I had the same access issues Flay had. To be precise, it seemed like the owners of plothook.net forgot to pay their domain fees or something. It's back now, but I obviously couldn't access this game or the other one you run that I'm in (the City of the Spider Queen game). Seems fine again, for now.

So, nobody else has action for this round?

Rao can be assumed to be underground anywhere on the map.

Unfortunately dna1 has been MIA from all of the games I was in with him for some time now. His wife had a baby not long ago, and I expect he's just been too swamped to be involved in online gaming. So I'm not sure what we're going to do about that. We could recruit someone else to play Queeny, but it might be hard to reproduce his zeal for evil kitty pics to go along with it. Maybe we should ask bhu?  ;)

As for me, I think I still need to act for the round. I think I got a bit confused with the thread moving. I'll post something tonight.

I had already posted an action before the game moved, and I believe it was translated across to the new board already.

I still count 5 players, so the party should be more than able to hold its own weight. Or you can try to ask around to see if anyone would be interested in taking over a tarrasque PC.

Speaking of which, VennDygrem was retconned into joining the forest ambush since it seemed he was the only player left from the group heading towards the city.

So what would you rather be done with Grimtooth that suposedly was waiting inside the Tarrasque's belly? Try to take on the city solo or be also retconned on being in the forest ambush all along?

Just to say  net and book acess have been rather limited this weekend so I'll only be able to advance the turn sunday night or monday.

Hmm... sure, I guess. Maybe first I could try to dominate and create spawn to get us some "allies" to make an assault on the city easier later. His club can cast Disguise Self to let Grimtooth walk around in the city to "convert" some gate guards. Want to RP that out? It could have happened while Tenth and the rest of the soldiers were preparing to leave.

Remember the vampire spawns need 1d4 days of "brewing" and also need a proper burial to be transformed.

Also you still can't use actual Dominate, just Charm, so you'll need some reasoning to convince them to take more drastic measures.

Finally, it's already morning. You can hide inside your weapon's darkness, but still a ball of darkness moving around the streets would definely atract unwanted atention (and also blocks your gaze attack against guards whitout darkvision).

So you can RP how you take care of the three above.

Ok, now let's give this dice roller a try

Title: Re: OOC thread
Post by: oslecamo on March 26, 2012, 08:01:48 AM
Hmm, how that's possible? Your character has 18 armor plus its natural 4 DR, even if you just had 1 HP left, you would just drop to -13.

EDIT: Also forgot to mention, you get an Aoo against the last cavalier unit as they had to move trough hard terrain and so couldn't 5-step.

Great job guys.

One of the things I liked about the Mindstealer's Change Shape ability is you keep your own hit dice while gaining the special attacks of the form; so poison attacks and such get the benefit of scaling as you level.  Combine that with the Psychic Combine ability with a form that has a large Con, and the DC goes up even further.

Thanks for the detail Oslecamo.  I have a question regarding absorbed spellcasting:  I realize that 8 hours of rest are required to fill spell slots, but how much does Tenth need to stay in the form in question to cast them?  I'll elaborate:

Does he need to sleep the 8 hours in Cleric form to cast Cleric Spells?
Does he need to be in Cleric form to cast Cleric spells?
Can he change forms and back and still cast (begin the day as a Cleric, change to a Troll, change back to a Cleric and cast)?

Thanks in advance.  This is probably obvious to everyone else.
Title: Re: OOC thread
Post by: phaedrusxy on April 09, 2012, 09:53:20 PM
Divine spellcasters don't normally require rest at all to refill spell slots. Clerics can only pray for spells at a certain time of the day, which is normally set by their deity.

Grimtooth has an alchemical item that he could use to move around in the city during daylight (Liquid Night from Libris Mortis) without a giant cloud of darkness around him. I think he could put that on, then use Change Self (from his weapon) to make it appear that he is a human, and at the same time hide the Liquid Night.

So I'll say he's been trying to work on a way to get his "friends" into the city so they can attack it from inside. I'll post and roll some things in the game in a bit.
Title: Re: OOC thread
Post by: phaedrusxy on April 11, 2012, 12:19:07 AM
I actually think the Liquid Night is just too cheesy to even use... I mean, come on? Sunblock is enough to keep a vampire from bursting into flames in daylight?  :lol So... will it be getting dark before these guys get back to the city to assault it?

