The Hyrulian Isles

The Kingdom of Hyrule, ruled by the Hylian Royal Family, the most famous of which being Princess Griselda, controls a large area in the northwest of the Elibe continent, but was born in the Hyrulian Isles, a mass of twelve islands just off the northwestern shore of Elibe. Protected by a natural water defense, Hyrule was able to fight off many invaders and usurpers, maintaining a strong naval presence to this day. Though most of Elibe is populated by humans, the Hyrulian Isles are home to many exotic species, including a few intelligent humanoid races, such as the Elves, the stone-like Goron, and the aquatic Zora. The Elves of Hyrule are not kin to the elfin race native to the Kremellan Warp Zone, but the similarities between the two races and between the westernmost Hyrulian Isle, named Outset Isle, and the Warp Zone have been noted. Scholars theorize that a shifting of the planet's innards tore the continents asunder untold ages ago and that Outset Isle and Warp Zone were once part of the same land. It is possibly for this reason that the Hyrulian Isles are so rich with strange creatures.

The Kokiri Forest that stretches across many of the central Hyrulian Isles, is the home of the Elves, long since conquered by the Hyrulian Armies; their nation-state a commonwealth subsidiary of the Kingdom of Hyrule. Within the Kokiri Forest live many dangerous creatures, sometimes similar to those of Warp Zone or even the Mushroom Kingdom. Kakariko Island, a sunbathed island of rolling green hillside, once the stronghold of the former Elven nation, has become a booming center of trade and the location of Hyrule Castle. The younger Elves, too young to remember the war with Hyrule, flock to Kakariko and mingle happily with other Hyrulian citizens, but the older generation tend to stay under the shady canopy of Kokiri.

The Kingdom of Hyrule left many Elven structures intact, partly out of respect for their culture, but mainly in fear of the ancient magics sealed within. As such, several temples lie scattered about the Hyrulian Isles, rumored to be filled with treasures and deadly monsters. Few of these places are open for public viewing, in fact, access to most is forbidden to Elves and many are guarded by Hyrulian Soldiers. In one such temple, sheathed in an anvil of stone, rests the Goddess Sword, rumored to be the bane of all evil and an instrument of vast magical powers, the sword cannot be freed. It is said that an ancient Goddess of the Elves sealed herself into the sword after suffering mortal wounds in a war of the gods, and that her spirit awaits the coming of a Hero to which she will grant the ability to draw the sword from the stone and gift with divine power.

Planet Earth

The history of Earth is a mysterious one, made rich with the various myths and legends surrounding the evolution of creatures named Pokemon and the emergence of psychic power. The world is populated by humans and Pokemon, animals and monsters of various types, these strange beings possess an array of elemental and magical powers, vastly divergent biologies and ecosystems, and a wide range of intellect - some Pokemon are demonstrably more intelligent than human beings. Throughout history mankind and Pokemon have maintained a shaky relationship, at times helping one another to survive, at times warring bitterly with each other over basic resources. Most Pokemon have a neutral stance toward humanity, but some species are uncommonly helpful or hateful toward the human race. If it were not for the development of the human mind and the psionic power that humans were able to tap, they might have been brought to extinction by the more aggressive and intelligent Pokemon. As it stands, there is a constant war between human military forces and legions of wrathful Pokemon that have grown to despise humanity, such as hives of Beedril or covens of Dratini (including Weedle, Kakuna, Dragonair, and Dragonite).

The world is a wild and dangerous place. Major cities are kept safe only by the constant guard of military forces, while frontier towns are maintained only by grizzled farmers, fishermen, and hunters. Interstate travel is policed by soldiers and helicopter watch, while dirt roads are a baneful hazard, wrought with Pokemon of any imaginable types, only trod upon by the brave or the foolish. The countryside is claimed by the Pokemon themselves, and those that dare to step off any beaten path have entered no man's land. The Air Force keeps a constant watch on the skies above cities and even occasionally are sent to firebomb wild areas of the world where it is feared that dangerous, intelligent Pokemon have gathered. As a side-effect, there is next to no hatred between humans of different colors or creeds. The human race is united in its stand to defend itself against the danger of Pokemon.

This is not to say that all Pokemon are savage beasts that would tear a man's throat out soon as look at him, but many are simple-minded and in their fear of humanity can cause tremendous collateral damage. Others are intelligent, but hate humans, but there are those that seek to improve humanity's lot in life. Many psychic Pokemon flock to human civilization in the effort of making contact with other sentient and psionic life. Alakazams in particular, accompanied by flocks of Abra and Kadabra, have taken a unique interest in assisting human life, trying, often failing, to advance our society and teach us new disciplines. Their highly advanced intellect makes them capable tutors even if our own minds sometimes limit our comprehension of their teachings.

Psychic power had been a relatively rare, but wondrous boon to human culture for most of human history, offering us fantastical new powers - many of which could not be duplicated by Pokemon. However, not long ago, a mysterious meteorite struck the planet, devastating Mt. Moon. This event happened concurrently with a world-wide awakening of millions of human individuals to psionic power who never had it before. The public was instantly blocked from access to the site, media has only been able to cover the phenomena in an ancillary capacity, and martial law has been imposed utterly on the surrounding area. Rumors, that seemed ridiculous at first, have begun to gain traction that the meteor is somehow linked to an alien attack from outer space.

The Kremellan Continent

So the Mushroom Kingdom, realm of the Myconid, is ruled over by humans, King Marsilio and Queen Picioritte. Though humans are a common sight in the Mushroom Kingdom, observers of the King often note that he seems peculiarly out of place. He is quite unlike any humans found elsewhere within the kingdom - even on the planet. King Marsilio's brother Lugiori, equally odd, serves in an advisory capacity and as the Royal Guardsman. He often is under orders to accompany Princess Pauline, daughter to the King and Queen, wherever she goes.

The Mushroom Kingdom itself has laid claim over nearly all of the northern territory on the great Kremellan continent, but to the west, beyond the vastness of the Mushroom Forest, lies the strange Warp Zone inhabited by fairies and a territorial elfin race. It is said that the Warp Zone has been touched by the Land of Dream and that passing from one realm to the other is quite easy, to the point of being often accidental. To the south of the Mushroom Kingdom lies Sarassaland, ruled by the unwed Princess Dayisi. It is relatively common knowledge that Lugiori spends much of his free time in her company.

