another question... would the lesser fey'i (no higher abilities, and not outsider /+1LA) be eligible to pick up the half fiend transition class?

You know I've kicking around ideas for a Shigekuni Yamamato style build that kind of sounds like you'd like.

Fire Shield
Namely, use Fire Shield in conjunction with a Ring of Mystic Fire. Your shield deals 5d6+CL (max 20) damage. And there is a BoED version that half the damage is divine that Cleric can learn. Refluff the Good to Evil and pick up Vile Metamagic. Unlike the Balor Nimbus it works against any melee attack and one half the damage is (sortof) uncurable.

Minions
The standard Dominate Humanoid Spell works well enough. To really play into the evil aspect don't forget to animate their remains. In fact...

Flaming undead minions
Cut into either Prestige Bard, [Divine] Bard, of the Inspire Courage ACF for Paladin. Pick up Lingering Song, Requiem and Dragonfire Inspiration as Feats and if Bard based you can trade one of your Musics in for Song of Heart. Badge of Valor+Inspiring Song+Masterwork Instrument later and it's an at least +4d6 fire damage augment and you can Inspire all nearby Undead for a number of rounds equal to ConcentrationSpent+5. :D

Poisonous Bite Attack
Illithid's Grasping Mandibles costs 15k and gives to a Bite attack that deals 2d6 damage, comes with Improved Grab & Constrict as well. There is a Yuan-Ti Graft called Poisoned Fangs and I'm sure you can see where I'm going with this...

Fear
There is several ways to do there and we have a Fear Handbook. So have a link.

all great ideas, soro. thanks.

would you go with the tiefling/half fiend or the fey'ri?

Any Humanoid form is still pretty decent.

yeah, the form is.  but from my reading, it doesnt appear that you get anything from the forms except nat attacks, and movement speed.   you dont even get the nat armor, which is a huge bummer.

seems to basically be all about the 10+ to disguise

maybe run Fey'ri over Tiefling/Half-Fiend Transition?

The Alter Self at will is quite godly.

its no longer alter self, its now "change shape" as per the web update.

would you still consider that godly?

Well certainly not nearly as good, but it depends on what forms you could take I suppose.
Where is this web update, it is news to me.

this is a followup to this thread

im not planning on playing it... this is just a build exercise.... making an arch enemy for my angel build.

what i am basically looking for is a combination balor/succubus that can be built by class levels/prc's etc.

what i am pretty sure of is that a lesser tiefling with 1 level of the half-fiend transition class (1 LA bought off).  she will basically charm people into having her way with them then use them to her advantage.  she likes combat also and can buff herself.  she can use diplomacy or kill you, each with great ease.

the build so far is warlock 1/ cleric 4/ eldritch disciple 10/ mystic theurge 5.... (houserule 1: practiced spellcaster affects warlock's EB damage and CL.  houserule2: warlock can use arcane related prc's) so that ends me with 16 levels of invocations with 20th lvl EB and CL.  9th lvl cleric spells.  pretty good.

with this build i can already:
buff to large size and be a combat beast with divine power/righteous might.
get a lot of temp hp with the wild frenzy divine patron gift.
use the eldritch glaive in close combat for some nice dmg. (fluff it to look like its flaming?) or EB from a distance (brimstone and vitriolic blast essences).
fly (fell flight)

im looking for suggestions for:
balor-like flaming body (maybe fire shield from fire domain?)
demonic/evil feats?
poison for the bite attack?
charm/domination to get followers (charm domain? ... charm invocation?)
fear attacks?

this build is not set in stone... any better ideas are welcome! the more the merrier.  also, criticism on this posted build would be great also!! thanks!

no homebrew... all 3.5/3.0 and most dragon are ok!

Persisting draconic polymorph to become and angel is a good strategy.

Feel free to reflavor spells too. My aasimar swiftblade turned wings of the dragon into wings of an angel, but getting it with a feat does seem better.

i couldve sworn there was a feat somewhere that allowed you to reflavor (a certain amount of?) spells.   i didnt know that thing was considered "free"

im still looking for a halo! a feat, ability, something?

Have you tried the Solar Channeler of Shattered Gates of Slaughtergarde?

nice find. i have never looked inside that book, so this is the first time im reading that prc. its pretty cool but it loses too many cl's and i wanted to have the angel-ness on at all times.

i really like the serene guardian prc for another build though.. fun stuff!

that is indeed pretty cool.  i really like the feats too...  id prefer not to use any homebrew though.

hmm.. what about favored soul? i just looked at it again, its extremely bland.  any idead on how to spice that up maybe?

and i am really interested in feats that have an angel/outsider feel to them.