I'll try to stick to my own RAW here for now, so:
-He needs to rest 8 hours to gain the spell slots regardless of how the original caster recovered them.
-He can combine spellcasting with another form.
-Each 8 hour period rest is only good for one shape. If you change, you need another 8 hour rest period.

Got a test tommorrow, so any other issues will have to wait until then!

Yeah, I think I'll have to ban Liquid Night for being too easy of an ability to negate the vampire's main weakness.

As for geting dark, well, it depends on how much time they. Right now is around mid day, and they would take a couple of hours to reach the city if they don't bother with stealth and the faster ones carry the slower ones. Four hours if going stealth while faster ones carry the others, and they would arrive only by night if the goblins tagged along. Altough I guess you could find some way to contact your allies and tell them to wait.

Title: Re: OOC thread
Post by: VennDygrem on April 12, 2012, 08:35:23 PM
I did some basic math and figured I could probably reach 10 miles in about 40 minutes, assuming I need to slow down every so often between running. If I didn't have to slow down it would be considerably less. Plus I can travel in a straight line underground if need-be.

Still, doesn't solve the problem of getting everyone to the town/village/city/fortress in order to start an attack.
Title: Re: OOC thread
Post by: phaedrusxy on April 17, 2012, 09:55:49 PM
I don't think Grimtooth has many options for contacting his allies, other than traveling to them himself. So I'll just wait till they return to the city, I guess. Or we could say that Queenie and I were waiting outside the city somewhere (underground?), and my character has just been hiding from the daylight, and Queenie's gone into a slumber, like Tarrasques are supposed to do for months at a time...

Title: Re: OOC thread

"Usual" D&D cosmology, but planar travel is kinda risky and unstable, and thus the gods end up playing a less active role. You can pray to them and they do grant spells and perform the ocasional miracle, but outsiders are pretty rare stuff.

Also if no one else noticed in the recruiting subforum, Bhu and Sirpercival are planning to join this campaign to replace our two lost players.

Title: Re: OOC thread
Post by: VennDygrem on May 05, 2012, 01:43:49 AM
I think the lack of darkvision was simply an oversight. All outsiders get darkvision by virtue of their creature type, and while that has little effect on game mechanics in Osle's monster classes, I'm pretty sure he'll add it in if asked.

Darkvision is inherent to all outsiders, as my monster classes do keep the most basic traits. Anyway clarified that you do get darkvision.

Also finally replied to Bhu's PM. This is being a busy weekend in RL terms so all my online stuff will have to wait some time.

Both yours and sirpercival's characters seem going well so far. Altough I could sugest geting a 16 Starting Cha so you can dedicate some points to Con. Your HP is kinda low for a 8th level character.

Just out of curiosity is this a combat intensive campaign, more about shenanigans, or rp heavy?
Title: Re: OOC thread
Post by: phaedrusxy on May 09, 2012, 09:50:37 PM
Well... so far it's been pretty combat heavy, but with some shenanigans as well. I'd say we're basically like a crew of monsters working for Xykon in the OotS. The guys we're currently fighting remind me of the Whitecloaks in the Wheel of Time series, though. It's kind of been a sandbox, though. We've mostly chosen where to go and what to do, and there's not really one strong leader. So if you had an agenda that didn't contradict ours (which seems to be to slash, burn, and destroy everything in our path), I'm sure you could probably persuade us. :D

Like I told Sirpercival, some martial study goodness? I just happen to have a Cha based school (http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=4589.msg64120#msg64120) that could use some testing. Fatal Light Trap in particular looks like a counter that would fit your character.

More like the forces of Law are winning, and the lich is the best bet right now to spread some CHAOZ along the land. :p

Now that I think about it, there's quite a bit of villains out there that go along "civilization is corrupt and decadent, the only solution is to tear everything down so we can begin anew".

Title: Re: OOC thread
Post by: bhu on May 16, 2012, 04:25:21 PM
You know the Vow Feats the made for Vile Darkness and Exalted?  Well I made some parody feats for Chaos.  I'm specifically considering these two:

Disturbing Vows
You have willingly made really weird vows to a Chaotic Deity whom you serve.  meaning you are either most likely a devoted believer, or a closet moose rapist.
Benefits: You have a +4 Anarchic Bonus on all Diplomacy checks made against Chaotic individuals (and -4 against lawful individuals).