The Land of Dream is a parallel plane, much like the Astral Drift or the Ethereal Sea, and home to many strange, nightmarish, and wondrous creatures. It is ruled by the Tyrant-King Dedede, a lumbering beast most vile, and though his servants are many and bring fear and destruction in their wake, brave denizens of the Land of Dream have taken up arms in rebellion. The paragon and rallying force at the forefront of such revolutionary efforts is an extraplanar shapeshifter by the name of Kybrin.

Kremella is an enormous continent, encompassing a large number of different terrains and ecosystems. The cities of the Mushroom Kingdom and of Sarassaland carve out miles and miles of the countryside, and yet untouched Deserts, Forests, Mountains, and Plains stretch for as far as the eye can see. Much of Sarassaland is desertified, dotted with oases and swathes of savannah, but across a wide portion of the south eastern border of Kremella lies the huge Rainbow Forest filled with lush vegetation, vibrant color, and deadly predators.

God of the Dead

There are gold coins in the world, and then there are Momento Mori coins, also gold, but ancient, with a strong aura of Necromancy, and when you die, if you possess 100 or more Momento Mori you can buy your resurrection from the God of the Dead in exchange for 100 Momento Mori. As long as he's not pissed off at you for some reason, he's happy to oblige. You see, each coin that the God of the Dead acquires grants him the tiniest portion of his former power. In a long-forgotten age, in a conflict between the gods, he lost an untold wealth of these coins, in each of which he keeps a single soul among the innumerable souls he has collected from across the multiverse throughout time.

Momento Mori coins are never available for buying in the open markets. Anyone foolish enough to sell them will find the merchants quickly redirect them to the local powers-in-charge in return for protection and the ability to conduct other business as they see fit. Most shops are thus protected by mighty wards, ancient magic contracts and hidden guardians, to the point many speculate you would have an easier time storming the local king's castle than any decent-sized shop. It's all but  unheard off for heroes to trade their hardly-earned Momento Mori coins for special favors and unique artifacts.

Each player starts with 100 Momento Mori coins.

Starting Background-Ocean Pirates

Pirates of diferent races and factions have been a somewhat common sight in the seas ever since naval commerce started to bloom, but recently they've grown from an ocasional nuissance to a quite dangerous threat. Whereas before the pirates were divided and disorganized, each ship with its own leader and more often than not fighting between each other, recently there seems to be a brutal cunning pattern to their actions. Ambushes, diversionary maneuvers, lighting-fast raids to specially valuable targets, even the mighty Hyrulian navy has suffered several losses against the pirates by now, and countless coastal locations have been plundered. Some reports also state that the pirates also seem to have developed a particular taste for the ancient temples scattered across the Hryulian islands, drawing out or fighting past its guards to reach the valuable treasures and relics inside before disapearing back into the sea. Other times the temple's own guardians and traps prove too much and the pirates retreat empty-handed, if they can retreat at all, but still a new raid will surely be launched against another nearby location.

To make matters worst, those pirate ships are many time carrying all kinds of beasts and monsters, mundane and exotic to suport their pillaging sailors. Sometimes even young chromatic dragons reveal themselves from their decks to strafe enemy ships and coastal defenses. The pirates are clearly being supplied  with training, intellegence and resources, plus a strong leadership pointing their moves, but who nobody knows from where. Whatever prisioners were taken didn't know more than they needed to, or killed themselves in gruesome ways to make interrogation impossible, even with Speak with Dead. That doesn't stop rumors from spreading, from a "Pirate Queen" from eastern Elibe continent to a "General of Darkness" came from another dimension.

Daltus III the current Hyrulian King has called for the help of the land heroes to fight off the menace. The Hyrulian army has steped up its recruiting propaganda, promising more benefits than ever for those willing to join them.

The pirates however also seem to be seeking new members, warmly embracing any oponents who surrender and turn to their side, and clearly making an effort to take as much prisioners as possible, shiping them off in their vessels to unknown locations. Rumors of distinguished Hyrulian officers reported captured showing up some weeks later fighting for the pirates have been dismissed by Daltus III as "unconfirmed".

Meanwhile some of the local populations seem to be perfectly happy for the pirates and the king's soldiers to kill each other, and then they swooping in to take control of their own destiny. At least so far Mercay, Bannon and Zauz's island have declared independence or at least cut off all official communications. If this are the older elves rebeling again, or some lurking evil taking advantage of the current chaos to spread, is anyone's guess.

You find yourself nows in Molida's Island, a relatively "normal" Hyrulian island. A medium-sized coastal town with golden beaches, lush forests with all manner of creatures and housing the local elf community, and a set of ancient ruins closer to the center of the island. Reports have come in of a pirate ship aproaching. The guard's Captain have called a meeting in the main Hall and is trying to rally defenders. Yet even as he speaks you can hear the rumors around you. How perhaps it would be better to try to talk out of this situation. How it may perhaps be better to join the pirates. How most of the guards usually stationed on the ruins have been called to face the pirates, and there's now an unique chance to explore them, to find the rumored treasures inside they've heard all their lifes. For whatever reasons you have, you're among this crowd. You clearly stand out to each other between all the common citizens, and now you must decide what to do.

Pokemon Gyms and League

Since the dawns of History on Earth humans have captured and trained pokemons and used them to perform all sorts of tasks. Not only as living weapons of war, but also as tools of construction, medicine developers, food and raw material sources and countless other jobs that form several of the foundations of the civilization of Earth (the other ones consisting on the imaginative and powerful mind of humans). Some scholars theorize that every human has a latent psychic ability to enforce their will on others, which would explain how even young kids can enforce ancient beasts of wondrous power to do their bidding with enough training.

Thus, it's no suprise that a full culture has developed around the art of capturing and training pokemon. Groups of people that band togheter to practise and develop that art are known as Gyms. Each Gym usually has its own philosophies of how to best capture and train pokemon, many times specializing on a certain kind. Each Gym also has a leader, its strongest member that takes the role of main teacher and administrator. The smallest Gyms may be just a couple of a Master and Aprentice in some backwater village, while the biggest ones have dozens if not hundreds of members and luxurious installations in the peaks of mountains or the center of big cities. Gyms make a living out of providing specialized pokemon services, like Celadon City Grass Gym that produces all manner of beauty products, perfume, medicine, and if you are standing in good relationship with them, all manner of poisons. Or Saffron City Psychic Gym that makes great developments on the field of psionics, both human and pokemon. Or they may simply protect the local village of wild pokemon and hunt food. Either way, they usually get some kind of financial suport from the local government, including installations where to conduct their activities.

