8.7 million dollars when all the devs wanted was 10,000.  Over 200k people who bought the NSFW deck.  Probably going to be quite interesting.

Know what sucks though?

There's no way to legitimately spend almost 9 million dollars developing that game.
Those guys totally banked on that shit all hardcore like.

That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen... How the hell could this get 9 million in funding? I've been kicking around a kickstarter idea myself, which is a lot more interesting and beneficial to mankind than this BS... (medical drones for use in remote and/or dense urban areas) I guess it's time to get it going.

I think the fact that the guy behind The Oatmeal was a part of the game had a huge amount to do with it.

Edit: Games also tend to be the biggest draws since people get cool tangible rewards.

Would having a Dr. drone give you an in-home visit be a decent reward? (Let's call this marketing research :p)

No, but then again I'm probably not your target audience.  I go to the doctor once every couple of years and I've had to argue with doctors before because i know my body so I wouldn't trust a drone to get it right.  :p

It's a reward though, so that's something.   :P

There are people that will give because an idea is cool or out of the goodness of their hearts or because the project is for something they're genuinely interested in.  My backer history informs me that i"m not one of those people.

Edit again: Except for Reading Rainbow, they got my money just because.

It would be an actual doctor (or med student) communicating through the drone, and using instruments on the drone to help out (checking pulses, etc).

Hmm...

Part of me says it would be a good idea; the rest of me says that it would probably run into so much resistance in the US.

I mean, it might work in Europe, since they are less militantly protective of their privacy, but that's neither here nor there.

(Africa would benefit from it the most, since you wouldn't have to worry about their lack of ground infrastructure when performing your rounds.)

I'm... slightly offended. That was 8.7 million dollars that could have been spread around a lot more evenly.

To be fair that was over two-hundred thousand people pledging $35.  If you can manage to find a cause that will garner that kind of support they would get that kind of money.

I can't argue with him as effectively if it isn't in person.   :P
