His name was Yekoj. At the time he wrote the 2 wizard handbooks, 2002??, 3.5 was not out yet and he used all the 3.0 splatbooks and the few F.R. sourcebooks that were out at the time. Snow Savant and I played some PbEM D&D with him. Yekoj was smart, inventive and tactically proficient a player as I'd ever gamed with at the time.
I think he disappeared shortly after writing them. So the updating process never got to happen - which is a shame, because once 3.5 was published, a torrent of amazing WotC sourcebooks followed that heavily influenced us all.
Regardless, his handbooks (he also had a druid handbook and a bard one too, IIRC) set the standard for modern day 3.5 optimization handbooks.