As the fastest way of making pokemon grow stronger and unlock new abilities is to make them fight, there's been implemented the Pokemon League as an incentive to make pokemon trainers fight each other. First one needs to defeat eight tier of Gyms, then to challenge the mighty Elite Four. With each tier defeated, the trainer receives a special badge that is both a sign of prestige and social status, and also offers acess to several special services and advantages. Trainers with several badges can outright ignore most laws, but if there's one unbreakable rule, it's that killing in the Pokemon League is strictly forbidden. All Pokemon Trainers are expected to know how to disable enemies whitout taking their lifes, and dead pokemons aren't good to anyone. Usually trainers themselves don't participate in the duel, altough that rule has been bended or outright ignored from time to time.

Defeated trainers are still expected to offer some kind of material reward to the winner. If they fail to do so, it's socially and politically acepted to take compensation.
(click to show/hide)
Speaking of money, the government offers free, global healthcare to trainers and their pokemon in the form of pokemon centers, so they aren't afraid of risking their hide. If you find a trainer that got unlucky against wild pokemon but was left alive, you'll receive a nice cash reward for carrying them to the nearest pokemon center. Said reward is usually taken at the saved trainer's expenses.

Generally in any given region there will be eight Gyms directly sanctioned by the Pokemon League, each awarding a Badge tier. Even relatively weaker Gyms may give out badges, but no more than one sanctioned Gym badge will be found in any city/village. If there's more than one Gym, they compete in battle and the strongest one receives the right to give badges. Shame to the Gym that has to live under another Gym's shadow, even if they're tecnically stronger than a Gym in another city of the region. Either way, each Badge tier is linked to a progressively stronger power level, so that traveling trainers are expected to go trough a certain route, facing the Gyms in a particular order as they grow in power, and learning valuables experiences from each one. Sometimes they may spend years in each one before they can progress to the next, but the best trainers quickly learn everything a gym has to teach in a matter of weeks or even just some days.

Any trainer can try to challenge a gym, which involves first dueling trough the lower ranked members all the way to the Gym Leader. More exotic Gyms may include obstacles and puzzles along the way. Defeating the Gym Leader grants the badge, but doesn't exactly allow one to take his /her position. Again, being Gym Leader is not only about battling, but also about properly mentoring new trainers and developing and improving non-battle pokemon skills. Plus since each Gym is specialized in a certain style, one can always be cheap and bring pokemons to directly counter it. Either way, to replace a Gym leader one must show they can do a better job in all fields, which is usually a long and slow process to win the hearts and mind of the Gym members and other people connected to it.

Once all 8 badges of a region are gathered, one can challenge the Elite Four! This top group in the pokemon world is formed by previous Gym leaders that have proven their worth and valor beyond any doubt. They don't take disciples, at least not permanent ones, but may provide valuable lessons to trainers that took all 8 badges and then managed to personally impress them. The Elite Four divide their time between further developing their own training styles, settling disuptes between Gyms, and, when things get dire, taking themselves to the battlefield to save the day.

To reach the Elite Four, one usually needs to fight trough the other veteran pokemon trainers that gather nearby, eager for a chance to prove their worth and improve their skill. If one can fight past them, then they can ask for the ultimate sanctioned challenge, fighting the Elite Four members in a row with just a set of pokemon and brief pauses between each duel! If one wins, they're crowned Pokemon Champions and their names engraved in a special Hall of Fame. The title brings great popularity, chicks/boys depending on the trainer's preferences, offers for high-ranking jobs, but again, not a possibility of actually joining the Elite Four. That is reserved for veteran Gym Leaders that have not only proven combat prowess, but also a great understanding on how to properly train pokemons. Regardless, Pokemon Champions are still the stuff of legends, going then to take on new challenges, traveling to remote and mysterious regions to capture rare and elusive pokemons while saving the world.

Recently, between new advances on technology, psionics and the study of interdimensional gates, Gyms and the League have been expanding to other worlds. Altough for now its presence outside Earth is minimal at best, noticed as just a curiosity by the governments of those other worlds. But still enough to start atracting trainers of those new regions.

Team Rocket

Government on Earth tries to show Humanity as an unified group, free of petty wars and squables inside the species, unified against the common threat of wild, rampaging pokemon. That's not necessarily true. Team Axe. Team Aqua. Team Magma. Team Galaxy. Team Chaos. It has been known by many names trough the ages, but they share the same basis: groups of trainers that would use the power of pokemon for terror and domination over their own brethern. If you feel wronged by society, if you're desesperate for quick money, if nobody else will help you, or if you just want to see the world burn, then Team Rocket has a place for you.

(click to show/hide)

Now the government usually dismisses Team Rocket as an unorganized group of loonies whose members could spend years stalking a newbie trainer kid and still fail to take even one of their pokemons. And it is indeed true that Team Rocket has pretty low recruiting standards and will basically take anyone who can throw a pokeball and order a pokemon around. But don't let yourself be fooled by its bottom members. Team Rocket is in truth an highly organized and very dangerous group. Even if it's true most of their members don't even carry weapons, a pokemon is much easier to carry past trough checkpoints, and just as deadly in the right hands. Team Rocket knows it has no chance in a direct fight against the military and Pokemon Gyms, so they usually act from the shadows and hidden bases, building up their power before striking. Their members are renowed for specializing in smaller, less flashy and/or poisonous pokemons that can get the job done with minimal ruckus.

If there's laws against it, then you can bet Team Rocket is looking for a way to exploit it trough pokemons. Death matches betting rings, highly addicting drugs extracted from pokemons, rare specimens kidnaping and trading, assassinations, secret technology steals, and even whole cities taken over for their raw materials, you can bet Team Rocket has an hand on it. Some aparently natural disasters are even blamed in Team Rocket employing more powerful pokemons. And more than one highly proeminent Gym Leader and politician has been revealed to be a Team Rocket member, advancing their agenda.