Vow of Nudity
You go through life as the Gods intended: butt ass naked.
 Prerequisites: Disturbing Vows
Benefits: You gain a Luck Bonus to Armor Class equal to your Hit Dice.  You also permanently have an Endure Elements spell in effect on your person.  All living beings that can see you take a -2 Penalty on Concentration Checks as they are distracted by your wobbly bits swinging freely in the autumn breeze.  Any spell or ability that causes Fascination used by you has it's Save DC increased by +2.
Special: To fulfill your vow you may not wear clothing other than jewelry, and this includes any magic item occupying the following body slots: Feet, Head, Shoulders, Torso, Waist.  If you intentionally break your vow, you immediately and permanently lose the benefits of this feat, and may not replace this with another Feat.  If you break your vow because of a magical compulsion you lose the benefits of this Feat until you perform a suitable penance and receive an atonement spell.  Opponents who cannot see you are unaffected by this Feat, so blind opponents are immune.  Effects that grant you Partial or Total Concealment, Invisibility, or a percentile chance to miss you negate the bonuses from this Feat while they're in effect.

Oooooh boy! Our party "face" is going to be an avowed nudist! This should be fun!  :lmao

You know the Vow Feats the made for Vile Darkness and Exalted?  Well I made some parody feats for Chaos.  I'm specifically considering these two:
...

I don't have anything against nudity, but +2 to DCs, +8 AC and -2 to other's attack rolls for a feat and an half and some minor drawbacks is kinda too much for my tastes.

Any thoughts on how you'd rework it?  I can increase the restrictions.

It's sort of the Chaos version of vow of poverty

Disclaimer: I'm not really a fan of the whole vow of poverty thing. Lots of suposed drawbacks for lots of suposed benefits from a single feat is a nightmare to get right. Doubly so because I then would need a pretty big excuse for not applying it to every big "naked" monster you may find out there.

I may allow a lesser version, like you know, all the other vows that aren't poverty. Some drawbacks for some bonus.

-Gain luck bonus to AC equal to 1/4 your HD and permanent endure elements.
-Cannot use torso items (vests, armor).
-The first time  each ecounter you try to affect someone with a mind-affecting anything,  the DC (if any) increases by 1, but any later atempts on the same ecounter don't gain that bonus for at least 1 hour because the suprise effect is gone.

Post by: bhu on May 17, 2012, 01:48:13 PM
I limited the Save DC effect to Fascination because of peoples tendency to stare at teh naked.   :D

How bout i switch the -2 penalty to concentration checks?

I'm still not allowing a feat that grants a permanent bonus to AC equal to your HD, regardless of other bonus/penalties attached to it.

Well for convenience's sake let's make Slut be kicked right into the middle of the party right? Totally random. Or perhaps some cunning plan the nature of which you'll only learn much later. Perhaps both, you never know with demons.

I'll leave the details with Bhu to make with his first post in the IC thread, up to him if it's a portal that opens up in thin air  and you can see a Balor kick him trough it or something more exotic.

I'd like to wait till night for sure, then we can either all try to sneak in somehow, or a group of us can sneak in and open the gates for the rest (and turn some of their troops to our side in the process via Charm/Dominate/etc). I'd rather not openly assault a walled-city...
Title: Re: OOC thread
Post by: Flay Crimsonwind on June 20, 2012, 01:50:36 AM
Night would be excellent. The city folk will be tired, better to scare, makes it more dramatic when there are fires. I don't see how monsters lose by attacking during the night. I personally would love to burrow up to the temple and start off by disintegrating some significant piece of it.

Which is definitely something I'm considering. I'm a powerhouse with my natural attacks, true, but unburrowing to let lose fire or destruction and slipping into the ground is a great way to split their forces and send them chasing frantically. I can disappear underground, removing some portion from the fight, to emerge where I please (probably undetected) breathing away again.

Title: Re: OOC thread

Movement isnt a problem.  I can fly and use Ethereal Jaunt and Teleport twice a day.  Offensively I'm limited to Charm Monster 1/day and some fairly ineffective claws compared to what the rest of you do.  However if i successfully feint i can give an opponent a -9 to AC, I have a permanent Sanctuary effect, and I can energy drain them in a grapple.

