(For those in my games, sorry about the delay.  I should be posting soon.)

Welp.  Looks like this is ending.  Back to the Future Bad Future confirmed.

...and I wish I could say I was surprised.

Actually one thing that did surprise me is that everything seems to be turning red.  I figured the Senate would go blue.  Well, Dems snatch defeat from the jaws of victory again.

Oh god.  You know, the D&D wiki.org is a big place.  Sometimes I run across an old article no one has ever really read before.  Sometimes, they're steaming piles of crap.

This one was... legendary bad.  We immediately downrated it into oblivion, but holy shit is this a bad one: Mana Alchemist

You can read the ratings on the Discussion tab if you want to skip parsing it yourself.  God damnit SisterAcacia, this is the worst.  Placing it here cause I can't stop laughing/crying.

Lionel watched the others form their little magical deal here.  He was paying more attention than normal, muttering to himself, and scribbling something in his notepad.  In truth he was writing this all down, even the seals being drawn.  He wanted to compare him to his Uncle's research.  If this worked, then his Uncle was less mad than he assumed.  And that was dreadful.

And then it happened.  A foul miasma rose, and images began to flicker in front of him.

"What.... what is that?"

Might be a stupid question, but is the door unlocked?

It is indeed unlocked.

"I still don't see why we can't stab the things until they stop moving." Lionel muttered to himself, taking a drink from a canteen.  "I'd say we take out those cannibals first.  Small.  Human.  Been more recently active.  The other thing sounds little more than a wild beast to me."

Your rest is fairly uneventful.  It is good to take heart in your restful nights.  They're bound to get less common from this point on.  Whatever could you be dreaming about?

Who knows how many hours it is, but the sun is already in the afternoon barely visible behind heavy cloud cover when you are awoken by the bell of the driver.  "Mansion's in sight.  Tis a spooky trip here if ev'r.  I've never seen fields so empty before.  And I smell something positively terrible."  It's true.  The air here smelled heavy of smoke and burnt hair.  Whatever caused it, that fire had long died out but the smell lingers.

Before you stands a great mansion, clearly the work of old money.  It has all the bells and whistles you'd expect, but there was a thin patina of gray ash covering the thing.  In the front yard there is a out of place dirt mount with a well atop it, which seems half-baked compared to the otherwise well kept mansion.  And for the unusually perceptive, one might notice something else amiss about this place...  (DC 20 Perception: Do you... hear something?  It's extremely deep and bassy, like slowed down distant thunder, rising from the mansion itself.  It's dull, but you swear it's there.)

No actions it is.

Drosselmeyer and Akemi arrived in front of the master bedroom, met by a surprised Chim who immediately bowed respectively to his leader who was accompanied by an unfamiliar face.  "Meet in the front, we must go.  Time is of the essence.  Though if you can, grab my satchel." Drosselmeyer advised, pushing on ahead to the door and rapping on it rapidly with the end of his staff.

"We must go, there has been a change in plans!  Tarry not, slayers!" he shouted through the door. Glancing back at Akemi he continued, "They are in here.  I will listen to make sure my brothers are moving, please speak with them."

No sooner did he say that did the house groan significantly, and you felt the gravity shift ever so slightly as if the house had begun to tip.

He nods sagely.  "Agreed, let's be on our way."  He wondered about Elizabeth's theory here, that feeding him live animals would lead to his escape.  It was absurd, but... well, he couldn't put anything past this man right now.

Other than tearing the safe out of the wall and checking it's weight, I'm good.

You sure?  Not at all concerned about the house now shaking?

We are born of the blood, made men by the blood, undone by the blood. Our eyes are yet to open. Fear the old blood.

... well, that's the sentiment I'm getting from Drosselmeyer here.

Don't you want eyes inside your head too?  :D

The Baron was into some seriously dark stuff.

"Tis be a few more hours.  May as well get comfy and take 20.  I'll wake ye' when we arrive."

They're almost there.  Soon, you'll be passing through some large farmlands and fields owned by the Marlowes.  One evidence to their existence is that the fields were always kept and maintained as normal, even though no word of the workers have been made in months.  Right now, the fields were normal, but eerily quiet.  Not a single worker in sight.

Where did everyone go?

Soon, you will begin to see the great manor in the distance.  A well on a small hill is nearby.

Drosselmeyer turned left, left, left, and left and ended up in a completely different hall even though you clearly should have gone in circles.  "My deity guides me." he explained, going further into detail after banging on a door and listening to the cacophony of squeaking from behind it with satisfaction.  "When I awoke in this place, I was filled with strange knowledge and knew how to use the equipment in the Baron's lab.  I used the divine artifact to contact god, and was given sight beyond others, and knowledge of the changes in this realm.  And I wonder how you have been also enlightened as well, for most who wear the artifact cannot survive the knowledge with their minds intact.  That Magana, blast her, she misused the artifact.  She should be fortunate she is still alive."

Down this chute, hurry.  "We're almost there.  I do not know if you are aware, but beware that this insight is dangerous for the weak minded.  It gives power, but opens you to... things.  I am blessed with this insight, made wise by this insight, and may die by this insight.  Fear this knowledge." he warned.

Down that hall.  Almost there.  If the others want to get their actions in, last call.

Even if you were able, the crystal will find the wall quite solid (and Akemi, less solid) during transit through.  That wasn't natural.  How long as she and the rat been ghosts?

He would offer his hand, but though large for a rat he was still short.  Instead he offered the end of his staff for her to grab.  "This way then.  We'll take a shortcut."  And so the psicrystal will see Drosselmeyer and the lady walk straight through a wall.  It might take a few tries, but Akemi will make it through as the wall seems to lose cohesion and separates like liquid in front of her.  A familiar feeling.  Feels like when you were kidnapped and pulled through the wall.