(click to show/hide)

Team Rocket usually acts on independent cells, each with its own goals, many times taking other names depending on their purpose, but they answer all to a specific leader, which usually hides in the shadows and coordinates the cells as he sees fit. Even when aparently defeated, they usually simply go into hiding for years as they rebuild their strenght. Even if taken out of the picture somehow, they just open the path for a new talented leader. Even the Elite Four had to be called to deal with Team Rocket in certain ocasions. For this criminal group, the ends always justifies the means, and their ultimate end is power over everything they see.

With the recent advances on reaching other planes from Earth, Team Rocket has extended its cluthes to the new lands as well, seeking new exotic creatures to capture and exploit. Rumors are that they are extending their recruitment programs to those new areas.

Races of Hyrule

Wood Children

Elves, Deku Scrubs, Kokiri, and several other kinds of feys and animated plants habit the kokiri forests since there's recorded history. Their oldest legends talk about they all being creations from the Great Deku Tree, suposedly an ages-old treant of tremendous power that habits deep in the forest, altough very few outside the Kokiri have ever seen it, and none are willing to tell where it is.

For centuries they shared a common lifestyle of trying to live in harmony with the forest as well as protecting and keeping it healthy, from stoping wildfires and plagues to planting new seeds. Also playing pranks. Until the elves started studying and developing great magics and martial arts to new levels, grewing proud and carving an empire inside the kokiri forests, constructing countless temples where they stashed their treasures.

It wasn't a big suprise to anyone when they started conflicting with the humans. The origins of the Elven Wars that ensued have been lost to time, but it's well known how they developed and ended. The elves, in their arrogance, ended up shuning their previous brothers and sisters, considering them inferior. The Kokiri retreated to the deepest part of the woods, and it's said the Great Deku Tree itself refused to communicate with the elves, disgusted with their newfound taste for war and power. Meanwhile several Deku Scrubs found a new calling as scrupless merchants, using their natural stealth and mobility to acquire and transport all kinds of goods. They even happily sold the secrets of the forest to the humans in return for vast amounts of rupees and land titles (under human rulership of course). Many lesser feys themselves joined the humans as those learned how to captivate and bind to them. Some human legends say the kokiri themselves teached the humans how to turn fairies into companions, under orders of the Great Deku Tree to teach the elves a lesson. Elves tell much darker tales, of how humans tortured and experimented on captured kokiri and other feys to force to serve them, keeping fairies traped inside bottles for years.

To those factors, there was added the critical detail that humans were more than willing to learn the refined magics and martial arts of the elves, but those refused to learn anything from others, so eventually the ever-adaptable humans ended up victorious. Leged speaks of how then the kokiri fully came out of hiding  and made sure the wood children and humans would now exist in harmony as much as possible. The Elves, as punishment for their arrogance, would have to adhere to human laws and pay tribute to them until the Great Deku Tree declared they had learned their lesson of humility. Many centuries later, they're still waiting, their pride arguably as strong as before.

Goron

This race of giants can be found in most mountainous areas on the Hyrulian islands, in particular in any of its still active volcanos. The fact they subsist on metals and raw rock and actually enjoy living in dangerously hot areas like lava caverns, they rarely are at conflict with other races for resources and usually take isolated and peaceful existances. They're still more than willing to trade and do business with anyone who comes with them, and are particularly renewed for their ability on metal working and the creation of explosive devices of all kinds. They'll however usually demand a sign of wisdom or strenght from others before they're willing to trade their precious wares. They put special value in organic-based connoctions that they can put to use in their crafts. It's said the Hyrulian humans first got their own explosives from the goron, which played a critical part on defeating the elves, and since then there's bomb merchants all over the Hyrulian islands. Even the Hyrulian navy itself owes a good part of its sucess to the finest cannons and handguns known in the world, fruit of goron tech. Gorons themselves swim as well as a rock, so they try to keep as far away from the seas as possible.

Gorons don't really have armies, but their "civilians" are all towering, moving chunks of rock and earth that can smash trough armor with their bare fists, so they're far from defenceless. When gorons believe external action is needed, they usually select a few champions among their best, which are then led by their own chieftain to take care of particularly dangerous tasks.

Zora

Also known as fish people, Zora are a mysterious race that spends most of its time under the waves. They usually prefer to stay out of the wars at the surface, and are usually neutral towards other. Zora like arts and refinement, having an high number of craftsmen, musicians and actors, which usually go in tours trough coastal areas. They suposedly have their own underwater cities on both the seas and big lakes, but only those with some kind of water-breathing actually get to see those so little is known about them. Some of the people who managed to visit the Zora and retruend claim they worship or are even commanded by giant, abominable-looking fish-things. Some scholars speculate that those beings may actually be a late stage of Zora growth, since it's usual for sealife
to suffer massive transformations as they grow up, and those would be the elders of the race.

Zora have trouble working metal and wood for obvious reasons, and are devoid of any natural defensive hide or scales, so many would think them soft beings. However those who try to attack a Zora quickly find out their fins are razor-sharp and that a life of swimming develops powerful and balanced muscles that makes Zora great unarmed fighters, in particular if fighting in water. Altough they live in the sea, Zora abhor piracy and will usually avoid or attack them depending on the conditions, aparently because the pirates love capturing zora newborn and eggs to raise as their slaves.

Besides pirates, commerce and artistic tours, Zora usually don't interact with the surface world and seem to care little about it, but Zora bards are renowed for their tales of great underwater epics, massive battles in the sea's floor against other, darker, underwater races the Zora have fought since they remember. However since no known surface dweller has witnessed them, there's no lack of unbelievers claiming it as just Zora bravado.

Hyrulian Guard

Developed over centuries, the hyrulian military boasts a strong and versatile army that allowed them to expand inside the continent and being famous worldwide. Based on everything they could learn from the wood children, goron and zora, the Hyrulian Guard combines refined elven swordplay to slice trough their enemies, shield phalanxes to hold the line, demolition squads with all kind of explosives, and their mighty navy that combines goron artillery with the zora's deep knowledge of the waters.