Plus my bodily fluids sans blood are addictive, but that wont do much in a bloody melee.

Hence I am best used as a tag team with someone who melees.
Title: Re: OOC thread

Title: Re: OOC thread
Post by: VennDygrem on August 22, 2012, 11:51:19 PM
There is no party leader. We were selected seemingly randomly by the overlord without setting anything like that up. Besides, we're a roving band of monsters. Rarely is there a true leader among monsters. :P

As far as our needs go, Meveri might fit the bill the most since she's got a mind for order and achieving goals, and a strong will and sense of determination. Given that, I've been on the fence about the alignment I chose for her since it doesn't always fit, but I couldn't think of what would be most appropriate.  I think with her sufficiently high Int-Cha ratio and aforementioned personality traits, she's the most likely candidate who would even want or take the role.

Don't forget, Osle does Initiative a little differently: We all roll initiative, and if any of our initiatives beats the other side's highest initiative score, we go first. If not, then they go first. That way, when it's your team's turn in the round, you don't need to wait for someone else to post before you can.

----------------------
I don't know what other way I can say it, but we can stop rolling initiatives, guys. We already won initiative,  and we can all go ahead and act now.

Unless otherwise noticed, damage listed doesn't accout for your DR. I did forgot to roll the miss chance, but kinda moot point now since  you have enough DR to stop it in this situation.

Also the only halfling near you is asleep by Tenth's sting, so not sure if you want to full attack him.

Whoops. Forgot about that. I'll charge the one nearby on the top of the wall, then. Grimtooth has pounce from his barbarian level. So he'd get a +2 to hit, -2 to AC. Other than that, nothing would change.

I look around for some havoc to cause.  WHere is this large unknown building?

The one nearby Rao when he emerged? Roughly ~800 feet from your position.

However there's another pretty large building just 100 feet from Slut's current position, just to the right side of the  map.

Question: does Meveri's silencing aura make it so she can only hear via telepathy? Or if I bellow, could she possibly hear me? Just trying to decide if I should bother trying to relay through Tenth or not.
Title: Re: OOC thread
Post by: VennDygrem on October 10, 2012, 09:13:11 AM
I don't really have a silencing aura. Things I do are silent, so if I drop a ballista it won't make a sound when it drops. My aura sort of garbles speech or makes it not leave people's throats/mouths, but if you're outside of its radius you can still be heard. In fact, since I'm in the ground, I get a bonus to listen checks since sound travels through it so well, according to the incorporeality rules. So if you bellow, I'll definitely hear it.

Actually, after reviewing things, it looks like I've yet to actually act this round... I think I confused my last round's actions for this one's. Oops.  :blush

Osle, will there be any way to tell if the bell music is actually renewing the troops, or if you're just using it as a dramatic setpiece? Because I'm pretty sure the church is a long way away and I don't want to fly all the way there just to find out you only started it up so you could justify using epic battle music. :P

I think the key part is mechanically renewing the troops, versus fluff raising spirits and renewing the will to fight but not actually doing anything via mechanics.

Ok guys, if Rao is heading to take care of the bell, should I really bother? I'm pretty sure he's closer. If I 'run' I can make it nearly half the distance in one round, though it would take me three total just to get there and then also time to stop it. Thoughts?

No, just regular DR applies.

Well, you specifically said the militia, which I believe guys in full golden armor don't count. :p

But good point in the reach, simple villagers of this area wouldn't know that hydras are aoo-rape machines so they would move closer and now you could unleash your 8 heads on them (and also means I don't need to upload a new map just for this).

Gah, so hard to keep track of everything.

Gonna take a move action toward Yurgret, then cast Manyjaws at the griffon.  If the jaws get there this round, damage (Ref DC 18 for half damage):

Manyjaws 8d4 : 4, 2, 3, 4, 2, 3, 4, 4, total 26

For following rounds, if the griffon goes down, redirecting them to its rider.

What material is the floor of the bell tower, and what kind of reaction would it have with a wall of flame or cone breath attack?
Title: Re: OOC thread
Post by: oslecamo on February 08, 2013, 08:01:29 PM
Floor is made of wood. It would take extra damage from fire but not necessarily burn away instantly since it's solid construction. Your breah has a much better chance of blowing a clean hole right away than the wall of fire.

