"... everything Bane arrows ... "

Yeah.  That one has some history.  Non-c.o. thought it was borkt enough, to warrant it's own warning in the various early Artificer handbooks.  I think the version 3.0 guide (as in not 3.0e but 3rd version of 3.5e arty, probable confusion was intentional and never fixed 12 years later, my kitty avatar can handle) (ahem) ... still has that bit in there.  Bane all the time doesn't change an Arty's tier at all, whichever interpretation you're using.  It'd be like having a Recharge Wilder but on 1 power only , And  you wouldn't pick Metamorph or Schism or Dominate or Anyspell or ...

Reads more closely = ahh right , nope.

Still , quite near a Warlock if you plan around the random well enough.
Heal nova and Buff nova, are do able.
Move the Combat "nova" to wands, gish it up,
some bfc is harmless out of combat.

Somebody at giantitp did a whole spread sheet of armors for the best cost + function.
Of course I forgot to link/bookmark it, and it's quite complicated.

I'd bet the dreamscarred guys build series, include when
to get on time the appropriate PHB2 schedule magic weapon.
Personally I prefer lagging that schedule for a golf bag

I'm not a fan of taking Craft Arms+Armor right at 5th level.
PsyRef allows it at effectively no cost at level 7.
But such a 'tude contributes to more caster supremacy.

Shield of the Mage = wow
Make a scroll with CL 5, and trigger the Shield for the spell.
Then psicraft check it, as to what the spell is.
Decide to probably write it into the spellbook.
Repeat
Profit

Ah that sucks  :(

Where would life be, without at least a little X-mas Family drama.

Killmonger specialized in destabilizing big G and little g governments.
Do it for the "good guys" and it's good.
Do it for the "bad guys" and it's bad.
Anarchist just want him to do it, regardless of outcome.
Some Internationalists don't want him to do it, also regardless of outcome.

I go to the men's room.

Dude is 2 hand texting while doing his business.
I finish.
His pants drop.
He turns to catch them and drops his phone into the urinal.
Ahhhh !
He immediately fishes it out, re-dropping his pants.
Ugghhh !
I'm aware now he's as drunk as a person can be and still be roughly mobile.
He tries to re- pick up his pants, re-dropping the phone right back into the urinal.
Oooo-ooo !
I'm about to leave and evil aDMg perches on my shoulder.
Hey ... your mom is an idiot too.
Arrrrr !!!
While the door is closing, dude lunges but trips on his pants, falls.
Smack.  Phone skitters across the tile floor.
He dog whines like he needs to be let in from outdoors, for the effectively same reason.
Door closes.
I walk off ... Louis Armstrong's What A Wonderful World piped in the background.

end scene

"It's easy to forget that the Beast Master can get something like a sidekick in addition to a beast companion. The new option is additive; it doesn't replace the beast companion. And a DM might allow the beast companion to take the warrior class."

Not exactly a tweet-rata.

Oops, crossfired Action Surge with Second Wind. Yeah.
So ... Warrior is preferable to Fighter at 1 + 1/2 levels (wink).

Warlock is definitely the most changed of the casters.
But massive reduction of their Short Rest advantages.

Wilb - not sure how a Chainlock is supposed to happen,
but Volo's does have the Gazer box CL 3 thingy.

8wGremlin made this list of cr 1s :
        Modron/Tridrone/Quadron
        Vegepygmy
        Mephits
        Pixies!
        Quickling
        Phantom Warrior
        Brass/Copper Dragon Wyrmlings

Ranger Beast Master got lots of negative attention from giantitp.
As in pick another Ranger, and get a ++ BM Pet via the sidekick.
Goblin Revised Ranger Gloomstalker dip War Mage 2 with this alt BM.

hmm ... more than a few exploits available.

Friends cantrip means you're Friends right?
 ;)

CR 1s and then they gain one of the 3 classes.
CR 1s are < the CR 2s that Moon Druid 2 has been dominating with, so this is OK.
Basically way more race choices, and potential combos.

Warrior is preferable to Fighter at any number of levels.
Second Wind 1 level early, and Danger Sense > Str Save prof.
Battle Readiness > Barb 7.