But not only for their fighting prowess, the Hyrulian Guard are also known for their highest standards of honor and fervent sense of duty, though their infallible obedience occasionally leads to unnecessary sacrifices when troops blindly follow their orders to the letter. Like if told to guard a position, they'll do so even if something clearly too dangerous for them to face shows up. More than one previous member of the guard has fallen in disgrace for daring to disobey orders from superiors to save his own forces from certain death. Even more dangerous, more than one time was the Hyrulian guard misled into commiting horrible acts when their chain of command was corrupted.

Sheikah

The Shadow Folk, the shadows of the Hylians, very few is known about them, except that when the Hyrulian Guard fails, some mysterious individuals start taking action in critical places. Soon enough, corrupt officers disapear whitout trace, lost important items are retrieved,  hostages from the royal family are rescued, and yet nobody takes credit for it. Either way, more than one Hylian has offered a prayer of thanks for the Sheikah, rumored to watch over Hyrule in its darkest times.

The Land of Dreams.

The Land of Dreams is but one country in the alternate realm known as Planet Pop Star. This alternate reality was once a simple and peaceful place. Then, much of the rest of the world began to be corrupted by a strange force, as if the land itself were being cursed. When the Land of Dream was attacked, it was revealed that the culprit was an entity using the magic of dreams to perverse purposes, and so called itself “The Great Nightmare”. This creature was driven back by the combined efforts of King Dedede, and the great hero Kybrin.

After having repelled The Great Nightmare, King Dedede changed. The once great king began to worry about future attacks, those of The Great Nightmare as well as the possibility of other entities, especially since the Land of Dreams was now the only inhabitable part of Planet Pop Star. He now focuses on making sure his kingdom can survive any attack, at any cost. He looks out at the other realms of existence, he feels that Earth’s war between the humans and the pokemon have given them strength, but it distracts them from greater enemies, and the fact that Kremella now resolves it’s conflicts through sport has left them weak. The King, now viewed as no more than a tyrant, desires to take over these other areas, both with the goal of safeguarding them from still greater threats, as well as to use their strengths to supplement his own kingdom.

Because of this, Kybrin, now leads a rebellion against the now tyrant king. The people of The Land of Dreams have hailed Kybrin as a hero ever since he appeared several years ago, just before the attack of The Great Nightmare. He seems to be a special extraplanar type of the Kirby race, and seemingly the only of his kind. He works quite closely with other powerful Dreaminites, such as Meta Knight, in is rebellion.

Gerudo

"My country lays within a vast desert. When the sun rises into the sky, a burning wind punishes my lands, searing the world. And when the moon climbs into the dark of night, a frigid gale pierces our homes. No matter where it comes, the wind carries the same thing... Death. But the winds that blow across the green fields of Hyrule bring something other than suffering and ruin. I covet that wind, I suppose. "— Ganondorf, in a diplomatic meeting with king Dalus III to try to acquire some yrulian land

The first striking feature of the Gerudo is that they're almost all women. They usually travel to neighbouring lands where they have quick affairs with men they deem suitable, before returning to their land and giving birth to a girl. Once every hundred years however, a male child is born among them, which the Gerudo prophecize is destined to lead and guard them. It is taught by the best Gerudo on all their arts and crafts and when he comes of age is crowned as their king. The Gerudo all but worship this man as a living god, and his word is the absolute law.

The great Geurdo desert is a mercyless wasteland that covers a significant part of Elibe, barren rock and sand as far as the eye can see. During day the sun will char you to the bones, at night the cold will freeze you to the soul, and all along constant storms blind any unwary traveler. Any kind of large rock formation that may look like it can offer some shelter will inevitably house some wandering, ravenous monster that will attack anyone who aproaches whitout warning.

This land has a significant amount of buried ruins sugesting that great empires once trived here, but now the masters of this land are the semi-nomadic Gerudo. For some they're the guardians of the desert that watch over the few precious water sources in there and guide for the travelers who want to use the desert as a shortcut between other parts of Elibe. For others, the Gerudo are filthy thieves, raiders, and pirates all, striking at their rich neighbour lands before retreating back into the deadly Gerudo desert, where no sane general will follow them. Even outside magic seems to have trouble entering this land, with teleportations being diverted, divinations blocked, and the weather only geting worst if anyone tries to make it better.

Some scholars claim both may as well be true. Gerudo grow up in a specially harsh enviroment, struggling to survive at every moment of their life. For them might makes right.  Their land can barely produce food of any kind, while their neighbours grow fat crops and create cattle. So if they just leave them in the open fields,  the Gerudo will simply take a share for themselves, fighting trough defenders or sneaking trough fortresses. Almost all gerudo are born warriors, trained into the use of scimitar, spear and bow since they can walk. Moving in their purebreed horses on land or sailing in their fast boats in sea, trusting only in light armor and their skill to protect them from any "soft" guards that may stand on their way. They also usually dwell in the darker mystical arts, because those cursed lands make it basically impossible to train in any other kind of magic. Those few Gerudo that aren't fit for martial arts inevitably take the full path of caster, crafting magic gear, potions and providing other invaluable arcane and divine suport. There's no room for those who can't fight or directly suport those who fight in Gerudo society.

Ganondorf

The current king of the Gerudo, Ganondorf is a mighty warrior, skilled sorceror, shrewd diplomat, and above all else, an ambitious man. His every act so far seems to make the Gerudo (and thus himself) stronger. He's so far brought some small neighbouring nations of Elbe under his rule trough a mixture of intimidation, military conquest and oportunism, altough that's not that uncommon among the countless warring nations across the region. Several other city-states are rumored to be all but under Ganondorf's command, their current leaders  now simple puppets that dance under Ganondorf's threats and magics. As for the strongest nations around Gerudo Desert, in particular Hyrule, Ganondorf has somehow climbed his way into all their courts! His exotic looks are said to charm many women, his fighting prowess earns him the respect of knights in tournaments, and he's able to hold deep discussions about the arcane arts and religion with the most erudite scholars, while throwing elaborated comments about the current politic situations. When confronted with acusations that he's nothing more than a Bandit King, he shows indignations and counters that every land has criminals, and altough he does his best to make sure his people follow the deals they have with other countries, the Gerudo Desert is pretty big and the Gerudo Tribe doesn't have that many members, making it impossible for effectively police all their area.

