Gaining additional attacks with a decisive strike monk
« on: April 02, 2014, 02:53:39 PM »
So I was curious as to how many additional attacks that you can add onto a decisive strike monk on their turn. I believe that off the top of my head that the snap kick feat and the planar touchstone that gives you an extra attack against a flat footed opponent would work. I was curious if there was anything else that would still trigger off
the full round action.

I suppose one could multiclass into ranger and use the bladestorm spell and attack with every weapon you are weilding but that would probably get a book thrown at me.

Haste wouldn't seem to work since it's worded as a full-round action, not a full attack action that Haste requires.  Snake's Swiftness might apply.

Any effect that allows an extra standard action would work since that could be used after the decisive strike and thus benefit.

Battle Jump and Sudden Leap might work, and then you just make sure not to get actual pounce if you want to keep the cheese down.

Usually DS is used more for AoO builds.

Yea, attack of opportunity builds are the norm for decisive strike. I was wanting to take it in a new direction and see the most you can get out of it on your turn.

Could someone post thr text of decisive strike monk? I'm at work and don't have the relevant material on hand.

Depending on how it is worded, if you can gain an extra standard or quicken a spell you might be able to double spell damage.

No.
Would you die if you jumped from my perceived ego to your IQ? - Is 15secs of confirmation bias a goal post worth arguing for? - Ever asked a "victim" what they did to deserve it? - Are the words teen, SJW, & liberal synonyms? - "Only Sith deals in absolutes" contains a misspelled word.

Decisive Strike

Purely against the intent of the class feature, but I believe spell damage would be doubled if you quicken a spell that requires an attack  roll to use. Not saying I am planing on using it that way, it was just a result of brainstorming and is not what I was really wanting to do with it.

Oxyrhynchus Planar site

Now I know Oxyrhynchus would work if they were flat- footed, you would need to be either an 11th level monk or posses snap kick for it to trigger though. But the way the ability is worded confuses me, and can be argued, so how the hell does it work?

Also a quickened Whirling blade would work as well, since Decisive strike doubles all damage and not just the unarmed strike damage.

Try the Roundabout Kick feat from Complete Warrior (bonus unarmed strike on a critical), or the Frostrager's One-Two Punch ability, or Tiger Claw boosts like Raging Mongoose.

Roundabout kick, without ways to boost critical threat range, is too situational and I would only take it if I had an extra feat lying around. It does work with Decisive strike though, so that is the direction I am wanting out of this thread.

Dancing Mongoose is perfect for the idea. I thought the Tiger claw maneuvers only worked on full attacks or were standard actions.

Didn't we have a list somewhere on this? If not, hell I'll throw it in Class Boosters.

War Hulk in Miniatures Handbook was given an errata that Mighty Swing is an attack action rather than a standard action.  Since the single attack from Decisive Strike still counts as an attack, they should work together.  It's not an extra attack against the same creature, but hitting several at once is useful.

I went ahead and threw it in. Honestly, Sun School might stick around but the PrCs will get cut. The charging section already covers a couple ways to obtain Pounce, sticking Shadow Pounce over there is a better fit.

Alternative area attacks, like the War Hulk also opens the door to things like Mithral Tornado, Adamantine Hurricane, Whirlwind Attack, Marruspawn Overcharge Zyme, etc. It's not granting additional attacks, but modifying things into smacking all opponents within range. That sounds like something for another day.

Added the new "Additional Attacks" spoiler to the thread. As always, any additions are welcome, either here (since it's on topic) or my submissions if you're worried about necro'ing this one (assuming decay).

Why would anyone use that without boosting crit range?

So, you should go for crit boosting. Robe-and-Dart (Dragon Mag), Precision Assault (EtFoW 131), Improved Crit and maybe Disciple of Dispater 8 (BoVD) with Aptitude (ToB) for a range of 9-20/x2 or 13-20/x2 and Roundabout Kick still in effect (although the interpretation of this Aptitude-Roundabout Kick-thing might vary).
Combine that with Dancing Mongoose and Great Cleave, also you gain +3 attack and +3 (or +9 limited times) to damage just by the Aptitude-Disciple-Combo. If you can improve that crit range just a bit more, you should have infinite attacks. Btw, Blood in the Water might be nice for crit confirm/dpa.

Does your Class Boosters handbook have a separate discussion thread? Although it was mentioned in an earlier post in this thread, you didn't add Snake's Swiftness to the ways to gain extra attacks. Although it doesn't stack with Haste, it is only a 1st level druid spell. So you could have a follower/hireling follow around your decisive strike monk and spam it from a wand every round for an extra attack.

It should since I tried consolidating them down, however Prime added a new feature to the boards that I recently learned how to use that I could get around to editing the thread and fix through. Either way I can get Snakes in the next time I'm free.

Also speaking of the Monk, I posted a NecroMonk build in chat last month or so. Not 100% but it was probably Monk 7 / Divine Crusader 1 / Bone Knight 7 / Crusader 1 / Ruby Knight Vindicator 4. You can use Martial or Passive Way Monk to obtain Combat Reflexes and help out in taking Karmaic Strike (and later replacing it with robilar's gambit) and other such AoO based Feats to use with Decisive Strike & a Bonecrafted Gauntlet to play things off as some kind of super hard hitting BBEG. Similar to the Pale Master with a little torture from a Schiver you can become immune to damage and have a nice Undead army on top of access to at least one 9th level Spell and the Monk's Shadow Blend Concealment.
