A temp came in to tell his bosses "I'm having car trouble, I won't be able to make it tonight."  He drove in, said he needed to leave to fix his car, and drove off.

His boss called him next day and he said he'd be late cause he was still working on his car. 5 hours later they call him back and he says "You were right, that job just isn't for me."

Apparently when he started last week he went home early his first two days, and was told to think about whether he wanted this job. He had an epiphany that the bills needed paid somehow. Apparently it didn't last.

The guy out sick wont return till Saturday, still no person on third, general clusterfuckage and 16 hour days continue. The alarm system continues to say there are alarms going off because doors are open. But only on doors whose alarm we bypassed. And only when they aren't open (nor is their alarm sounding). Got relieved today when I found out they had a flex officer coming in because she badly needed hours and I didn't have to work multiple 16 hour days in a row. That changed to guilt and anger when she turned out to be A 70 YEAR OLD WOMAN WITH A WALKER. Apparently the truck gate she worked at got destroyed when a vehicle ran her over, breaking her back and crushing her leg. WTF FIELD SUPERVISOR?

Today I had a falling out with a friend that compared mind-reading to rape on the basis that it "strips you of any sense of security in yourself".

Honey, I've been given psychotropic drugs against my will based on a wrongful diagnosis of schizophrenia. You have parents who do hypnosis. There isn't a fucking baseline for comparison here.

I feel like living in a pandemic is mostly a risk-management scenario. There's obvious shit like "wear a mask" and "wash your hands", as well as "avoid densely populated spaces", but then there's shit like "my family is doing christmas things and not wearing masks indoors, so I have to make myself scarce."

I ended up making the decision to leave the bay area before christmas travelers show up, and come back after they've all done their gross traveling. Turns out Amtrak is strictly enforcing social distancing by only selling 1/4 as many tickets (so each person gets their two seats and the seats behind them), they have none of the fancy dining service, all payments are cashless, and if you are seen without a mask at any point during the trip they remove you from the train.

I feel like it was irresponsible to travel because it entails casual exposure to a bunch of people, but I'll take very short term masked exposure over a bunch of travelling family members who OBVIOUSLY don't know how to distance themselves congregating in a house for a week. Yeah, I have my truck to hide out in, but it's fuckin COLD out there right now, since my battery backup can't run a space heater, and I got sick last time from breathing cold damp air for hours on end.

The good news: When I return, I have a 0-contact graveyard security position lined up. Interview passed, paperwork done, I just need to show up once to grab the uniform from an office running a skeleton crew, so no contact there either. There's nobody to interact with at the site either, just a desk position watching an outdoor plaza. Doesn't even have required patrols if the weather sucks.

Putting it very mildly, yeah.

The worst part is that I keep reliving this stupid conversation in my head about all the things I probably should've said.

As usual, the universe underestimates bhu's ability to survive.

Seriously though, glad it went ok.
