"  The full rules for DnDSports will be released shortly after our next round of Playtesting.  "

Isn't clear whether this tourney is or is not actually playtesting.

Should be rather easy to critique the individual class builds for in-combat
and not much more difficult to critique/suggest things about out-of-combat.
I imagine some of the class features won't be used c.o.-ishly at all.

But video of the individual players in character and out of character
is gonna be an internet vote group(mob) decision.
Hafta ride that wave first, then  get around to working with it , -ish.

A lot of stuff going on here.

What does the rest of your party look like?
What do you want your character to do?

Some corrections are normal in a complicated build.  As a start :
Cleric 2 + one more level = Cleric 3 not Cleric 7.
Succubus is 6rhd+6la, so the Savage Species racial progression is 12 levels long, and you have to take all of it.

They're using the word "Caster" to refer to the Tele-casters / Web-casters.
Do they know that for D&D the word caster has meant caster for a REALLY long time
and picking an unspecific enough homonym to impress the tweens is really. Something.

They even used an example of Gygax doing something like this, but hey Gygax doesn't carry water with the noNoNO!!! crowd.

Checked the twitter feed and duh shouldn't have.  Stormwind fallacy popped on the first page (of course).

Would be nice to know if any of the DMs or programmers have real c.o. cred.

At least they're up front with Houserules existing, still opaque as to what.

Pre-gens eh ??
Don't have time for the videos, I know roll20 keeps the game log in their format.
Would prefer to read a transcript, the same way reading the news is far better than watching the news.

Interesting marketing campaign.

Druid and Summoning works just fine.
Some "talk" complains that Druid falls off above level 11.
Maybe.  UA for DMs got into constructing encounters.
It ~priced a mob of mooks at exactly !! the same as the various summons.
There aren't very many abilities that are one spell for one encounter.
Not bad at all.

Wiz Necromancer is probably better.
(personally I find the skeleton army too cumbersome for normal play)
Wiz Conjure isn't quite at Druid, but there's that no conc save abiilty.
I'd be willing to bet that a Wiz without enough meatshield-ing
... perhaps like your 4 players + limited team tactics ...
would work out better than Druid summons.
Wiz in general has Simulacrum (but so do Arcana Cleric and Bard)
and that's probably better than anything.  Glyph of warding too.

Divine Soul Sorc hasn't had a fine toothed combover as to which
metamagics work best with the Cleric list.

I enjoyed handing out the dice (and the return favors) while playing Lore Bard.
It incentivised good team behavior, but still had access to decent kaboom.

Things like Fighter 1 / Bladesinger X is better when caught in combat.
Valor Bard is still a caster but again IF , the armor + combat goes better.

Goblin or Swashbuckler for Rogue 2.
Blade'lock 5 for 2nd attack on sneaks.
Hexblade or GOO especially for the telepathy.
More Lock with Sorc 3 if you need volume.

Assassin gets 9 and 13 abilities that are
exactly what Actor wants.  Mostly out-of-combat.

Hat or Shard or wtf in Xan items, gets rid of Staff focus.
A ~gun is quite fine as a focus for either/both lock + sorc.

Bard is a no, because only UA new Warforged can hide the focus.
Though some instruments are 2 handed and could qualify
for the latest UA 2 handed focus thingy.
Who's to say that talking to you is or is not, the V component?
Let's see a perception check and an arcana check.
Seems a little too far out there combo.

D&D 5e / Re: Unearthed Arcana: Eberron given away free?
« on: October 10, 2018, 04:13:36 PM »

Imbued Wood is fine, nice trot-out of commons with attunement.

Orb of Shielding is tricky.  It's probably not cost effective til around level 8.
But not useless before then.  At some point have a small golf bag of them.
Divinations, and then a focussed +2.5 on Conc and Save rolls = very tasty.
Not often you've thought : Hey where's that common that'll swing Orcus.
Keep it as is.  Candidate for whispered about c.o. trick "nobody" knows about.

2 handed focus = why would this even need to be optional.

Band of Loyalty hmm does this work on subduing hits too?
If so it's a major plot point item.

Cleansing Stone can mess with the Lifestyle Expenses versus
local Clerical orgs, balance point.  Could be a plot point.

Shiftweave is perfect for the Disguise Self + more 'Lock.

Spellshard is potentially fun depending on ruling.
Definitely can raise the scribing spells into "spellbook" chatter.
I want one for my Wizard or maybe even Tome'lock.

Armblade :  Mook tries to grapple off the armblade from a warforged
like the Avengers tried to remove the Infinite Gauntlet from Thanos.

Docent is perfect for a Thief 13.

D&D 5e / Re: Character Build Index?
« on: October 03, 2018, 06:20:55 PM »
Cleric anything is viable, as is Wizard anything.

Rogue 1 / Lore Bard 19 is as good an old fashioned Skill Monkey as any , and you get to be a top caster.

Paladin 6 / Sorc 14 is a burst damage combo (and similars) that got the most attention, still ongoing.

Barb 3 Bear and 6 Eagle / Druid 11 , and stuff as many goodies onto the 1 mile sight range.  Call it Radar.  It tickles 3.0e Divine Rank 1 memories.  iirc Sambojin did the best one around here.

Fighter 11 / Rogue 9 is an all the way down to Basic/SRD damage leader, and go up from there, to more specialties and better stuff like what SorO posted.

Gishes don't totally scan from 3.5.  The various 2 attack casters ... are casters (that happen to be not completely incompetent, if stuck in combat).  Valor Bard was an early fave but hasn't aged well, TreantMonk recently took this view of valor, i.e. Lore is better.  Bladesinger Wiz got 3 different guides over at giantitp.  Blade'Lock were nearly unusable until Hexblade in Xanathars.  UA Old Favored Soul Sorc works and is tasty, but was replaced by UA New Favored Soul and then replaced again by Divine Soul in Xan.