More interestingly, when someone claims they saw Ganondorf himself leading an assault against a suposed ally, the Gerudo King always has an alibi. He was at an important tournament, or a ball, or a diplomatic meeting, with multiple witnesses backing him up that he couldn't possibly be leading a raid in some other country at a time. A fabrication? An impostor? Who knows? Either way, the raids Ganondorf suposedly leads end up acquiring more valuable treasure for the Gerudo and weakening their enemies, while the social events he suposedly atends at the same time garner him prestige and solidify his reputation.

Only one black spot seems to exist in Ganondorf's ascending path, an almost irrational hate or fear of fey. He'll go to great lenghts to make sure he isn't seen with them in public, even tough Great Fairy Shrines are some of the most popular locations across the lands outside Gerudo Desert, in particular Hyrule.  Rumors that he has crushed kokiri fairy companions with his bare hands,  and horribly disfigured a Great Fairy once are common among those that believe Ganondorf's up to no good.

Gods

At some point, gods (or at least beings of godlike power) did exist. They shaped the worlds and left many signs of their existance behind. However for some reason, on the present day most of them seem to be dead, missing or severly weakened, and thus no longer changing reality, leaving the mortal races to follow their paths. With the exception of the God of the Dead who still collects the souls of those who passed away and ensures the cycle of life, but even he can be bribed.

Golden Goddesses

Still popular all over the land of Hyrule, Din, Red Goddess of Power, Nayru, Blue Goddess of Wisdom, and Farore, Green Goddess of Courage have been said to create this world before leaving for some unknown reason. They suposedly left behind an artifact of incredible power, the Triforce, that suposedly can grant any wish, but can only be wielded by one that has a perfect balance of Courage, Power and Wisdom in their souls. Anyone who tries to use it whitout meeting those requirements will cause the Triforce to splinter in three, each fragment still granting one of its abilities to the wearer. But alone, their potential is much lower. Wisdom may show you the true path, but is useless whitout the power to suceed. Power may allow you to suceed, but you'll still need courage to actually atempt it. And courage will lead you to a fool's grave if you don't have the wisdom on how to use it. Hyrulian folklore is filled with legends of heroes and villains fighting for the triforce, only for it to be splintered once more and the cycle to begin anew. Sages track several key events in Hyrulian history to the discovery and loss of any of the triforces. They're usually depicted as simple golden triangles, altough other legends defend they'll appear as golden marks on those that prove worthy of it, only manifesting in times of need.

Depictions of the Golden Goddesses and the TriForce are common all among Hyrulian architecture, even those dating from millenia ago. There's also tales and temples  to other lesser gods, like the Four Giants and Majora, but always in a secondary role at best.

An interesting curiosity is that at certain points in Hyrulian history, some women appeared bearing a striking resemblance to the Golden Goddesses of legend, even at the point of bearing their names. They all possessed incredible powers, but never claimed to be deities, just oracles at best. They would perform some key deeds while wandering the land before disapearing whitout trace. Some sages claim this is proof that the goddesses have been weakened by some past event and never actually left our world, now wandering among us. Others claim that it was the goddesses answering our pleas in time of need, but still giving us an oportunity of proving our own valor.

Pokemon Gods

Pokemons are usually considered wildlife, being born, breeding and dying. But some pokemon seem to be an exception to that rule. There's only been recorded one of them at any time (barring time-dimension manipulation incidents), and they don't produce offspring. And probably more important, they wield powers far beyond that of any other pokemon.

When said pokemons are witnessed, it's usually an omen of great events, good or bad. Sometimes they may even bond with specially skilled trainers and even allow themselves to be captured by those they considered worthy (not whitout a good fight before mind you). Whitout fail, any trainer who can catch one of those pokemon gods will perform great deeds, sometimes even reshaping the land itself. When they pass away, their pokemon gods disapear, only to resurface years or decades later at some other place.

Yet this modern Earth world has little place for so called "gods", not when mortals  may be able to replicate and abuse their amazing powers to their personal ends. Recently, several companies have mounted expeditions to try to capture and study those rare and valuable specimens. Rumor is that Team Rocket is behind several of those projects. Even more disturbing rumors are that some companies try to clone in laboratory their own pokemon gods, using pieces of fur, feathers or any other vestige suposedly left behind by that kind of beings. Whatever results they've obtained seem to have been disastrous at best. The Mewtwo incident in particular  left multiple cities razed to the ground, and the governments never confirmed they actually got the culprit.

Life Containers

Due to unknown processes, those large crystals usually form inside creatures that have lived very long lifes, showed extreme cruelty and vileness, or both. When such a creature finally dies, most of its body and gear usually explodes, leaving behind one or more Life Container depending on its life span and how evil it was. In less advanced societies they're admired as refined jewels, in more advanced ones they can be found as core parts of special machines that can tap part of their power. Either way, they're virtually indestructible, but when touched by beings of great soul, the Life Container will fuse with them, amplifying their own life force. Most societies have their own legends of great heroes that collected vast amounts of Life Containers in order to be able to whitstand attacks that would instantly crush any lesser mortal. This inevitably involves a mixture of slaying great beasts, carefully searching every nook and cranny in ancient places, and sometimes participating in silly contests.

A Life Container permanently increases a PC's HP by 1 when picked up.

Rupees

The most widely used currency on the Hyrulian Kingdom, rupees are small jewels that come in diferent colors and sizes that determine their value. Interestingly enough, rupees can't be only found inside mines, but also inside certain plants and wildlife, their exact origin process still a widely discussed topic by sages all over the land. This however guarantees that no able man is ever reduced to complete poverty, as they can simply go out there and cut some wild grass to get money (altough that also normally implies having to deal with the local wildlife, that can be quite dangerous depending on the region). The usual rate of conversion with metal coinage is one gold piece to one green rupee.

Elibe

The biggest continent of the land, Elibe is divided in a myriad of ever-changing minor kingdoms that have waged war between each other for millenia now. Such conflict has no complicated philosophies or beliefs behind it-Simply put, every king of the area dreams to become the uncontested lord of Elibe. Every kingdom strives to maintain a well trained and equiped standing armies, and every lords and prince train to be mighty warriors or mages on their own right.      However every time one such king starts gaining too much power and land, he inevitably ends up facing a coalition of lesser kingdoms banding togheter against the “cruel tyrant”. Thus battles across Elibe are not fought with just sword and tome in the battlefields but also diplomatic treaties and negotiations on the courts.

