D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Could a Beguiler replace a Wizard?
« on: January 30, 2014, 08:23:34 AM »
I'm playing a generalist wizard in a 3.5 party composed thus:
- A Barbarian ( THE BSF; who's gonna be a Runescarred Berserker)
- A Binder ( half a BSF; who has multiclassed as wizard just to continue as an Anima Mage)
- A Bard (sort of a Face, although only interested in bardic music; planned to advance as a Virtuoso)
- A Druid (in love with summon nature's ally and wild shape, planned to stay a Druid)
- A Favored Soul of Lathander (the healbot, planned to advance as a Sacred Exorcist for the DMM cheese)
- Me, the Wizard (a conjurer domain wizard planned to dip in mindbender and be mainly a IoT7V)

I'm usually the magic babysitter of the party, taking care of everything they can't handle (this includes almost everything we've experienced, since none of them has a decent mastery or knowledge of their classes' capabilities). Now i was thinking of replacing my wizard with a beguiler, but, although he would improve the party on the "roguish" side (the bard refuses to do that), i'm afraid he would lead to party's death in the blink of an eye (since until now we're alive only due to my wizard's powers)
If this can help, we're on the point of beginning the trilogy of "Cormyr - The Tearing of The Wave", "Shadowdale - The Scouring of The Land" and "Anauroch - The Empire of Shade". I don't know anything about these modules, so i can't imagine if a beguiler could be useful or not. Do you have advices or thought about it? I'd really appreciate any help you can provide.

i looked at the IoT7V and it's fantastic! Do you have advices about a feat progression and a build for an Incantatrix/IoT7V progression?

I'll take a look at the classes, thanks! But i'm starting at level 3, i'm just planning the build on the long run. I'm not sure i'll not suck because i have no idea which spell would benefit more from arcane thesis and which feat would benefit more from easy metamagic. i was thinking of enervation or orb of fire (with elven spell lore) but i suspect that they would begin to be useful (with metamagic) at high levels and before i would be a dead weight

Min/Max 3.x / Help with God

Hi, i am here to seek help for my god wizard's build.
I play in 3.5, in the Forgotten Realms setting; i can use every manual (except for Kingdoms of Kalamar), and we start at 3rd level.
The plan is to begin with the "Expedition to Undermountain" campaign (modified to support our power level and our iniziative) with a 5-members party: there's a druid who plans to be mainly a summoner, a bard who's designing a bardic music-centred build, a binder that is focused on the BSF role, an Ilmater's cleric who wants to be a buffer/healer/supporter and me. We want to reach and go beyond epic levels (it's an high-powered campaign). I am a human wizard from the Sword Coast, i picked the domain wizard variant (conjuration) instead of the focused specialist to remain a generalist (others members of the party tend to need a magic babysitter in every field) and took 2 flaws. My master let me pick the 1st level "elf wizard" substitution level for bg reasons. I chose the Collegiate Wizard feat but i am uncertain about the other 4 (it depends on the chosen build).
I think that trying to be a buffer/debuffer/cc together would only lead to be a "waste of space", so i want to be mainly a debuffer/cc (with buffing almost uniquely restricted to spell choice) and i was thinking to be a Wizard 5/Incantatrix 10/Archmage 5/then we'll see, maybe Cloistered Cleric 1/Dweomerkeeper 10. I am sure that my project sucks and i surely need advices in: which build would be optimal, which feats i have to apply easy metamagic to, which spells i have to apply arcane thesis to, which other feats i have to choose (now and during advancement).
My abilities are:
STR:  10
DEX:  18
CON:  18
INT:   18
WIS:  10
CHA:  12
I am not good at builds (nor at english), so if you need clarifications or more informations just ask. Thanks in advance for your help and attention.

Introduce Yourself / I bid you good morning, gentlemen
« on: January 14, 2014, 06:09:11 AM »
Hello everyone, i am Calaca94, a mighty (although not-so-seasoned) D&D player! I was introduced to 3.5 a few years ago and, after a lot of rhapsodic campaigns and one-shots, i'm still stuck there, still dreaming of taking a wizard over the 7th level. A few months ago i moved away from my hometown to attend university, and at the same time i finally found a stable party to play with (and it is in my hometown, so i'm playing my first "serious" campaign on skype: that really sucks). After some lurking (on the old board) i decided to register mainly to get some build optimization and general advices for my character, but i'm also interested in some good GDR-talking (and in other ordinary things too! My banality ranges from literature and philosophy to cinema, music and videogames!). Even though i know this post is unlikely to receive answers (or to even be noticed by anyone), i hope to see you in my coming "please i beg you my illustrious masters help me creating a decent wizard" post; farewell.
