Gaming Advice / recruitment section?
« on: May 19, 2020, 01:08:57 PM »
i'm looking to possibly recruit people for a Return of the Runelords 1e game every other Tuesday nights @ ~6pm Mountain Standard Time.

it's not very RP heavy... mostly a fairly standard run-through, just lost a couple people and haven't found any takers on a more local level.

i can't seem to see an option in another thread. sooo.... here you go :-p

Wyrwood + Ability Score Modification + Hedge Magician = 807 Int at 20th level with standard WBL.

+ Idealize + Fox's Cunning + Alternate Capstone = 20th wizard with 823 Int

You can apply the body mods to all of your ability scores, but Con. But if you take the Living Machine alternate racial trait, you can do it to your Con too.

General D&D Discussion / PF Bard Countersong Conundrum
« on: July 26, 2019, 02:03:20 AM »
Earlier tonight, we had a heated debate on how a Bard's countersong actually works. There seems to be 2 different stages, and the 2nd is fairly clear cut. It was the initial part that caused the discussion.

Quote from: Core Rulebook v6 Lite
Countersong (Su): At 1st level, a bard learns to counter magic effects that depend on sound (but not spells that have verbal components). Each round of the countersong he makes a Perform (keyboard, percussion, wind, string, or sing) skill check. Any creature within 30 feet of the bard (including the bard himself ) that is affected by a sonic or language-dependent magical attack may use the bard’s Perform check result in place of its saving throw if, after the saving throw is rolled, the Perform check result proves to be higher. If a creature within range of the countersong is already under the effect of a noninstantaneous sonic or language-dependent magical attack, it gains another saving throw against the effect each round it hears the countersong, but it must use the bard’s Perform skill check result for the save. Countersong does not work on effects that don’t allow saves. Countersong relies on audible components.

Person 1: Believes that the effect is similar to a reroll.
Where, you use the better roll, regardless of a natural 1 (on either die, since a natural 1 doesn't auto-fail a skill check). Referenced the Fortune Hex, despite not having the same language.

Person 2: Believes that the effect is not a reroll.
You roll the die and add your bonuses. Use the final result as your total or the Perform total. But the die roll does matter when it involves a natural 1, since that is an auto-fail regardless of the total. This is because the ability mentions using the result, not the Perform die roll.

What are your opinions on how it works, and why you think so.

General D&D Discussion / PF Occult Rituals [found]
« on: April 30, 2019, 02:02:32 PM »
I remember something that lets you cast (Occult) Rituals solo.

Not sure if its a feat, archetype, whatever. By d20PFSRD-fu and Nethys-fu are failing me.

It's possible it was in the Wayfinder series, which i'll manually recheck.

Update... found it, the Speaker of the Palatine Eye Bard archetype 19th level.

i was needing the rules (or thread) for the discussion on not being able to see the sun, which turned out to have a rule talking about radius?

i was needing it for PF if anyone knows that. but figured the 3.x version would help reverse engineer it.

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / PF Archetype Ratings?
« on: March 24, 2018, 04:15:11 AM »
Beyond the traditional class handbooks and one archetype tier list, is there anywhere that has archetypes rated based on power (or whatever)?

There's quite a few archetypes that are missed on many of the handbooks, because they haven't been touched in a half decade. And I was curious as to other peoples' views on their power levels.

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / back into 3.x

I'm trying to shake off the rust and get back into 3.x after doing PF for the last.... who knows how long.

Anyone know of a more recent text on acquired vs. inherited templates in reference to when they can be applied.

Here's all I found so far...

Some templates can be added to creatures at any time. A
monster or character may become a ghost after death. A
spellcaster of at least 11th level can become a lich. A crea-
ture with 5 or more HD killed by a vampire may become a
vampire. Such templates are called acquired templates.
Other templates, such as the celestial, fiendish, half-celes-
tial, half-dragon, and half-fiend, assume that the crea-
ture or character was born with the changes indi-
cated. Templates such as these are called inherited
templates. It’s possible for a template to be of either
type. For example, lycanthropy can afflict anyone
the template description allows at any point, but
some creatures are born lycanthropes."

Gaming Advice / ARK video card help
« on: September 18, 2016, 02:57:41 AM »
Anyone try ARK?

I found out my computer didn't have a separate video card, so was unable to play.

I bought a Ndivia 730 cuz it was inexpensive and good reviews. It arrives Monday.

Obviously, it's a cheaper video card and I don't expect amazing graphics, I just want to play. But the guys trying to help on Steam were like tearing me apart for buying this card.

Was this the wrong choice? I'm not spending a bunch on a card, I just don't have the $.

Any recommendations, like try to return it to Amazon for a better inexpensive one? Or just ignore them?

P.S. I don't know much about computer specs and performance stuff
