3.p Spot the sun rules * answered *

i was needing the rules (or thread) for the discussion on not being able to see the sun, which turned out to have a rule talking about radius?

i was needing it for PF if anyone knows that. but figured the 3.x version would help reverse engineer it.

AFAIK, the 3.5 rules are that you automatically see it because it isn't Hiding. There's a rule for max distance of Spot checks (highest is 6d6 x 40 ft. for plains), but that's for "detecting the nearby presence of others".

Spot check can be used for more than finding hidden creatures (that's just primarily what it is used for), and D&D doesn't let people see forever.  Stormwrack has rules on spotting objects from long distance.
