So the NHL is maybe possibly (pretty surely) looking at expansion, and Las Vegas is looking like number 1 on their list of places that get a shot at a team.  Bettmen keeps denying talks, but talks have happened, and they recently voted to allow the potential owners to hold a "season ticket drive" to gauge interest.  So....

What team name would Vegas have?

If there is no gambling reference, I--as a non-american--will be disgusted and disappointed.

One of the articles mentioned that "no one outside of Vegas thinks there's anyone there but casino dealers, cocktail waitresses, and hookers"  So my choice would be the "dealingwaitresshookers".  My mom suggested the Desert Rats (what?), but I pointed out that it would be an issue when they faced the Arizona Coyotes ;)

How about the "Las Vegas WeUsedTheLastWaterInTheStateToCoverThisRinkWithIce-s"? Or is that better as a California team name?

No, absolutely that's a Vegas name.  The California places have an ocean next door.  Las Vegas actually destroyed a lake to water their lawns.

Watched UFC tonight; and I must say, I'm a little pissed.

1st: why do the Diaz brothers even still have jobs?  They are both whiny-ass cry-babies, way over-rated, and are flat-out disrespectful - not only to other fighters, but to the sport.  I'm so glad Nate got destroyed tonight.

And now for the bullshit: Dos Santos -v- Miocic.  That was some straight-up Don King b.s. right there.  Don't get me wrong -- if anything, I was actually biased towards Dos Santos; but he got owned for 25 minutes.  I could've even accepted a split decision; but not only was it unanimous, 2 of the judges actually gave Dos Santos 4 rounds!
The ONLY not-rigged excuse is the punch count (123-to-89) .... but that doesn't even come anywhere close to telling the story.  The scoring system is a pathetic joke; and if the scoring system is that much of a joke, what does that say about the rest of the operation?

All I have to say is that Jones -v- Cormier better not be a stinker; my patience is running thin.

i think you about summed that event up.

i hadnt realized they were having a Fox event and stumbled onto it....

then i see the card is stacked, at least in theory.

gonzaga? really? basketball sure... but ufc? thats a retirement fight, who ever looses should retire. if you cant beat G.G. you are not ufc material. its Rockey Horror time, we are Doin the Time Warp back to 2008.

i like struve, i think reem's hype is as roided as he is. sure, he can whip G.G. 9 times of 10 but thats not something to brag about.

it might just by my preference for struve but i think the ref screwed him a little. maybe i need to rewatch to make sure. not that i think we was gonna pull out of it...

i always enjoy watching a Diaz get beat on. his poor leg, ouch thats gonna hurt tomorrow... and the rest of his life. of the two diaz bros, i prefer nate. nick is worthless.

i watched the first 3 rounds of Dos Santos and Mio. im a little ambivalent about the way that fight was progressing.
i know how it ended, and have seen the judges card info. what i saw dont match up with what the judges saw. stipe was slowing down but he was still dominate. Junior looked bloated.

the ambivalence is; neither of these guys (based on history and what i saw tonight) needs to fight Cain.

at least not the Cain that showed up last time and Cosbied Junior.

and Dos Santos has already had 3 fights w/ Cain, lost 2 of em.

that thats my 35c....

i basically fully agree w/ WotM.

Also, i think Bones is going to have little to no problem w/ DC. I was immensely impressed w/ what DC did to/with Hendo, but Dan isnt anything like Bones. Bones has shown 'next level' skill. so unless a doc stops it, or herb dean panics cause someone gets winded... i think its Bones's to loose.

I didn't mind the Overeem fight ..... the ref seriously stopped a murder from happening.

Miocic didn't slow down any further -- round 3 was his low point.  Junior had more rust than a '68 chevy buried in a Georgia swamp.
Also - and this part really disappoints me -- there's nobody in the hw division that deserves to be in the same cage as Cain.

Here's my take on that one:
Bones, based on his last several fights, simply fights to not-lose.  I think that DC is going to bring enough heat that if Bones doesn't actually step-up and try to close, then he's going to get submitted.  Bones should win, but he's going to have to reignite that fire in his belly (which I have some doubts about) .

the last time Cain fought Dos Santos; violence is entertaining. i might rewatch it tonight :D

Bones does need to take DC seriously... that would be a sad mistake not to.