Not all land is ruled in Elibe however. The wilder regions with little on the way of natural resources aren't claimed by any king, being instead the home of a variety of nomad tribes, mercenary organizations and bandit groups. In coastal areas, pirates are almost certain to be lurking around. For the right price and conditions, any of those groups will lend their power to others willing to pay their wages.

From an outsider's point of view, the continent of Elibe may seem like a massive board game where the kings move the forces under their command as if they were chess pieces, trying to outdo each in strategy and cunning. Unlike regular chess, each king also seeks to gather the best pieces possible for his or her own force. It's common practise for the victorious armies to absorb the champions of the defeated into their own ranks, usually blackmailing them by holding their families hostage. It's also common for routed troops who lost their leaders to offer their allegiance to other forces, eager for a chance at payback against the enemy that defeated them. It's not even unheard off for troops to switch colors in the heat of battle as they meet old friends or lovers on the other side of the conflict. Or perhaps they were simply tired of serving a particularly cruel master that would sacrifice  them as simple pawns.

Geography wise Elibe has a variety of terrains from lush forest and fertile plains to dry deserts and internal seas. Castles and lesser fortifications are a common sight across the land, constantly changing sides depending on the winds of war. The people of the land have somewhat grow used to this volatic existence, where they're being “liberated” every other month, warmly acepting any newcomers and sometimes even gifting them with powerful items to gain their good will. Commerce flourishes under the constant conflict, as fresh armaments and other supplies are always in high demand. Some shops will actually offer special deals and offers to their “best” costumers.

The Scouring
“Once, dragons and men coexisted. They shared a peace forged in wisdom, a peace that lasted many generations. All that was lost when mankind disrupted this balance in a sudden onslaught. Man fought dragon is a savage war that shook the foundations of their world. This war was called The Scouring. Defeated and humbled, dragons vanished from the realm. In time, man rebuilt and spread his dominion across the land and on the islands beyond. More than a  millennium has passed since those dark days ended.”

Acording to legends, dragons once lived side by side with humanoid races all across Elibe.  Not to say that it was a flawless utopia, but those races recognized each other as sentient beings with their own rights and needs.   However, for now forgoten reasons (some speculate jeaously or a simple mix of hate and fear), the humanoids declared war on the dragons. The ensuing conflict was nothing short of horrific, with both sides quickly escalating the scales as new devastating magics and technologies were unleashed. The humanoids had the initial advantage due to sheer numberic superiority, in particular when it would take a wyrmling centuries to replace a wyrm fallen in battle, whereas races as humans and orcs matured their young in a fraction of the time. Some dragons then started researching a method of acelerating the development of their own, resulting in mass produced vicious beasts with no other intent but destruction, pushing back the humanoids. The tipping point then came when several dragons decided that they had gone too far-They were now turning their own children in almost mindless bloodthirsty beasts. Even if they prevailed over the humanoids, they would have no future. Thus many dragons exiled themselves to the most remote areas of Elibe or even other dimensions. The humanoids, mistaking this retreat for weakness and fear, pushed harder than ever against the dragons that still fought. New, deadlier weapons tore apart reality itself in an attempt to slay the dragons that still resisted.

The Ending Winter.

There was just how much breaking reality could take however. Soon enough a series of elemental imbalances started to occur all over the land, resulting in countless calamities. The Ending Winter sapped much of the potential magical and technological energy out of  not only Elibe but from the whole world in order to repair the damage that had been dealt. The dragons that still fought found much of their power sealed and forced into feeble humanoid forms. The humanoids realized their own foolishness that almost brough the apocalypse over themselves and hid their strongest creations  in secret locations, all heavily guarded by traps and elemental hazards. They were still too prideful to dare to destroy their greatest creations.

Thus dragons still exist all over Elibe, but mostly hiding in the form of normal humanoid races. Most of them are still capable of unleashing their power of old trough the use of special stones or other techniques and items, altough usually in a limited way. Some have managed to claw back into positions of power and respect among humanoids. Others just try to lie low. Some rumors speak of isolated communities where the dragons that had escaped the Ending Winter have returned and now live again side by side with humanoids, altough all expiditions to try to find such places seem to always end up failing one way or the other. Most Elibe kings would kill for the chance of harnessing the power of a fully fledged dragon to their forces. For now most of them are content with using wyvern riders as the most elite troops of the land.

Koopa Troop

Also known as the Turtle Tribe and Koopa Clan, this group is native to the Kremellan Continent.  Highly militaristic in nature, it is composed mostly of Koopas-a species of turtle-people with numerous subraces- but they also include myconid factions such as the Goombas and many other minor groups of the land. They regularly come in conflict with the Mushroom Kingdom, claiming to seek revenge for some ancient grudge the humans caused, though many of their goals seem based entirely on their leader-King Bowser's own interests . However those incidents usually don't escalate beyond minor skirmishes and raids. One could say there's actually a friendly rivarly between those two factions, since it's far from uncommon for King Marsilio and Queen Picioritte to meet with King Boswer for a variety of sport cometitions. It's common knowledge that Queen Picioritte has been “kidnaped” by Boswer more times that anyone bothered to count and always returned whitout a scratch after King Marsilio went in for a formal challenge. If this is some extremely complex political game or simply a large scale love triangle none can tell.

Despite their primitive looks, the Koopa Troops have suprisingly advanced technology. Not only their engineers are renowed for the quick construction of dungeons and fortifications filled with traps and secret passages, they have been known to manufacture bombs, automatons, tanks, airships and even spaceships. Their only shortfall seems to be that they still didn't develop proper industrial production capacities, meaning most of their tech wonders are few of a kind and can't be replaced easily (with the notable exception of explosive automatons such as the bomb-ombs meant for suicide attacks). The Koopa troops aren't complete slouches in magic either, with the elite Magikoopas providing mystic support.

