I forgot to mention a five-foot step. If there's space, she'll do that first. If not, she'll fire point-blank, because she is not very good at melee. That, and she'd have to draw a knife, or pistol-whip it with a very fancy pistol.

He pushed forward relentlessly and brought the axe down hard in an overhead swing.

I'll assume he tags along. The church scene is grim. Dead things and people are scattered about, and while it looks like the towns folk won, they paid a bit of a cost for it.

there are volunteers but they seem more willing than able. Most are shaking like leaves in a whirlwind, old, injured or have no combat experience. How many do you want?