So, Jon Jones is a punk bitch, and I've now lost all respect for him as a human being -- that display at the end of the fight tonight was simply and flat-out disgusting.  DC gave a very good accounting of himself -- his lack of endurance is what killed him (that, and the convenient eye-poke that gave Jones a chance to avoid what was building to be an imminent knock-out and to regroup).

All in all, a very good card.  That prelim knock-out with Felder was AWESOME!  This guy is definitely someone to watch.

Bones has a glint in his eye, similar to Big Ben after that hit in the Steelers game.

I mean I'd assume that UFC wouldn't work if they had to use the NFL's concussion protocol ;  still, Bones ain't quite what he used to be.

Not surprised the Steelers lost.
Big rain storm, no Bell, one of the fancy stats guys had their D ranked #31 in the league, and the Ravens the #2 to #5 team all season even with all their injuries.

Yeah, and the Arizona game?  Not surprising that it was the fewest yards ever in a playoff game.  When you are starting your third string QB who hasn't even played with the team until a couple weeks ago, and with the other injuries?  Not surprising.  All I care about is the best NFC team possible taking on Seattle to put them in their place.  Hopefully that happens in this coming round!

i didnt think that eye poke was all that pokey

one of the great things about mma is the amount of good sportsmanship that gets displayed. these guys who can break each other in half and shake hands afterwards is great, cant praise that enough. but... its not a requirement.

that attempt to sucker punch at the end was childish...

i feel a little bad for DC, can he drop another weight class? i dont think he'll be happy as the #2 or 3 lhw guy for very long... and moving back up is just as bad.

as for the fight its self, i was surprised that jones looked tired going into round three. this guy has no excuse for cardio. otherwise after guf gets his rebate shot, idk the whole lhw division is looking sparse for legit title shots.

I don't need post-fight mutual ass-kissing lovefest ..... I didn't even really mind (for example) Rousey's behavior before/after the second Tate fight.  But that 1-2 sucker-punch was over the line.  Compounding things further is the stark contrast between his fairly recent general attitude and what we've seen in years past .... I think that we're now seeing the "real" Jones -- it's just disappointing.

As for DC .... better endurance would make him a much more viable contender.  I just don't see it as a possibility for him to drop yet another weight class ... if he was 5-10 years younger, maybe, but not now.
Jones was able to dictate the pace against Gufstason; DC, OTOH, was the first person to be able to dictate the pace against Jones ever -- and that's really saying something.  Jones looked tired going in to round 3 because he had just gotten his ass whooped all over the cage for the last 5 minutes (well, 6+ really ...) -- I just saw that as a logical building of momentum.  While the eye poke wasn't especially egregious or devastating in itself, it was enough to stall DC's momentum and to get an extra minute of breather for Jones .... that's a huge deal -- just ask Yoel Romero RE: Tim Kennedy.

But whatever -- I'm looking forward to the next Fox event and UFC 184.  :cheers

i would be more upset w/ the sucker punching if it had been after the bell... when jones put his hands up  DC 'shoulda' done anything but stop.

speaking of cardio, DC should be a cardio monster also. really any pro mma guy needs to be cardio immune. (is there a term im forgetting?  :)  )

those next events are stacked...

im interested to see of anthony johnson can keep his momentum going. him and the O. St.P are the only lhp people i see that have realistic potential left.

Dana White has some 'splainin' to do:
Stats:
Henderson -v- Cerone
Pendred -v- Spencer
Seriously, WTF?!

Oh, and I want to double-down on Jones being a shitbag: http://www.foxsports.com/ufc/story/dana-white-definitely-something-wrong-if-jon-jones-is-doing-cocaine-3-weeks-before-fight-011515
I find it curious that this doesn't come out until after the fight.

id hesitate to say Hendo got 'robbed' but he def got a raw deal....

AJ is on a roll, looked really good. he seems to have broken one of the CO fundamental rules.... he wasnt going first... he did however do a good job of going last. :cool

almost forgot, i think Davis won his fight... not that i ever need to see him or bader fight again, they should both look into getting a car dealership or something going.

So there's this story going around the sports world.  See, people think the Patriots cheated because they followed the ideal gas law.  There's basically two camps that I see.  People who hate the Pats, and people who think this is ridiculous.
