Min/Max 3.x / Re: Epic Gestalt Character Help
« on: November 17, 2020, 08:06:16 PM »
Few quick questions:
1) Are mythal seed epic spells on the table?  If so, game changer.
2) Are NODES on the table?  Also game changer.
3) Going for a gish?  Are you opposed to psionics, if so?
4) If keeping arcane, are you familiar with the Swiftblade?

I can break this wide open, especially at 25th level gestalt, if you're wanting something that can curbstomp deities when they take the kid gloves off (and do so 10 levels earlier at that, non-gestalt).  Just let me know how far down this rabbit hole you want/need to go :)

On the second question, a sufficiently high caster level can move -anything- >.>

Let me know specifically what you're wanting to do with nodes, as it's one of my favorite (ab)uses for high CL/ML :)

Heh, so being a valid target for Clone is just a happy side effect :P

A question elsewhere led me to look at the truenamer prestige classes. I noticed Fiendbinder's requirements
Alignment: Any nongood
Skills: Knowledge (the planes) 10 ranks, Speak Language
(Abyssal), Speak Language (Infernal), Truespeak 10 ranks
Spells: Ability to cast summon monster IV

The writing on typical entry indicates this is indeed not for Truenamers, but for casters with Truespeak ranks, so that's not jank (even if it wouldn't be out of character for 2/3rds of Tome of Magic...). What looks like jank to me is it's a full length prestige class you can't qualify for till level 9 (8 if there's some way to get truespeak as a class skill without a dip). Is there a non-epic prestige class that takes as long or longer to qualify for and has 10(+?) levels?

The one from ToB that gives you double turns, and Focluchan Lyrist are both enter at 11 10 level PrCs, I believe?

Fire Seeds... an odd blasting spell, and requires quite a bit of preparation to use, but if you can get it to work, adding the Warmage's Edge damage to all 8 Holly Berry's is a very effective use of the feature! Even if I'm not actually sure it works from a rules perceptive. Same goes for the Tentacle range of spells, I'm not sure if Warmage's Edge extra damage would apply to them or not, as your creating something that does damage, rather than directly doing damage with a spell.

Boreal Wind probably needs to be directed carefully, as it affections friend and foe alike, and it hasn't got the widest range... buuuuut, it does have Long Range, and it starts from you and goes all the way out to full range.... it could probably serve as a rather effective anti-army spell with only a 4th, or more likely, 5th level spell slot. Especially in a narrow place like a mountain path.

As for uncapping... most people got for Reserves of Strength, I don't know if Elder Giant Magic works for that purpose.

RoS is what I was thinking of - wrote that after being up for like 18 hours and a long shift  :banghead

Don't forget to uncap your lower level spells.  I'm away from the desk, but one of my favorite go-to combos is (I think this is it to uncap it) Elder Giant Magic + Sculpt Spell + Widen Spell + Hail of Stone to play "Rocks fall, everyone dies" to everyone within a 40' radius.  Combine with some of the trademark CL boosters for ridiculously high damage from a level 1 spell slot, or chain it (or stick 3 of them in a tryptic, in a matrix, and chain THAT) for an army killer.

Snowcast it to give it (Cold) subtype, and then admixture or sub to acid, and it makes for great demolition as well (or sonic if using the older version of Energy Substitution).

Your best friend for force multipliers is Incantatrix, by far.  Giving up a school of magic is trivial, as you technically don't have them - you have a set list that you know from level 1.

I believe there was a similar setup in one of the low level builds threads for E6 - the E6 Macross Missle Massacre if you will.

I will also add (and might require using Eclectic Learning or a feat, as I can't recall if it's even ON their spell list) that Telekinesis or Chained Telekinesis on a bunch of greatswords with Warmage Edge can result in a nasty pile of stab even more so than doing it as a wizard, but that's likely overkill :P

Control Body on yourself lets you use your Int for attack and damage, as well (the move by wire trick) :)

How about this:

Vanilla build minus the Node is still a 9th level power manifester with native 4 iteratives, and every psionic trick you could ever want.  If your DM is down with a high powered game (or regardless once you're high level), Node away on a demiplane and enjoy unrivaled nova capability.  You are a full powered, full Speed Force using Flash that can exist outside of the time stream.

So quick question: who here plays Forge of Empires, specifically on US servers?

And if you REALLY want to go down the rabbit hole of quirky yet covering many roles (this time ALL ON TURN ZERO), ask about some of MMB's more refined psionic dishes.  My personal jewel uses Endarire's Hood principle on a psionic gish chassis that is capable of taking on the 10x100 challenge, the gish challenge (where you have to 1v1 a Hechatoncheires), and the Twice Betrayer of Shar challenge - all in the same day even if it wants to!

