu. He told Jerry that by the time he would hit 18, he would move Jerry out of his home. He gave Jerry a harsh upbringing, but it was one that Jerry benefited from. He was not severing ties with Jerry, he was simply teaching him to become more self-sufficient. They are still in contact with one another once in a while, on relatively good terms. By recommendation of Peter, Jerry was suggested to move out of America for a short while, which landed Jerry in an area of France called Bordeaux. Jerry lived there for four years, working at a tavern to earn his daily income. Just like his late parents and his guardian, now he too is a part of this secret Cabal, instructed to deny its existence and their philosophies, as it is also not common that the Void Walkers meet. Before leaving for France however, Peter gave Jerry his own outfit in the event he needed to use it to hide his own identity. He may find himself in a brand new Cabal sometime soon as well...
He does his best to make friends, and in spite of his run-in with the Technocrats, he has a surprisingly friendly personality. However, that demeanor quickly disappears if Jerry has a good chance to duke it out against a Technocrat.
The cycle of life is mysterious. Jerry questioned everything he came across. Why does it hurt when you wound yourself? What are the true properties of blood? What creates the darkness of space? What is the origin of time? Why do we age and die, rather than stay in existence forever? What is it that is constituted as life and what creates it? Jerry could not answer any of these questions until he Awoke. From that moment on, he had a simple answer for all of these.
He calls them Cords of the Void. Everything is made by these powerful cords. Living things are created and live by specific types of cords, similarly how Time and Matter have their own specific cords as well. According to his understanding of the cycle of life, anyone can influence the environment, even the Sleepers. A wound caused by a knife tears specific cords, and thus creates a wound.
Because of the cycle of life, and time ticking onward, this wound may heal but leave behind a scar. According to Jerry's understanding, the Cords of Life simply re-attach to themselves, mending the wound over time. Just as the wound would leave a scar, the cords would show signs of previous damage. Upon better understanding of these cords, the Mage may manipulate the Sphere of choice (in this case Life), and cast a Vulgar Life spell to fully heal the wound with no scar remaining. Through further understanding of these cords / strings for each specific Sphere, Jerry will learn and understand the universe around him, and thus develop and learn more powerful and potent magic.
Jerry's actual method of manipulating these cords / strings is through specific types of dances and movements. Only through these specific movements can he manipulate the spheres and his universe around him. This is due to the fact that his life force, or "chi" is manipulated in a shape in such a way that he can attempt to manipulate the strings. Different dances and movements go for different types of strings (And thus the Spheres. For example: variations of Tai Chi for the Life Sphere, something else for the Matter sphere).
Feel free to let me know what needs cutting or removing, or if I made any mistakes. I'll have any errors sorted right away provided there are any. Also let me know if I need to clarify anything about my profile, such as my paradigm.
Also I apologize about the lack of tables, I've had horrible difficulty trying to get them in to no avail. Tried pasting from OpenOffice, Word, using the provided code, can't get it to work. So sorry about that =/
EDIT: I would also like to know if it is possible that my character can, when he has any free time, create valuable objects through Matter 2 or 3. This is actually just for the purpose of income in the event he leaves France. Don't want him to be broke since a man's got to eat after all!
