D&D 5e / Re: Getting The Most from Ranged Melee

I guess what Im saying is - which do you think will come up more often?

- Sneak Attack
- ColSlayer
- AOO from PoleMaster/Bonus attack from backend and "Cleave"
- Or people being within 5ft of each other half the time (since it does twice the damage)
- Or should I forgo all this and just focus on the ABI from the Ranged/fighter?

I can't really decide which is more useful in an everyday setting

D&D 5e / Getting The Most from Ranged Melee

Hey guys, I am really torn between a few different character concepts and I honestly can't decide which to pick.

I want to play a melee character, I know that much for sure, I just can't decide which one.

My thoughts -

Fighter8 (CrossEx,Sharp)
Fighter8 (PoleArm,HWM)
Fighter5/Ranger3 (CrossEx,Sharp,HordeBreaker) gives another attack at +3 +1d6 + 13 +1d6 hunters quarry for 4 arrows
Fighter5/Ranger3 (CrossEx,Sharp,ColSlayer) gives +1d8 +1d6 hunters quarry for 3 arrows
Fighter5/Rogue3 (CrossEx,Sharp,Assassin) gives +2d6 sneak

I love math and as a by-product Im sort of a min/maxer, so I've created no less than 20 excel DPR tables - but they are all fairly close and Im stuck.

Which one of these builds in your opinion is the most viable? and, as a side question, which would probably have the highest DPR over multiple sessions? I'm curious to see if I didnt account for something (you guys tend to be quite a bit better at this than I am).

Thanks for any and all help

Hey I think I finally figured out what I want to play and I just want to check in to make sure its optimized effectively and that I'm doing the to hit/damage correctly

Ok its starting lvl 6 and I rolled these stats -

str - 16 + 2 racial bonus = 18
dex - 16 + 1 for lvl4 bonus = 17
con - 16
cha - 13
wis - 12
int - 11

I am playing a human variant so I get an extra feat and the Gestalt/Homebrew is from a special barbarian class that the DM is offering

So the feats would look like this:

1 - JotunRage(Barb), Reckless Rage(Gestalt/Homebrew), PA(lvl1), WF(Racial), IAS(Gestalt/Homebrew)
2 - Brawler(Barb), Uncanny Dodge(Barb)
3 - TWF(lvl3), BoarStyle (fighter)
4 - Boar Ferocity (Fighter), Close Combat(Brawler)
5 - Close Combatant (Brawler)
6 - WS(lvl6), ITWF (Fighter)

That might not be the exact order, but those would be the feats.

The reason I chose Boar over Dragon is because I qualify for Dragon right now. My DM allows retraining so I will probably switch later on (this is a maybe as it kind of depends on how i like the Demoralize mechanic)

for equipment I have two +1 fire gauntlets

So here is my attempt at yer boi math:

With Jotun/Reckless my str jumps up to 18 + 6 = 24 (+7 mod)

With brawler rage power and IAS my attacks are 1d6, then with JotunRage they are 1d8

With ITWF I should get 4 attacks (2 main, 2 off).

My main attack will be (7str + 6BAB + 1WF + 1EB + 1CC -2 PA - 2TWF -2 Size) = +10, my offhand would then be +5.

So +10/+10/+5/+5

for damage it would be 1d8 + 2WS + 4PA + 3CC + 7Str +1 EB + 1d6fire

So 1d8+17 + 1d6 per attack and add an extra 2d6 bleed damage if two or more attacks hit.

Ok so question one - how did I do on the build? question two - how did I do on my math?

Is there anything that you guys would change or sub out in terms of optimization?

Thanks

My name is Nefariis, Ive been a casual gamer for about 8 years. My favs are pathfinder, 3.5, and 4e.

Pretty much what gets me excited about the game is the math/optimization behind the game. I'm just a nerd that likes excel (the worst kind of nerd).
