General D&D Discussion / Becoming like Gods
« on: June 28, 2014, 06:13:16 AM »
I'm currently running a game where the main theme of the story is ascension. The PCs each have a spark of divinity and a representative item that represents their divinity and will grow their panoply as they advance in the game.

Now Deities and Demigods and their DvR systems are shit.

So I've resorted to extra feats, class features from other classes and unique artifacts to represent their power. But my players are still not yet to fully grasp their power and before that happens, I need something else to represent their power.

Should I continue as I have done (extra feats, class features, artifacts) or does anyone of you have an alternative deity system I could mull over?

Gaming Advice / Setting Sun vs Long Reach Grapplers
« on: August 26, 2013, 10:51:29 AM »
Any advice on how well can this Discipline tackle grapplers with long reach? I intended an NPC to be a Master of Nine, but I wonder how much good can he do if he's just going to get grappled and raped.

Gaming Advice / [DM Advice] Shutting down a melee option
« on: June 30, 2013, 09:33:39 AM »
I would like to seek help from you fellow DMs.

I am currently running a game where there is this antagonist organization that sends agents after my players. This second encounter with such an agent led to a very boring and protracted fight. One of my players is a grapple specialist that managed to get her attacker in a grapple.

Now this is a good thing because it effectively shuts the attacker down (who was a caster-base), but it still ended up a battle of attrition where both parties deal very piecemeal damage to each other.

Now my problem is, the agent managed to escape with in-game knowledge that one of the protagonists is too damn good with grapples. I have in-game justification to have the organization prepared and ready against her grappling antics. But OOC-wise, should I deny my player this legitimate melee tactic to shut a caster down by making extra precautions in-game against such attacks?

Gaming Advice / Worshipping the Celestial Paragons
« on: February 27, 2013, 08:45:00 AM »
I know in BoED it has been stated that they cannot and do not grant spells.

But has anyone ever assigned a deity stat block to each of the Celestial Paragons? Did anyone come across a "pantheon"-like information about them? I cannot seem to find them online.

Please help me.

Legends of the Heroes / Help with map-making
« on: February 13, 2013, 09:48:55 AM »
I'm seeking help from someone who knows how to use some kind of software to help me trace out a world map, and then also provide portions of that same map in pieces. It's for a campaign that I will be running soon.

Can anyone help?

Gaming Advice / Making sense of Damage Reduction.
« on: September 30, 2012, 11:53:03 PM »
When I first played D&D till now, certain DR just doesn't seem to make sense to me.

Like example, I'd expect angels and demons/devils that fight against each other constantly to be resistant to each other's attacks. So for a good outsider to have DR/evil means that they're only more resistant to anything that is not evil.

In one of my early campaigns, we were facing really extremist good outsiders who wanted to decimate a nation Sodom-style because the king is a real demonic jackass. We tried to take down that outsider because we have an on-going evacuation that just isn't complete yet. We who are on the side of good to protect innocents, have a hard time dealing with an obviously good (but stupidly extreme) outsider. So in theory, good people never really had a reason to attack a good outsider, a DR that penalizes like that doesn't make sense. And we had to purposely summon an evil outsider just to help us stack more damage while ignoring that DR.

In another campaign, we were playing villains trying to hasten the apocalypse (because whoever survives is technically in-charge of the new World 2.0). We battled against fellow villains, and evil outsiders included. DR/good made sense as evil outsiders would probably have to contend with their own kind constantly. But we totally fucked a good outsider's shit, despite him being "the Angel of Justice and Valor" whose story was pretty much about him an asskicker of evil people, and we bypassed that DR like it doesn't exist.

So while we felt happy to have a slight mechanical advantage against an arch-foe that makes us legitimately scared, outside of the game we felt that the angel was facing a clear disadvantage DR-wise.

So guys, I'm wondering if you guys ever thought about whether the DR system makes flavor sense or not. Let's discuss about this.

Gaming Advice / Something other than Mithral for armor material?
« on: August 25, 2012, 10:10:42 PM »
So far I only recall Mithral as the material of choice to reduce the weight category of armors by 1 step.

Are there any other such type of materials out there that do the same thing?

Off Topic Fun / Getting plus size winterwear
« on: March 14, 2012, 08:27:02 AM »
Wondering if any of you guys can help me out.

I'm a pretty plus size person, shoulder to shoulder roughly 19 inches across.

I'm trying to find decent winterwear that would actually fit me. I'm planning to head to Japan end of this year, winter and all average 12 degrees celsius in the day to around below 6 at night.

Anyone of you knows of a store with a website and online shopping function that has winterwear of my size and slightly bigger?

Hey guys, got a question. We know the Dragon Disciple turns you from non-dragon into a half-dragon.

How would you adapt the class to turn a lesser fey/half-fey/fey-ish heritage/fey-ish lineage into a greater fey?

Any ideas and suggestions would help. Thanks!