However the main focus of the Koopa troops is in physical prowess. Their basic grunts usually charge in unarmed trusting their tick shells to both defend themselves and ram the enemy.  Several subraces have feathery wings that allow them to fly, shells with sharp spikes, or, rarely, both.
(click to show/hide)

Specially feared and respected among the Koopa Troops are the Hammer Bros, Koopas that wear extra layers of armor and wield hammers with expert skill, pummeling their opponents at both melee and range. The best of them are the Sledge Bros, wielding heavier weapons and armor than their partners. They perform both shock troop duty and guard key places, and will sometimes strike from above riding flying plataforms of Koopa design.

Koopa Troops can be found almost anywhere in the Kremellan continent and they've been known to conduct operations in other lands and worlds by traveling trough warp pipes and portals. Some Koopas have chosen to led a more peaceful lifestyle and settled in small villages and communities in more secluded areas,  taking menial jobs such as carriers. More interestingly, some Bomb-ombs of the Koopa troops developed a will of their own and ran away to form communities of their own. All in all the Koopa Troops have a lot of power and potential, but severly lack on the field of large-scale organization and bureucracy.

King Boswer
“Whatever... Stomping fools is my business! Show me a fool, I'll stomp it! I don't even need a reason!”

With the full title of Great Demon King Koopa, Boswer has always been the supreme leader of the Koopa Troops. It is unknown whetever it is the same Boswer that has led them for centuries now (as turtle-people can live quite long), or if it is the title the koopa bestow upon their leader. Either way Boswer has clear traces of  Infernal or Draconic nature (perhaps both), possessing exceptional resistance against fire (he's been known for retreating from difficult situations by swimming trough lava), horns, and  a flaming breath. Not to mention his exceptional physical strength, size and extra spiked bits compared to a regular koopa. Drastically stronger than any other koopa, there's many theories to where he got his powers, from having personally slain and eaten a red wyrm to having obtained an ancient hidden power from the Land of Dreams. Which would explain his long lasting rivarly with King Dedede, with who he has common conflicts over control of warp pipes and portals.

Personality Wise, King Boswer is more angry and childish than dangerous. A selfish and prideful being, he lusts over gold and pretty noble women, and will go to great extents to keep his image of a tyrant villain. However he's actually horrified for senseless destruction and death, and will rather have living rivals to challenge and amuse him than dead corpses. More than once has King Boswer ordered the Koopa Troops to join their forces with the Mushroom Kingdom to face bigger common enemies, and, as already mentioned, is always up for sport competitions. Sometimes, he'll even (grudgingly) show remorses for his evil deeds. There's definetely more to Boswer than he leads others to believe.

King Boswer is also the proud father of numerous children than he employs as generals of the Koopa Troops. The mother(s) remain a closely guarded secret to this day.

Metal Men

Just like some worlds evolved around magic and mysticism, others evolved around high technology.
The final logical product of that evolution were sentient, autonomous artificial beings-The Metal Men. Altough their exact origins have been lost to time, stories tell of two colleague scientists turned rivals turned enemies-Dr. Blight and Dr. Waily. Altough robots of diferent kinds were already relatively common before either was born, they were crude, stupid machines, incapable of iniative or independent action and needing constant maintenance and supervision from humans to work.

Togheter Dr. Blight and Dr.Waily refined robot technology and developed new, improved artificial intelegences that ended up resulting in the first Metal Men prototype-which quickly malfuctioned and rebelled against its creators, running away at its first opportunity. No records are left of what hapened to this first proto-man, but it's at this time the schism started- Dr.Blight believed that any new Metal Men should be carefully indoctrinated to ensure their obedience and loyalty while retaining their ability to improvise and inovate as sentient beings, while Dr. Waily  defended that Metal Men should not stands as slaves, but  equals to the rest of humans, if not above.

This diference of ideas quickly escalated into conflict as the doctors separated and each started to seek to secure more resources for their own research. Soon enough they were sending their Metal Men against each other, seeking to sabotage their rival's work (or perhaps simply to prove their own creations superiority). Ironically enough,  this also resulted in resulted in both sides geting generous funds from a myriad of diferent organizations-the immense power of Metal Men was just being revealed, and everybody wanted a piece of it!

In the end, both Dr-Blight and Dr-Waily ended up dying of old age, but they left behind the legacy of Metal Men to their world. New generations of scientists started to learn and develop this new technology, and the events that unfolded could fill several libaries. However it bears saying that just as metal men were a great force for good performing all kinds of dangerous and harduous tasks, they were also a force for evil as ruthless individuals used Metal Men as elite soldiers, unstopable engines of carnage. New models such as the mass-produced Mechaniloids with inferior AI , and the pure-energy cyber-fey were developed over the next decades. Space exploration and trade flourished among several planets, spreading the Metal Men to diferent points of the galaxy.

The next big leap was when Metal Men became smart enough to start multiplying and developing by themselves. Suddenly, humans faced the possibility of becoming “obsolete”. This resulted in a whole new series of schisms:
-Some humans decided to bet in even more strict indoctrination of Metal Men, ensuring their absolute loyalty to their “inferior flesh” masters.
-Other humans decided the clear solution was to improve themselves with technology, manipulating their children's DNA and making high use of artificial prothesis. In some extreme cases they abandoned “natural” reproduction alltogheter, simply “building” up new artificial humans from scratch as needed. It's common among those groups that, in order to avoid stagnation, whetever  human or Metal Men, everyone has an “expiration date”, after which they're killed/shut down to make room for new generations.
-And  in some areas sentient organic life fully disapeared, either trough violence or simple decadence, Metal Men becoming the unquestionable ruling “species”. Which more often than not ends up with them fighting against each other for resources and power.

Some have joined the Galactic Federation, many form independent planet or systems, others roam the space whitout any particular destiny, others yet form hidden societies. They've contacted multiple other civilizations on their spread, altough not always do those other civilizations understand the true nature of Metal Men. Altough one could argue nobody knows the true nature of Metal Men-not even themselves, since currently they can be "born" trough a multitude of diferent processes.

The conflicts between those diferent sects has lasted for centuries now, sometimes with devastating results. But the strongest, smartest Metal Men don't end easily. Backup data storages can rescue their minds and personalities. New, better bodies can be constructed to allow them to walk the world again. Just because you destroyed their shell doesn't mean you ended their existence. Some Metal Men have existed for millenia, perhaps more. Some even say that Dr.Wailey and Dr.Blight still walk among us, having simply been the first to trade their organic systems for the bodies of Metal Men.