For Akemi, her vision was a bit off.  Not only were there holes, indeed hallways, where there should not be any, but the environment seems somehow different as well.  Largely eerie, not unlike the time she had spent in those warped tunnels.  And the rat seemed to have ghostly tendrils emitting from his head, coming through the back of the helmet.  It seemed purely visual, as he gave no indication of having them and they were certainly incorporeal.

Behind them, the ground shook again.  The large hole in the center of the room groaned and the edges crumbled as the hole began to widen, and swallow up the room.

Drosselmeyer must hurry, squeaking loudly all the way when he reached key parts of the hall.  I believe Matsu and company may need time to react.  The psicrystal will have to retreat if it doesn't intent to be devoured by the expanding hole.

The strangely-helmeted rat stepped back in hesitation, caught off guard at the sudden mysterious appearance of this.... it was human, wasn't it?  Yet it rose from the underdark like a dark folk.  Now that he thinks of it, her dress and mannerisms.  When the second bandits had entered this mansion, that is the party, they had a female member among them.

But the scissorman had spirited her away to his shadow tunnels.

"Impossible.  You are... you are indeed her.  I know you, though you do not know me.  And I know of your compatriots.  But..."

Rumble.

"Right.  There isn't time!  Disaster is looming, we must escape here!  And your eyes... I have seen that look, you have seen it?  The twisted realm, haven't you?

We must escape here at once, this place has become unstable.  Please follow me if you can, I must alert my family.  I will bring you to your friends as well.  The wall, do you see the passage ahead?"
He points towards what is clearly a blank and door-less wall.  Or..... is it?  Make a Dark Insight check, DC 10, though the higher is better.  Your score is +5.  If you're successful, you will realize there is a passage through the wall.  It's tight, but it works.

Deep below, activities continued to be revealed to the doctor's psicrystal.  The rats by and large scattered, a few rats sticking behind draped in crude mimicries of priest garb.  They proceeded to dismember the scissorman, and then surrounded the whole thing in a magical circle composed of grime and excrement.  It was filthy, but it "worked" presumably.  And Drosselmeyer sat patiently, the helmet humming away and dimly glowing.  And then they left to join the others, and he was alone.

There was a fair bit of meditative silence, before Drosselmeyer glanced up and kneeled by a wall, apparently speaking to something invisible to sight and sound.

"My lord!  It is I, Drosselmeyer the Speaker.  I bring news, and entreat questions."

There was an eerie silence.  There is no one here.  You're positive of it.

"Good angel, the scissorman is fallen, but the barrier remains.  I do not understand.  I was granted visions of the future through the blessings of Thoon, the Voice from the Deep.  It said that if the scissorman dies, the barrier would be no more.  But it only gets stronger."

...

"Good angel, please, speak to me.  Why do you ignore me?"

...

"...

...what... what is it you are doing exactly?"

There was a long period of silence, as he studied the walls in confusion.  Suddenly, the walls seemed to shutter and groaned as if subject to tremors.  It was mild, but even the others within the master bedroom would notice the minor shaking.  The mansion was shifting shape and size again, and it was getting more intense.

Something about this triggered a moment of realization within the rat.  "Angel of Thoon, it can't be.

I... I think I understand, but, no... no, none of that makes sense.  Why would you do that?  The hole.  It is too deep, I cannot survive there.  What about our escape?

Oh no.

Oh no!

No!"

Drosselmeyer stepped back in horror at whatever sights he saw.  Behind him there was a slap of flesh on stone, and a soft feminine grunt.  He spun around witnessing an arm sticking up over the edge of the vast pit in the middle of the room, as a somewhat short but familiar looking woman pulled herself out of the pit.

"WHAT!?"

Her appearance... it wasn't one that Drosselmeyer immediately recognized, but the psicrystal has seen someone like her before.  It was Akemi.... you think.  Her hair is bleached pale, her eyes different, and her knightly armor stripped down and altered.  And she appears to have just crawled out of a pit to the Underdark.

"A....a human!?"

The ground shudders again.

For Axejack, your current surroundings are as follows:

It is a lush master bedroom conspicuously lacking the mattress and pillows on the large bed.  At least there are still blankets.  The walls have tapestries, fine mahogany chairs, and some other smaller expenses you might find in the bedroom of a rich person.  Along the wall were several large portraits of a noble man and woman, presumably the Baron and Countess respectively.  The Baron was a weasely looking fellow, ill fitting for the far more beautiful Countess in her ravishing pale faced glory and delicate hands.  In spite of the appearances of a proper lady, she was painted with a rapier at her side.  This was unusual that a lady was trained in swordsmanship, but those with the proper Knowledge Nobility checks might be able to glean more.

Also here, one of the paintings was ajar as if it had been jostled.  The appearance of a hidden safe was behind it.  Unfortunately it seems to be very well locked with a strange combination system and no keyhole in sight.

If you're just gathering random supplies and bagging them, you should be able to resell them for a pretty penny.  Accessing the safe is another matter.  You could potentially rip the safe out of the wall too, but that won't open it.

Chim is currently just outside the door, oblivious to your plotting.

In the room where Drosselmyer was proselytizing to his rats, hidden.

Still there then.  Alright, I'll illustrate that scene... soon.  I'd strongly advise the party to get their talking, looting, plotting, and other business done soon.  The next time I post to address that, there will be advancement.

For right now, it's just a long boring stint of Drossel mumbling to himself.