AoO against the veteran: 1d20+9=29, 3d6+1d6+23=38 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4085699/). Whoo! Crit! Additional crit damage: 6d6+46=64 (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4085701/). X3 critical multiplier is nice, total of 102 damage for 9d6+1d6 cold+69 on the AoO.

How high up is Rothul Shuh or his mount? If I were to climb up on the roof of that nearby house with my 15' reach and height, could I attack him or the Griffon mount?

So, when you say "heavily injured charging them", does that include my Break Ranks ability?

Quote
Break Ranks: At second level, if an ogre charges and sucessfully hits his target, he may keep charging forward in a straight line while he has movement left, and attack any new enemy on his path. If it hits it, he can then keep charging forward again. The Ogre doesn't provoke attacks of oportunity for this movement from oponents he already hit.

More or less, if I were to charge through the line, how many AoOs would I suffer since those I hit can't AoO me, and I have reach. I imagine those to my sides would still get them, the way the ability is worded, but I'm also Huge size.

Also, apparently I need to take levels in War Hulk...

Yurgret waits for the dragon to weaken the line before charging in, knowing it would be a foolish waste as the goblins would quickly follow him and die pointlessly. Instead, he stops just outside their reach, brandishes his giant axe, and bellows to cow the defenders.

Grimtooth is currently in the form of a giant bat, and normally uses a club covered in fangs as a weapon. So he definitely didn't stab anyone with a sword. :P It's all good, though. Hard to keep up with everything when a game moves as slowly as this one has.

So Grimtooth's master is a Master Vampire, right? Which means he can enslave other vampires up to his CR-2? Maybe he should create some spawn and leave them here to rule over these halflings?  :D Although I guess we could leave them under the "care" of the goblins.

Either way, he will also slake his thirst (i.e. replenish his blood pool) before our "heroes" move on from this place.
Title: Re: OOC thread

Yeah, Grimtooth's "true" boss is a Vampire Lord, and you can create a bunch of spawns.

Notice you can also create spawns and then release them out of your control later if spreading chaos is your thing.

Is it possible to reach the mayor and mock him?

Double move action to reach, free to mock, sure go ahead.

Since the beginning of our game was on the other boards (IIRC), I forget exactly what our purpose was... I know we were supposed to be looking for one or more "artefacts", and that we were also just supposed to cause chaos and rampage in our master's name. Were we attacking the Order of Truth for a specific reason, though? Or did they just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time? :P And what were the artefact(s) that we're after, anyway? :P

And you were also given a map pointing the way. This city happenned to be on your direct path.

EDIT: Remember tough that Kristof's chief advisor clarified to you that corrupting the locals instead of killing them, or simply being subtle, are also perfectly viable strategies. As long as you get the artifact and bring it back. :p

Personally, I think throwing everything we pass through into hard-labor-slavery to goblins and the like to be a valid choice :P

Yeah, sure. And the goblins will enjoy it, too. (At least until the Order of Truth "cavalry" comes back :P ).

As long as they do it before we return, we can kill them off and burn the entire city to the ground at that point!

My work schedule coupled with a wealth of fun (sarcastic use of fun there) has pretty much killed any amount of time I spend online anymore. With that in mind, I am stepping out (or down, whichever the case may be) of every game I am currently involved in, including this one.

If any of you know folk from the other games I'm involved in, and I haven't copy/pasted this into the OOC thread for that game, please let them know. I'll only be stepping out of this site for an undetermined amount of time; I simply don't have the time to keep up with and compose messages for the games I'm in. Which sucks, because as you all might have picked up from the number of games I dive into, I enjoy pbp. So hopefully I'll be back soon.
So this is a thing. I suppose this doesn't fall at a bad time, since we just took a city. There are a wealth of things that Rao could get up to; he's a doll to play, but I simply don't have the time to give my little engine of destruction. Sorry, all; it's been fun.

We still have enough PCs to keep this going... even without SirP and Flay. How about we move on? I was enjoying it. :D

I say we just push on towards our destination (the town with the artifact... I looked up the name in the old plothook thread earlier... but I forgot it...). We'll leave my new minion and the goblins here to keep things... under control. :P (We could also say that the now-defunct PCs stay here as well.)