Expert doesn't have Rogue's Sneak attack, but
Helpful is frontloaded Mastermind 3.
Jack makes it > at skills.
5 could will get whining about > Rogues Sneak.
Evasion without sneak+, is only where it starts to fall behind.
Inspiring Help makes Lore 5s cry.
Capstone is quite tasty, make Wiz Div 2s cry.

Spellcaster again needs line iteming comparisons.
Personally I'll bet Warlock is weaker, but the others
aren't necessarily weaker at all.
The 6 10 and 14 if in regular classes, would get lots of whining.
( ... obligatory c.o. says damage is least valuable tactic, but still)
And probably easier play style for less experienced players.

I want.
I like.

General D&D Discussion / Re: Don Quioxte, Man of La Mancha, and D&D
« on: December 15, 2018, 03:36:03 PM »

... I realized that this is the sort of story that likely inspired D&D's earliest days ...

Quest / Geas but epic level.

Sticks To Snakes with heighten, to get all the way up for Windmills To Giants.
Or maybe it's Phantasmal Force.

Sancho Panza is a double agent, carefully steering Quixote away from the town Adepts, but to preserve his life (it's a Marvel continuity thing).

the Wretched Curator feat is very tasty (though complicated).
"You can always purchase potions and scrolls of spells with the evil descriptor at a 10% discount, even if they are not normally available in a settlement because of its size or the local laws."

Almost as good as Wanderer's Diplomacy.

Quioxte is quixotic  :D  ;)

Given its position in the western corpus, it's
surprising someone hasn't tried a d&d version.

The various attempts at making a movie of it,
have run into so many problems, that that  part
is now part of the history too.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost_in_La_Mancha
and
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Man_Who_Killed_Don_Quixote
are by the same guy trying to make 1 version.
vague connection to one of the guys involved in the first

So yeah, Down Time ftw.

Incarnate Construct can get you a "free" LA+2 template in there.

Golems can be made without the frenzy problem, via abcd in one of the last DMags.  Touch hazy on the details.

Throw a dip of Totemist in to snag parts of the old king of smack ideas.
Incarnum fluff is not magic-magic or true magic, so it can be layered onto golems and work.

Pyrokineticist 1 gets a 15' fire lash. (and recrunchable)
Come on, you know that's scary, just think of me with it and ... uh-oh
Good for bfcontrol.

Hey getting squarely into Tier 3 and the Spell Casting scale , is quite the good news for what , 2/3rds of the base classes.
Faster on-ramp, but with dialed down Tiers 1. What's not to like?

Wis bard

Oh nice, something for a Duergar Ardent dual ~caster.

Is it roughly a Combat Feat is converted to a Fighter Feat?
(for purposes of 3.5 + 3.PF crossover usage)

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Re: 2E multiclassing in 3E

Level 10 exp is 45k, so it'd be Level 7 / Level 7.
Mostly linear on up to level 20 = Level 14 / Level 14.

But early game it's  Level 3 = Level 2 / Level 2.
That part would definitely help a standard Theurge,
only to fall even further behind in later levels.

Factotum 19 ability, is pretty much on that schedule,
but getting most of it earlier is clearly better.

Full Caster 14 /// * Divine Mind 14 is kinda interesting.
Lots of * Tier 5s boosted this way, is an easy fix.
Why Not?
 :)

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Re: Exoticist fighter Interpretation question?
« on: November 26, 2018, 05:34:45 PM »
Wizards get a Familiar.
Other classes can get a Familiar via the feat.
Class Feature vs. Feat.
Not the same, even though they have the same result.
w.o.t.c. has any number of abilities that do the same thing, but are named differently; and/or named the same, but do something different.
It's wotc.  It's doing what they do.

You could PHB2 Retrain the 4 exotics into some other 4 exotics.
That would take your 1 retraining slot for that level.

A specific build with 4 exotics feats, could Psychic Reformation the 4 feats into some other 4 feats along with any number of other feats.  If you were inclined to do so, you could Tear Down an entire build, and replace it with an entirely different feat stack.  But that's feats.  Retrains are debatable.  Rebuilding class abilities is much more complicated.