*edited first post to say that homebrew is not really usable, but dragon & all 3.5 is. *

well, not actually an angel.. most likely lesser aasimar, with a level of the half-celestial transition class like described here...

so thats only 1 LA, which can be bought off?? right??

anyways, the build: i was thinking a standard cleric 9 /crusader 1 /rkv 10 ... would be plenty powerful and versatile.

i also like the celestial bloodline/outsider wings feats (races of faerun) so that we can get some nice pearly feathered wings.

however those things, along with everything else that comes in between and after is very up in the air. if anyone has better suggestions im open to all of them.

also, i am looking for some way to get some sort of halo on his head, maybe even with a cool effect (light? scorching ray..etc?) if that exists.

basically i want a solar, but with character levels.   how about ancestral relic for the weapon maybe?

EDIT: all 3.5, most 3.0 is ok! dragon is ok!, no homebrew plz. thanks.

Nope, that's pretty straightforward.  Sucks that you're giving up Abrupt Jaunt, though.

abrupt jaunt is great.  but the INT of this character wouldnt be very high anyway so at most it would only once a day at best.

Malconvoker already makes you lose 1 caster level; losing another one for an ability that can be acquired via a metamagic rod is not a good deal. You'd always be 1 full spell level behind full casters.

mm rods are only 3/day.  this can be used for free on every summon ever.   you are right that 1 CL is a high cost though...

12
i want to use a cleric base, with a 1 level dip in conjurer, so that i can use the rapid summoning variant:

Quote from: SRD
Rapid Summoning (Ex)

Any time a conjurer using this variant casts a summon monster spell, its casting time is 1 standard action rather than 1 full round. (Creatures so summoned can only take a standard action in the round they are summoned.) Conjurers using this variant gain the normal benefits from enhancing a summon monster spell with the Quicken Spell feat.

A conjurer using this variant permanently gives up the ability to obtain a familiar.

and have that in turn apply to the summons from the cleric spells.

would i get a book tossed at my head for that?

Min/Max 3.x / Re: Please Help Me With My Necromantic Swashbuckler
« on: September 22, 2012, 02:10:24 PM »
I'll suggest something different.

Divine casters have a much, much easier time doing a number with necromancy than (most) arcane casters: they get Rebuke Undead, they get Desecrate, they get to use an Inflict Light Wounds wand or cast Harm, later on. Dread Necromancers can do these things (not Desecrate unless you fiddle around a bit), but they're straight up worse for versatility.

Swashbucklers are basically just tricky, flashy warrior types. No need to use the class of the same name, which incidentally doesn't really allow you to do cool, flashy things anyway. But what class does? Initiators do, and Swordsages are the swashiest of those.

Now it's time to mix and match:

Swordsage 2/Cleric 2/Crusader 1/Ruby Knight Vindicator 10/[full divine caster] 5.

Focusing RKV on Swordsage maneuver progression, you get all kinds of neat, swashbuckler-y stuff to do in combat, BAB 16 (full BAB with Divine Power, of course), and 8th level divine spells, with some nice Wis synergy tacked on for good measure. Practiced Spellcaster bumps your CL up to 20. Corpsecrafter feat line makes your undead minions powerful. White Raven maneuvers can be cherrypicked to help your pale buddies in combat, while not detracting from your own actions. Mix RKV levels with [full divine caster] levels to get the maneuvers you want at the levels you want. Burn turn/rebuke undead uses to fuel swift actions and get your most-beloved maneuvers back, nullifying the Swordsage's weak points. All in all, quite a measure of goodness, if not totally optimized.

See? You don't have to suck moose testicles with three levels of Swashbuckler, just to 'build to a concept'.

im counting your CL as 15, with practiced is 19... what am i missing?

Min/Max 3.x / Re: Constructor or Malconvoker?
« on: September 15, 2012, 06:24:15 PM »
Malconvoker is infinitely more powerful than the Constructor. It is an objective fact. That using the Malconvoker as it was designed to be used, abusing Planar Binding, requires the use of a very nice helmet. The constructor is powerful and useful, but nowhere near the stupidity of Malconvoker.

can you elaborate on basically this entire post please?

what makes malconvoker in itself so infinitely more powerful?  is it the planar binding?

and what "special helmet"  are you referring to?

thanks

where can you get IUS ? ive never seen it.

for instance is it legal for a human to take the elf domain? please provide book/chapter if it is available.

any chance of there being a builds section either in here, or in the handbook? i have tried to make a dragon pc into "the ultimate gish"  but it never worked out to be better, or as good as a human.

I'd love to include builds, but I'll need some first. I've never been good at build write-ups.  :(

the only one that i have is:  wyrmling steel dragon 4hd/ singer of concordance 2/ abjurant champion 5/ sacred exorcist 9.

it has bab 16, and cl 19. it includes bought off 2 la, the loredrake archetype, and using the cheesy reading of true dragons "automatically" qualifying for prc's that call for the dragonblood subtype.  i'm truly not even sure if this build is legal.  i am really wondering if dragon pc's are more trouble than they are worth...?