Possible roles:
- Primary melee.  You're a Hood/Dragoon - enemies fear your spear.
- Primary caster.  You have a manifester level that makes epic dragons wet their scales and the TBS become a commoner with feats.
- Primary scout.  Hard to beat instant movement options galore, never surprised, never DOESN'T go first.
- Primary damage.  While not built JUST for it, you have several very good blasting options, and SR/PR is a moot point.
- Primary "acquisitions".  Who needs a rogue for stealing McGuffins?  You can scry and steal with retrieve.  If you can see it, it's yours.
- Primary healer.  Well, not exactly, but between taking someone out of the time stream if they're about to die, to outright rewinding time, your preventative measures are second to none.
- Primary tank.  Entirely optional, but super high ML vigor means your HP total makes the barb cry, especially combined with your AC and even DR buffing capability.  Draw aggro and let the other team members have some fun!
- Primary transport.  Your schtick is teleporting.  You've got this.

Let me know if you want more details!

One of my reliable indicators of Agit Prop Volume success, went off.

To counter, here's an actual science based approach :

... still, not exactly good news.

ADM, I recall you mentioning you're on Linux.  Have you ever thought about using something like TAILS to bypass the weenie filter, or is it at the ISP level?  Even so, a nice locked down VPN might do wonders if you're not on one already.  Figured I'd ask!

I have reached a new level of trying to contain the nonstop stress from gaslighting ignorance that I am once again self-medicating as above.  I swear, the next one that pops off is going to get the A Cookbook's version of "gaslighting"  :shakefist :shakefist :shakefist :banghead :banghead :banghead

Kinda figured that was the whole point of the Living Machine option, but I'd have to look at the specific wording.

Chameleon emulating an arcane caster is Int based as I recall.

One small hitch is
A modification can only be performed while the construct is inanimate or nonfunctioning.
A pair of wyrwood wizards could do it to eachother, but not to themselves.

Less cheesy is using this on a Clocksmith's familiar to make a crazy strong mauler familiar.

So modify your own clone then off yourself?  Rinse repeat ad nauseum for NI stats?

I'm inclined to recommend the Bard regardless simply because his party buff style with a bit of Inspire Courage optimization allows you to make what are likely underpowered characters much more capable at their jobs. Bard + Sublime Chord + Virtuoso is an easy enough trick. Not too crazy, but still a potent character, and with the right build can double as a backup archer and skill monkey.

Factotum is also an obvious pick if you just want to fill as many roles as possible.

Oh, glad you mentioned this one, Power!  I'll edit it into this post, but I have a Bardzilla build using Sublime Chord and Lyric Thaumaturge that would do just fine at range as well (it gets Fire Shuriken and a massive Inspire Courage - cast during downtime and either fling by hand or even better, by Telekinesis).  All the usual tricks for melee bards, you've got plenty of skills, you're great at range, you're great at buffing and if you pick the right spells, debuff/crowd control, and finally you're a stellar party face.  Hell, between umpteen skill points bard builds tend to have and a couple spells, you could even pull off the sneaking part - almost a one man party.

Love the user name - my cat is named Deicide :D

Have you considered psionics at all?  Even a tame version of my Chrono-Trancer can fulfill all of the above easily.  Also, have a look into Malconvoker, or at least a summoning-focused Wizard.  You can even Gish it up if you pick up Divine Power (usually via Arcane Disciple).

There's also an Unseen Seer build floating around that ticks off all three of those (skill monkey/sneak as you're basically a super-magical assassin with high Int, ranged via spells, arcane caster primary), and with the right defensive buffs, you'd be nearly unhittable in melee (mirror image, displacement, etc).  Gets 16-17 BAB by 20, and 9th level Wizard casting.

EDIT: Found it!

Factotum 1/Wizard 4/Unseen Seer 4/Abjurant Champion 5/Eldritch Knight 6

Play as a changeling.  This gets 9's and 4 iteratives naturally, as well, and if I recall, has the BAB to swing to drop a point, opening up 4 levels of Spellwarp Sniper in place of EK.  That allows you to nab up to 4th level pewpew from otherwise non-RTA spells (my usual go-to is something at least range medium, and ironically the much maligned Fireball works great for sniping with range-long, as long as you can change the energy type to something non-resistable, such as through Elven Spell Lore).

SWS optional of course, or if you really want to go over the top, see about getting 3+ levels of Incantatrix for insta-persist.

For reference, how old is the kid you took in? :???

Same age as our youngest approximately - 17.  Her mother is two states away and almost unreachable, and her father doesn't even have a place - he approved as well and is over regularly.  Basically she was put in a situation where it was either interrupt her schooling and try to find her mother in CO, or find someplace local to finish the year.  Her dad was on board, we'd always told both of them they are welcome here, so we took her in.

the thing that stands out to me is Fiancee

basically its an adult who has a relationship w. your advanced gf. so not a lot of room for your input, that would be well received.... imo

also, factor the crazy in for the long term.... my harsh 2c is jump ship... the crazy wont just 'get better'

Fiancee is a legal term in this case - we've been together for 13 years, were married, divorced, realized we still wanted to be together, and here we are.
