Artificer - Create Item
« on: September 06, 2012, 05:05:40 PM »
When an artificer creates a magic item, I know a UMD check is required to emulate the spell.

But what if the artificer doesn't have the stat in question to cast the spell?  For example, he wants to emulate a cleric-1 spell, but he himself only has a wisdom of 10 - not enough to cast 1st level spells.  Does he need to make a second UMD check to emulate the wisdom score?

I don't believe he would have to.  The "Item Creation" section only says he must use UMD to emulate the spell, not that he must also emulate having a casting stat or whatever.
Besides, if the spell is Cleric 1, then it's also Favored Soul 1, and Favored Soul uses Charisma to cast.  Or if your Arty prioritized Int over Cha, use the Archivist version.

Edit:  to clarify, your Arty is not actually casting the spell, only emulating it.  The normal rules for being able to cast a spell do not apply.

I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right.
