Game Title: Faith&Fortune (at least until I find a wittier one)
System: WH40kRPG Rogue Trader
Players wanted: 3 to 6
Type of game: Sandbox. You're a Rogue Trader and his crew, so you pretty much decide where you want to go and what you want to do (trading, exploring, piracy etc.). I aim to start with one published adventure and then continue with my own design.
Starting rank :1 (as per standard character creation); Everything is allowed (including Xenos).
Stat generation: Point buy (100 points) for characters, Ship&Warrant origin path for generating starting SP and PF
Houserules of note: Gear from other FFG game systems is allowed on a case by case basis. However, if a rule is different in Rogue Trader than in that other system, we will use the Rogue Trader rule (so for example a best-quality Astartes Storm Bolter from Deathwatch will get the effects for RT best quality, not DW equivalent of Best quality. Also, I might be using DW Horde rules.

Rogue Trader, you say ? Count me in !
Koronus Expanse, or an homebrew sector ? rank 1, or above ? what books are available ? How many SP can we toy with for the beginning ship ?
"-Lady-Captain, we detect 20 hostile vessels against us,  and Erasmus Haarlock's Spear of Destiny ! What are your orders ?
-RAMMING SPEED !

final result : 6 slaughts vessels, 4 imperial frigates, 2 imperial cruisers destroyed. Haarlock sent into the warp. 0 losses. Flawless Victory.

Koronus Expanse to start out, but you can pretty much head wherever you feel like.
Rank 1.
All Rogue Trader books allowed, as well as stuff from any other FFG book on a case by case basis (for example if you want some tanks or APCs from Only War or Deathwatch).
Regarding starting SP and PF, I'm a fan of the Ship and Warrant Path from Into the Storm (it adds some personality, both story-wise as well as the occasional Archeotech or Xenotech and the end result tends to be around the same as the Core Rulebook values).

This looks interesting. I've never played Rogue Trader, but the Wikipedia description on the setting caught my attention. Would you take a total noob in your campaign?

Soooo... I can do a RT, a Seneschal, a Voidmaster, or try a Navis Scion for once. As for the ship, I am really found of cruisers, but of course, the whole team should choose alltogether.  I can build one in half an hour, If needed.

@LordBlades: I'm getting the book tonight. I'll soon have a character concept, but I'm taking suggestions too. I'm looking for a skillmonkey kind of guy, but that can change if I find something more fun in the book.

The Seneschal will be up your forte then : the commerce/knowledge/spying specialist. Archeologist, badass accountant, Spymaster, they can do it !

I've never really even looked at Rogue Trader before.  How does it generally play?  I'd definitely be interested in something that plays in the spirit of Firefly ("Find a job.  Find a crew.  Keep flying.").
I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right.

More like "You are  Hernan Cortez in space, with a large ship, a small army. Go forth and go conquer and spread His Word."
by the way, it would be nice, for once, to have a really Conquistador like dynasty in term of style...

Hmm ok. I'm marginally less interested, but it still sounds cool :) count me as still interested unless someone else really wants that spot.

Among the WH40K RPGs I know, Rogue Trader has been my favourite. As a Rogue Trader crew you're pretty much as close as it gets to free in the Imperium and you can explore at leisure interact with whomever you see fit and mostly how you see fit. The other RPGs except Black Crusade 'shackle' you as a cog in some part of other of the Imperial machine, be it Inquisition (Dark Heresy), Imperial Guard (Only War) or Space Marines ( Deathwatch)

I know I asked for something like the Seneschal, but after skimming through the book I've got my attention grabbed torwards the Explorer and to the Void Master. Are they good career paths? Can anyone give me a short description on both? Harald? I need to know if I really got those careers' role in the party.

Interact with whomever? I don't believe you for a second. Most people you could interact with will get you executed for Heresy one way or the other. :P

It's my understanding that the Warrant of Trade grants you the authority to deal with xeno cultures as you see fit, whether that's nuking them from orbit or arranging peaceful trade deals.  Of course, if you interact too peacefully with those vile xenos, you might draw scrutiny from the Inquisitors...

Well, you are expected to act for the best interest of Mankind (and fulfill whatever specific conditions a particular Warrant of Trade might have), but beyond that it's pretty much whatever you feel like outside the boundaries of the Imperium. And there's very little the Inquisition can do about it , legally at least. From that point of view you're equal in status to Inquisitors and Space Marine Chapter Masters, so actually prosecuting a Rogue Trader for heresy is rather difficult. I'd expect that if the average Inquisitor gets pissed off at a particular Rogue Trader he'd try and get 'justice' done by force or subterfuge rather than follow the proper way to do it.

And if you find a peaceful way to interact with Orks, then you're allowed to do that too (Ork Freebooters in service of humans aren't exactly unheard of).

I was thinking about the way Orks reproduce. Letting them onto your ship seems like a veeeeeeery bad idea.
