Homebrew and House Rules (D&D) / Re: Combat Focus
« on: October 26, 2017, 05:38:28 PM »
Adjacent enemies and allies?  Perhaps a melee weapon enhancement can increase that range since the weapon is acting as an extension of you?  So while holding the enhanced weapon (or probably better yet, this weapon must be the one you make your attack with to gain Combat Focus) you get +5 foot range on the Combat Awareness abilities to discern enemy and ally HP, then at +16 BAB that effect goes to +10 feet range and the Blindsight increases by +5 feet.

Unless doing something with the weapon's reach would be better?

Would that be a +1 ability of some sort?

And the slightly odd phrasing is direct from PHBII. So blame WotC for that one.

I was thinking +1 for the extra range.  An augmented version that gives the character attack or damage bonuses while they're focused would also work.  Maybe the bonus is based on the number of Focus feats or are tiered based on BAB, something like that.

Soulknife feat:

Mind Dagger Subtlety
Prereqs:
Mind Daggers (see http://therafimrpg.wikidot.com/mind-daggers)
Flick of the Wrist (Complete Warrior, Races of the Wild)
BAB+X (somewhere 8 to 11)
Quick Draw feat

Benefit: Your training with mind daggers has allowed you to freely form and unform them as you attack, allowing you to catch your enemies by surprise.  You may form your mind dagger as many times per round as you have attacks available and at any time, including as you are attacking.  Forming a mind dagger more than once in a round no longer accrues the enhancement bonus penalty from Mind Daggers.  Forming a mind dagger while attacking counts as drawing a hidden weapon for the purposes of effects such as Flick of the Wrist and Iaijutsu Focus.  You may also unform your mind dagger at any time.

Probably needs the wording cleaned up like usual on my first cut homebrew feats.

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Re: Soul Bow and making it a cool archer

To work on more of the wisdom focus, see http://minmaxforum.com/index.php?topic=4369 to find some things that can be helpful.  The usual way Soulbows stick with wisdom is through the Zen Archery feat.

If Swordsage catches your eye for its wisdom synergy then you'll want to look at http://minmaxforum.com/index.php?topic=11233 to see which maneuvers work with ranged weapons.

What sorts of alternate class features are available to you?  Wizards has some online articles such as http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20070214a that expand on certain classes.  In the case of a soulknife, they give an option to trade Psychic Strike for a feat at the levels you'd normally get PS.  Considering the move action needed to get PS going compared to the damage boosts available from the feats, it's almost universally better to get the feats.

For other ACFs that aren't found in Dragon magazine, see http://minmaxforum.com/index.php?topic=8732.

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Re: [3.5] Swordsage feat chains
« on: October 23, 2017, 01:36:39 AM »
Thirding the spiked chain suggestion.  It's the most direct way to do a decent Dex-based 2-handed swordsage.  If dipping into fighter there's a nice ACF in Drow of the Underdark (see page 58), but it'll be up to your DM on whether to allow it since it's arguable that the ACF was meant specifically for Drow.  The ACF is gain +2 initiative and Dex to damage against flat-footed enemies, lose heavy armor and tower shield proficiency.  Quite a good trade.

Note that if you're going Diamond Mind then the level 1 maneuver Sapphire Nightmare Blade will make them flat-footed against the attack if you succeed on the Concentration check against their AC.  Easy way to get a bit more damage since skill checks tend to be much easier to scale than AC.

The 6th level Shadow Hand maneuver Ghost Blade does this without needing the skill check but doesn't have the 1d6 added damage.  Which means it really should just be a 1st or 2nd level maneuver.

Fixed.  Also fixed "Dread Fang of Loth" missing an L in both mentions.

Huh, I noticed the MMB site was down, but didn't think much of it until tonight when I searched for it and found that GitP thread which then brought me here.  Good stuff getting it back up!

Hello everyone!

Now to make backups of all my stuff (and I should probably see what I can update).

Got all three Mass Effects for something like $15.  2 was free through Origin for a month, then I waited until I could get 1 and 3 at discounts.

Took me roughly 10 download and install tries to actually get Mass Effect 1 working.  The first time I downloaded it, it installed, and then it said I still needed to install so I installed again and it still kept saying I needed to install so I tried some other things here and there and what eventually got it working was changing the install directory and running Origin in both XP SP3 compatibility mode and admin mode too.

So far it's been nice to play, though there are definitely graphics and voice/dialog oddities that have me scratching my head.  Took a bit to get started with combat because I'm not used to squad-based stuff and I'm wondering if it might just be better to have me be the frontliner while my team is support.

I'm inclined to have a moment of silence for the father of rock n roll.

Woohoo, I have a job interview tomorrow!  Alas, it's at the location furthest from me that I applied for, but I'll take what I can get.

Or there are the premade word options like in Pokemon at times where you could only string together four words/phrases and show it before battle.  Didn't keep people from doing stuff like "Your mother so rank I've fainted" though.
