Game Design / D20 card game?
« on: October 06, 2014, 01:46:49 PM »
I don't have very many ideas, but am intrigued by the idea. I'm seeing a stripped down d20srd ruleset that plays like Magic the Gathering.

The few ideas I have: I see a duel with player against player. The PC card comes with the skills chosen, and the levels ups are in the deck as in pokemon. Familiars and Cohorts are also in the deck, and also level up. Spell book is another deck, as is equipment. A player creates his deck before hand with a limited number of cards.

The player then attempts to build trees in front oh them self (character, Cohort, Summons, etc), while attacking the opponent.

Sounds sprawling, but what dnd isn't?

More drivel. I'd be surprised if anyone even responds.

Well, I was just playing with how early Ur-Priest can be entered. There is a feat I saw, that I can't find now. The feat makes all Int skills level +5 for max rank. I wonder if that could be used to enter Ur-Priest early.

There is, of course, Iron Will from the Otyugh Hole. So, I think UrP can be entered at 4th level. (and a question, is Urp 10 worth shooting for? or is the DR divine too limited, and the wait for "steal SLA" too long?)

There are several classes that give high Fort and Will, but which is best? Savage Bard seems standard. 3rd level: BaB2, 2-0-2 saves, and all the skills...

I don't really know how/if SC goes later, just playin' around with that. Urp first.... Maybe some suggestions for upper levels?

Min/Max 3.x / Shortest way to max Int for a skill Factotum?
« on: December 30, 2013, 12:18:17 AM »
I am sure that if i tried to look this up i would miss something, and that someone here has done it before.... I am playing with an idea, might not use it, but will bookmark it.

For one i hear diplomacy is broken: any words on that? UMD of course, and intimidate. Any other skills that are just broken? Yes, I've read the Handbook

Human, and probably rogue for 1st

My (stupid) questions are: I can get 5(max?) Int from Wish, right? Is it somehow wrong to take them one at a time as soon as i can afford them?

Any other ways to increase Int (besides level increases) that would affect my skill point gains (IIRC items won't?)

Not looking for anything fancy, but am open to other advice..... Thanks in advance.

Min/Max 3.x / Help me optimize my spiked chain Duskblade??
« on: December 04, 2013, 11:35:01 PM »
Human
Martial Rogue2/Fighter2/Duskblade4

Now there are only three of us: a straight fighter two handed power attack max str kid, the DM's standard healbot cleric npc, and myself. Real informal (we know little about high level spellcasters), but i can see if we played more we could get deeper into it. (two of us have decades of experience). Anyway, i picked the Duskblade because it was one of the easiest casters, and etc, but i wanted to show the fighter some proper feat chain stuff, as he wanders around with them and takes endless feat heavy nowhere feat chains.

This might seem a bit generic/lame, but it is plenty optimized for these folks. Still, i don't want to get behind if the DM starts to up the ante. Anyway, any help is appreciated.

I am not against a dip, but really don't want to make things too complicated. Duskblade16 is ok too.

Nice feat heavy option, with picks from just three common sources/ideas. Loses only 1 bab. It's a bit MAD, so 32 point buy, i guess. 16, 14, 14, 12, 14, 8  lvl bonus to str. The campaign is already at 4th lvl but my DM would let me change those i bet.

7Fighter 2 (4thlvl)deft opportunist+4 to all AoO. check

1115th lvl (duskblade11)open featVERY FEW IDEAS/ TRAVEL DEVOTION?
12  18th lvl (duskblade14)  open featAND PROBABLY NEVER PLAY PAST 10TH lvl

Well besides some feat critique/edit, i would like some magic item help.
The Chain: or course elongate (enlarge person is on DB list), and what else? Something simple?

D260 Ioun stone, orange prism +1 to caster level 30,000: What do you think?
D260 Ioun stone, pearly white spindle Regenerate 1 point of damage per hour 20,000: This would take pressure off whatever other heal option? or redundant?
D260 Ioun stone, pale green prism +1 on attack rolls, saves, skill checks, and ability checks 30,000: These seem expensive, but they are the kinds of things I'm interested in. (help?)
M121 Ring of arcane might +1 to arcane caster level 20,000: Seems like a no brainer?

Oh well, I'm tired, it's late. I'll think better tomorrow.

Min/Max 3.x / Need advice on an choosing a 2-6 level character
« on: August 17, 2013, 12:18:08 AM »
Playing a game with my 12year son old barbarian half orc, and my 21year old son DM/healbot npc, and a rouge human. The party is not at all optimized, but I would like to open their eyes some (without breaking the game).

I usually play either a rouge skillbot, or a cleric. So since those are filled i thought I'd experiment. I was thinking a spellcaster, since the cleric is a healer npc and all, but.....

I don't want to play something that just starts coming together at 7th level. Nor do i want it to be TOO difficult to play or explain, etc. Kinda simple.

I was thinking duskblade or bard or etc. Ideas?

I like duskblade because: isn't there a spiked chain thing that can be done fast? Improve trip and what?

I'm so open to ideas.....martial rogue1,/duskblade 5? .....R1/DB1/R1/DB3? (tons of feats?)

Bard/Duskblade?(max UMD and lots of spells per day?)

I am so open to ideas.

Min/Max 3.x / need advice invalid genius npc carl sagan?
« on: April 05, 2013, 09:47:51 PM »
i was just wondering about an npc who had the most outrageous Int score. Willing to accept any handicaps to make the story line. The guy gets carried around in a litter and works for a king as a judge or diviner, then gets swept into the campaign...
Of course there are prereqs to many things, and that's one of the things i could use quick help with.

My hope was to max caster levels also, if there are ways to do so.

Anyway....32 point buy.

Str  6
Dex 6
Con 10
Int   25   of course there is a race bonus to consider, and a possible age bonus thing..
Wis 10
Cha 8

That sort of silliness. Now before i work too hard, usually you guys tell me someone has thought of it. Any ideas? It's ok if the guy is over specialized, but he should have some fun attacks or theme....

Introduce Yourself / welcome back

Hey you. I used to post on the old boards and some of you might recognize me.

I am always asking questions that have "obviously not" in the answer.
