Is there a way to Rubuke/Control a 21HD Undead at level 16?

I have an idea for a build and want to rebuke a 21HD undead to be my minion. Problem is, Clerics can turn their level +4 maximum (20HD Creature).

Any ideas?

Really having issues trying to come up with a way to shape-change, wildshape, or the like while in an antimagic field.. My GM likes to mess with us and I'd like to find a way to change form despite antimagic.

Any ideas?

Anima Mage.. Totally an Anima Mage

I believe the spell-aimed AMF would still be effective to a large extent.  It should prevent him from being targeted with spells (as the AMF would block line of effect).  However, it would not prevent magic weapons from functioning fully (as they are entering his space to hit him.)  Also, anyone entering his space would also not be affected (namely, if they got swallowed or somesuch.)

At least I think that's how it would work.
I might be being a dunce here, but Antimagic Field does not block Line of Effect. A line of effect is a straight, unblocked path that indicates what a spell can affect. A line of effect is canceled by a solid barrier.

Since AMF is not a solid barrier and you are excluding yourself from its effect via Extraordinary Spell Aim, you still get hit by any spell they cast at you. Anything cast in your vicinity won't work until you move but that's a different story.

In either case, if he dropped the field to breath, then got hit with a readied spell, bringing the field back up wouldn't then suppress the spell now affecting him.  The normal AMF would do so.
Far better idea to use the standard AMF.

8
Why not just add in Extraordinary Spell Aim, to exclude himself from the effect of the AMF? Would allow his buffs to stay up, and wouldn't need to drop it every round then.

Granted, it means his breath weapon is essentially useless, but...

Um.. Because using Extraordinary Spell Aim would mean he is unaffected by the Antimagic Field.. which means he would be subject to spells - thereby negating the reason for having Antimagic Field in the first instance...

Wow, thanks for all the assistance guys!

Does qualifying with one spell count towards: Arcane caster level 5th?

At level two to have a Caster Level of 5 (to qualify for a Prestige Class)

Any ideas?

Min/Max 3.x / Creating a Battlerager
« on: November 08, 2012, 10:50:56 PM »
Hi guys

I'm looking at making a Battle Rager (google Thibbledorf Pwent to know who I'm talking about if you don't know) without using the abhorrent Prestige Class.

So far I’m thinking the following build, giving him good defense (when combined with heavy armor etc) and an ok offence  - this isn't a high powered game so this mediocre damage is ok.

Ranger 2
Dungeoncrasher Fighter 2
Lion Totem Barbarian 2
Deepwarden 2
Something 2???

Str: 17+1 Level
Dex: 10
Con: 19+1 Level
Int: 12
Wis: 8
Cha: 6

Feats:
Flaw 1: Weapon Focus Armor
Flaw 2: Weapon Focus Shield
Level 1: Endurance
Level 3: Improved Bullrush
Level 6: Extra Rage
Level 9: Blood Soaked Rager
Fighter 1: Power Attack
Ranger 2: Two Weapon Fighting

I need another class/prestige class that will make this guy into the fearsome, slobbering Rager he should be. Any suggestions?

I made a "one shot, one kill" archer for a melee vs wizard game. After I'd finished with alterations he could kill almost anyone within his range with one shot. Very feat intensive and a jumble of classes (including non updated 3.0 but this is really 3.5 according to Wizards). I never got to use his final build though. :(

However this was a RAW contest where you could get/purchase anything within reason (except for infinite loops) )and was 12th level.

14
Which means this doesn't actually work at all because as soon as you are in range you are counted as being "in melee"....

It would be more beneficial if you could advise if there is an actual rule for when melee begins, rather than being a smart ass about fluff Soro. Sorry to call you out but that response annoyed me.   :-\

Personally I believe Melee begins when both parties have attacked. I don't know of a rule for this but it would make sense - otherwise it is a surprise round and melee hasn't been joined

15
I hate it when people discover my tricks.

What then dictates the situation of being "in melee"?

The wording states some-one can be grappled and have an execution performed on them. Melee has begun once one person grabs another. Once you go to swing that axe you are effectively "in melee".

Umm.. I can build a 20th level grappler with a consistant +80 odd to his grapple check who would not be scared of this guy at all. Heck I have a non-magical grappler at level 10 who has +48 to his grapple check.

+47 seems very low and his counter to Freedom of Movement is?

Entertaining though.

Min/Max 3.x / Re: Help me build 1-2 Crafters
« on: August 24, 2012, 10:03:35 PM »
Do they have to be artificers?  If BoVD is allowed, then you play as a Binder 5/Ur-Priest 2/Divine-Adapted Anima Mage 10.  Sacrifice people for Darkcraft XP and gp, and then bind Astaroth to craft whatever the hell you want that day.

Suitably evil, but they can be only seventh level :)

In PHB2, there's a spell called Transference - it lets you use other (willing) creatures XP for crafting instead of your own.  If the group's getting the items, they oughta be willing to cough up the XP.  Or you could bribe some NPC to let you use his.

Or charm people into letting me use their XP.. :)

Min/Max 3.x / Help me build 1-2 Crafters
« on: August 23, 2012, 10:11:27 PM »
Hi guys

Looking for some help creating one, possibly two Artificers (or other crafters if they are better) to make all manner of items for my group.

This guy/guys will be 7th Level, and created using 32 point buy. Infinite loops (i.e. Thought Bottle) are not allowed but any dirty tricks are fair game. Plus these guys don't get any extra XP with which to burn through.

I ask because I’ve never created a crafter before. I’m looking for what they can do to make crafting far cheaper than buying as many items as possible.

Any takers?

Firstly, thank you to everyone who has made suggestions. Very helpful!

Warlock can do it if you focus on no-save invocations.
Verily, I agree most wholeheartedly.

Wait, plus fucking fourteen modifier?!?!!!  :twitch :o  Tell me that's also the DM's age.  Nothing else makes sense.

You could also try the Healer  :lmao and disguise the fact your stats suck by doing the one task that will make you popular at any table that winds up with such an absurd ability score spread.  You'll be bored out of your mind, but no one will notice you aren't doing anything useful.   :smirk

Thirty fucking eight ability score.  38!  :twitch
... In a row!
Total modifier my friend, total modifier  :lmao

You could use dragonwrought kobold for +3 to mental stats.

You could play a muckdweller (Serpent Kingdoms, p71) and take an albatross (Stormwrack, p52/165) as your familiar.  Combining one of the few tiny races with one of the few small familiars lets you ride it.  An albatross has a fly speed of 50 feet, so you might be able to keep out of harm's way.
Now this is a hilarious idea

I vote for Lesser Dragonborn Arctic Ooze Para-Genasi. You can swing a 22 in constitution that way, plus a breath weapon so you can qualify for meta-breath feats. A solid tier 3.
I think I'd get prodded with a red hot poker if I tried this..

Melee wizard. Get a dagger and run to the front.

Your next rolls will liekly be better.
Trust me.. I thought about it, but I don't know how optimised the party will be and I'm sure I'll be able to create something worthwhile  :)
