Gaming Advice / Force vs DR

I remember hearing (I think on this board) that force effects ignore DR.  Anyone know where this rule is?  And if it applies to DR - (dash)?

I'm especially asking in regards to chakra bind Crystal Helm, that gives the force descriptor to melee attacks.

Dominate Person targets one humanoid.

A half-celestial human is an outsider(native).

This means Dominate Person does not work on a half-celestial human, right?  Even though he's got a humanoid shape (with wings).

The plan is to stack this with a normal natural attack.  The "(a standard action)" part of the quote has me confused.  Would I get all my natural attacks with the elec damage, or would I only be able to do 1 nat attack if I wanted to add the elec damage?

There's a good chance my guys may find themselves being trained by someone who considers himself a drill sargeant.  One of the NPCs will be a dwarf who doesn't know when to shut up.  At some point, he'll be told to "drop, and give me 20!".  While the PCs are training, they'll hear the dwarf complain "This is so unfair.  Pushups are harder for dwarves"

It doesn't matter if it's true or not, he's going to complain.  But I'm wondering if it is true?  Dwarves have the same weight as humans, but in a shorter frame.  So their center of gravity is closer to their toes, which makes pushups easier, but the center of gravity is also closer to their arms, which makes pushups harder.  I don't know which one wins out????

Punishing Stance (TOB-69): +1d6 damage with melee, -2 AC

You can switch stances as a swift action.  But what if you decide you can't take the -2 AC any more, but have another thing you used your swift action on.  Can you simply end being in a stance as a free action?

Ethereal Filchers can pop from the Ethereal Plane to the material plane as part of a  move action, grab an item, then pop back to the Ethereal Plane as a free action.  Ie, it steals something before the PCs even get to react (unless they ready an action).

What's involved in deciding what they can steal off the PCs?  Sleight of Hand?  An attack roll?  Having to render the PCs helpless?  In this instance, they don't care about being observed.

FWIW, I'm saddened that the SRD doesn't include the picture in the MM.  I love that picture.

The TrueSpeak DC for an utterance vs a PC = 15 + (2 x HD)
For a creature, it's = 15 + (2 x CR)

Did the PC part get errata'd anywhere to be ECL, not HD?

Dragon Shaman Vigor (PHB2-13) provided fast healing for allies within 30' of the character.

When does this healing take place?

On the shaman's turn or the ally's turn?

At the start of the turn, the end of the turn, or anytime desired?  (eg, if movement happens, do you have to be within 30' at the start, end, all, or any part of the turn?


Edit: DMG-293 says fast healing happens at the start of the turn.  And since other shaman powers happen on the ally's turn (eg, bonus damage), we'll play the ally's fast heal at the start of the ally's turn if they start their turn within 30' of the dragon shaman.

Gaming Advice / Psionic power point pool and gestalt

When a psionic character multiclasses, all his power points are put into 1 pool and can be used by either class.

How does it work if she gestalts 2 different classes?
a)  Does only the better of the 2 apply, and each class draws from the same pool?
b)  Does he have 2 different pools, 1 for each class?
c)  Do the numbers add together and make 1 giant pool?

It seems like (a) is correct, but it just seems wrong since spell casters are treated more like (b), getting seperate spells/day.  This is my first gestalt game and I want to make sure I'm not overlooking something.

Complete Champion, p46 lists the ACF for the Barbarian.  Taking the Lion Totem so you get Pounce at 1st level is a common thing.

But does choosing lion totem means you're required to take the 5th & 7th level ACFs for the lion totem as well?

When doing gestalt, how do sneak attack, sudden strike, and skirmish stack?

Rogue/Spellthief - each get 1d6 sneak.  They don't stack, so the final character gets 1d6 sneak.
Rogue/Ninja - does sneak & strike stack?
Rogue/Scout - does sneak & skirmish stack?

My gut says sneak and skirmish do, but sneak and strike do not.  But I'm unsure.

When computing initiator level, how does level adjustment and racial hit die figure in?

TOB, p39, seems to alternate between "class level", which I assume means ECL, and "levels in classes taken", which I assume means don't count LA.

2 characters in particular:

A half-celestial human (LA+4) with 2 levels of the NPC Warrior Class, ECL=6, initiator level = ???  (I'm guessing 3 = 6/2)
A pseudodragon (LA+3, racial HD 2), 1 level of NPC Adept, ECL=6, initiator level = ???  (again, I'm guessing 3)

Telepathy - specifically, the telepathy of a pseudodragon (PC, not familiar or AC), and the empathic ability of a familiar.

Can it work through walls?
Does it need line of effect?
Can telepathy be used to read minds or does it only get what the non-telepath intentionally projects?
If it can read minds, is it just surface thoughts or does it go deeper?

The DMG has some charts for generating a random town.

There's several web sites that have implemented these charts, so all you have to do is click a button.

But the charts only use the PHB and DMG base classes.  Does anyone know of a website that has included other classes into the charts as well?

I was looking at the NPC class Adept, and came across the following line

Does this mean that adepts don't require 8 hours of restful rest to regain spells?

I noticed clerics have the same line; druids do not have this line.

Gaming Advice / Flying Castles?

Where are the guidelines for designing flying castles?  The only place I can think of is the stronghold builders guide, but I remember seeing a message on these boards that had a lot more places to look -- but my searchfoo is getting me nowhere.  The message I remember was either about flying castles or flying ships.

Actually, my player already has a flying castle that sits on a cloud (taken over from some evil cloud giants).  What he wants to do is radically expand the land (cloud) area surrounding the castle proper.  Any way to do that without it being hideously expensive?

On page 128 of the DMG, there's a list of 100 traits that I like to use to stop all my NPCs from being the same.  But I've used this list for a while now and I'm repeating things.  Anyone know of another trait list?