That sounds like the right course of action. My character isn't really much of a leader, despite her main stat being Charisma, otherwise I might have piped up. Plus, she's known for being silent. :)

I think Yurgret is the only one who could actually use the pure gold breastplate... but it's probably too small for him.  :eh Any of the rest of the pieces would be fine with me.

Yeah, either the bracers or armor coating would be useful for Meveri, not much else. I won't really be too upset if everyone else splits the magic items, even, since they're generally not too needed.

I'll take the gold armor, but unless it's magical (can't remember) it won't resize to fit me...

It's definitely not magical... It's like the anti-thesis of magical. :P It's from Osle's "Pure Crafting" homebrew, which is meant to provide an alternative to using magic, basically.

Do we need a healer?  It would be more optimal possibly to become a cleric with my next level due to a racial ability.

My cohort/weapon is actually a cleric. So we don't really need one, but if you want to be one it sure doesn't hurt to have another.

I don't know if you guys are looking for a replacement for Flay/SirP, but I had a cool character idea, if you're willing:

Anthro-Animal (http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=532.0) 2 / Pseudonatural Creature (http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=7452.0) 4 / Mawkin (http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=7753.0) 2

Whaddaya think?

Sounds like a really scary character. I remember liking the Mawkin. I'm all for it.

Edit: Now I remember thinking it was a tad weak, and looking it over I agree, up until the point where it gets Lurking Shadows. Allowing Extra Rage and Extend Rage (or homebrewed feat equivalents) to apply to its Mawkin/Nightmare forms would help. The # of uses and duration on those is kind of low. Also, if you could use Instantaneous Rage (or an equivalent) to use Mawkin/Nightmare forms with lesser actions (or maybe dip Factotum) it would also be a big help.

There's no ability called "Lurking Shadows," but there are enough other abilities with one of those two words in it that I'm not sure which one you meant. :lol

Any of that is fine with me (and I posted your comments into the Mawkin thread as well, in case sirp has an opinion). I'm waiting on building this guy until I get a thumbs-up from Osle.

Looks good, but if you intend to take more Mawkin levels, I'll have to nerf the stat bonus from Mawkin Form +4 Str, +2 Con and +2 Nat armor (no Dex penalty tough).

For my part, the benefit of being selectively incorporeal is I can hang on to one of them but not weigh them down at all or take up any space. :D

The main thing is tracking him. If we can keep track of him, we can still take him out.

Alright, my plan is to break from the group and silently come up behind him, then turn his mount incorporeal so he suddenly falls to the ground. I'll have to do the same "flying run" to catch up to him, though, and there's no saying how long the mount's speed reduction will last.
--edit--
...or not.
Title: Re: OOC thread
Post by: VennDygrem on June 03, 2014, 10:58:25 PM
So, should we just wait to see if he splats, taking the chance that he's got some ace in the hole, or should we attack him?
Title: Re: OOC thread
Post by: McPoyo on June 04, 2014, 07:43:05 AM
I fully intend to grapple his ass and ridr him to the ground. I weigh a ton and a half, Iirc, so he'll be taking max fall damage regardless :p

...and then I get a tasty snack.
Title: Re: OOC thread
Post by: VennDygrem on June 04, 2014, 06:09:13 PM
I could ride down with you, then turn you incorporeal just in time so you don't take any damage, unless you were hoping to simply add your mass to the crushing of his bones on impact. :D

I don't even remember what we were supposed to be after/doing... Isn't there some artifact, that was stolen from the Magedom by the Order of Light, that we were supposed to steal/take? Do we know what this item is?

I wonder how fanatical the Tomb Legion is. Maybe we could try and convert them to follow Kristoff. Any diplomacy experts with us? At least there won't be a cap on how far they can rise politically (unless Kristoff himself feels threatened by them). :P

More like liberating them from free will and the weaknesses of the flesh. The Magedom has a strong philosophy of  " if you won't play alongside us while alive, then you will do so after being dead". :p

Yes. You even have a map pointing its location. It's still a bit away from this city.

Altough if you want to defect/convert with the magedom, that's up to you. Kristoff's too lazy for having planted sigil bombs in the back of your heads in case you tried to divert from his orders. :P