For lack of a better term, the various Spell Banks, are cheesy and break the gentleman's agreement, and a few more reasonable No's.  Necromancer army of the dead, is legal but a pain in the !@#$.  Sorc+Lock+nosleep = most people can't do the argument anyway and is got a well earned tweet-rata.  Glyph of Warding with a Bag of Holding to move it around is probably the best (shhh don't tell secret).  Spamming Leomund's Hut is daily nova, but wotc put out some demons with Dispel Magic at-will = nope.  Spamming Rope Trick is encounter nova, probably not too bad, wants teammates to spam with it, but see demon dispel.

Goblin + Revised Ranger in UA + Hunter, or Gloomstalker if you can swing it, is a straight to the point archer.  Dex, dex, Sharpshooter for feats.

Sorc Divine Soul + Tome 'Lock without breakage, is a fun spreadsheet-of-options build stub.  Spamming disguise self + disguise prof + expertise + Friends cantrip, is downright disruptive, technically totally r.a.i.

Aristocrat 4 / the Mommy xor Daddy 2 / Merchant Prince iirc is 5 levels / X -> Y for current worldlyness

if npc class doesn't count for multiclass penalties for all races = no penalties
aristo seems to fit how MissQ got started
standard array not elite array

1) background feat
3) any slightly moneymaking feat
6) any diplomancy lite feat
9) any criminal conspiracy-ish feat
12) custom relative the X worldlyness direction
sub in leadership for any 1 above to explain workstaff not stabbing her in her sleep.
(and provides easy framework for workers loadout)

triple standard loot for walking around
net worth = npc WBL + whatever you think the boosted business stuff is worth
parcels of:
regular gear, business gear of no value to anyone except workstaff, bad news gear + assumes traveling

D&D 5e / Nimblewright in W:DH
« on: September 24, 2018, 04:37:04 PM »
W:DH for Waterdeep: Dragon Heist.

In general I like the book on skimming.

The Nimblewright on p.212 is quite tasty.
The fluff + adventure back in the 40s and 50s,
provide some details.  Lantan Wizard dude
crafted it, and left it (?) with a cleric org.
It's able to craft another one of itself.

I'll guesstimate it's a Rare magic item.
This back implies some interesting things about crafting itself.

I want one.
I want one more than I want some Fighters or Barbs, or most Rangers.

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Re: What is 1 character level (or 1 hit die) worth?
« on: September 24, 2018, 04:27:35 PM »
It's worth exactly one half of 2 Caelic Commandments.

(click to show/hide)

Except for when if very obviously doesn't.  Like 4e.

5e is more opaque but you can see it with the full, half and third casters
and hints from rogue's sneak of fighters 3rd attack.

edit --- there's a Turning improver Resistance feat that can be taken more than once.
It's somewhere in a Fun Finds ; I liked it but have forgotten where/when.

Army of Undead ?

PhaeXY notices Rebuking Outsiders

Master of Shrouds (idk)

I don't search giantitp well, idk if this goes as far as it claims.

Turning info from reposted Cleric handbook PI + carnivore

Necromantic Oddities has a short section below the 1st post

Found quite a few references to the Comprehensive Guide To Turning,
but no functioning links.  Maybe wayback has the whole thing.  Maybe.

Unfortunately leadership assassination attempts are not rare, et tu bruto?

Nor military interventions into government.
However, If this particular candidate runs legally and
governs legally AND leaves legally (the tricky part) ...
he could maybe sorta possibly hopefully? be remembered
say like the USA's Ulysses S Grant or Dwight Eisenhower.

D&D 5e / Re: Unearthed Arcana: Dragonmarks
« on: September 10, 2018, 06:26:14 PM »
1 copy+paste boo boo edit necessary on Sentinel - Vigilant Guardian sentences 3 4 5 and 6 belong in Scribing.
Somebody needed more coffee before deadline = we've all been there.

The old '15 UA Eberron dragonmarks were 1 cantrip 1st 2nd and 3rd level spells.
Looks like they split those into Aberrant Dragonmark at first, and Greaters at level 8+.
Immediately suggests homebrewing Greater Aberrant Dragonmark feats doing a ~pick 'em.

The new ones aren't feats so much as they're Racial variants ( 3 different fluffs for it too ).

"Intuition Dice" only needs the 2nd paragraph for now, unless using the Greater feat, and the "intuition" part is fluff with no fluff other than the word.

Scribing, Healing and Hospitality are like a Variant Human
taking the Magical Training feat, yet compare badly.

Detection - every community wants 1 of these.

Finding - best Tracker yet.

Handling - for the proto ~supermount.

Making - is absolutely lovely.

Passage - semi Rogue dip and double get-out-of-jail.

Sentinel - Initiative and Shield on short rest = we have a winner.

Shadow - some Elves would pick this.  Some.

Storm - wants to give Waterborn Minotaurs a call.

Warding - dwarf communities might not even know they have one of these.
Dwarf teenager 1:  Dude did you get punched by a gnome?
Dwarf teenager 2:  Oh? no.  No it's a dragonmark see when I dippity this I can zippyzappy that and ...

Greaters have to be compared to Racial specific feats.
The extra spells known are very tasty to Ranger + Sorc.

Ultimate Ranger might be part of an extended series of
Ultimate classes done by an '04 era poster Szatany.

Somebody saved the whole pile, from the wotc-pocalypse.

His stuff used to be linked on a bunch of general and early c.o. pages.
