Background:

Acacius is a young man who for most of his life preferred reading books to running around outside. He was raised by merchants and had a privileged upbringing. Because of this, his parents could afford to buy their only child as many books as his appetite demanded. However, one day, while in one of his parent's wagons traveling with them (most of his life was spent on the road), his caravan was ambushed by thieves. Acacius was knocked unconscious pretty early in the battle, which probably explains why he wasn't enslaved like the other survivors. There was one group of survivors that weren't taken. The young children were of no use to slaves. They were left to die. Acacius knew his parents weren't enslaved because he found their blood-soaked bodies in the aftermath of the battle. They had died defending the caravan. While Acacius was a little older than the other children, they all probably would have died had it not been for the guidance of someone who showed up on the scene. Vian managed not only to cheer up Acacius over the next several months, but also helped him learn how to survive in the wilderness. Acacius gave Vian the one useful thing he inherited from his parents; a horse. It alone had not been stolen by the thieves because it was lame at the time, having been injured in the battle. Shortly after Vian left another boy in charge of the orphans, Acacius left on a quest. Everywhere he went he carried with him two locks of hair, one from each of his parents. He had read in books how clerics could resurrect the dead if provided a small portion of the corpse, and he searched city after city looking for powerful clerics. But most clerics were too weak for such miracles, and the ones who could do it were too busy with higher matters or charged more than Acacius could possibly imagine. He hated the priests and their gods. If only he could get some of their power for himself. He was not willing to worship gods who were so sparse in their compassion. It was at this time that Acacius read of a class of individual known as the archivist. Spurned by most of society because of the fear most clerics had for them, they studied divine magic like a science and used the power of the gods without their permission. This was the answer to Acacius's problem. He would become an archivist.

Acacius has spent the last several months trying to penetrate the mysteries of the wilderness around the Greenbelt, hoping to expand his knowledge and archive. Or at least, that's what he tells himself. But there are many parts of Golarion full of mysteries. Lurking in his subconscious is a hatred he has always tried to ignore. Perhaps he wants vengeance on the thieves who murdered his parents... But violence is not in Acacius personality by nature, so these thoughts always make him uncomfortable.

By pure coincidence, he happened to seek rest at Oleg's Trading Post just when the party of our story were about to set off on their adventure...
