I really like the idea of being a shadow... Disappearing in one and appearing in the next... Thief... Assassin... All around deadly. Oh and of course throwing a lot of dice.

He said he is open to more content.... After looking it over I didn't like it as much as the link I provided. But is that build on the link pieced together or somewhere in a book? I can't seem to find it.

Min/Max 3.x / This Noob is back.... Need help with a build for 3.5.
« on: April 03, 2013, 06:18:21 AM »
The build is a Shadowdancer Assassin...
http://dungeons.wikia.com/wiki/Shadowdancer,_Assassin_Variant_(3.5e_Prestige_Class)

Last I was on I was in search of a fighter... then turned to a wizard and loved it till game ended. DM didn't have time. Now he is back and wizard slot is already filled. Instead of light I want darkness. I haven't been able to find a build for what I want other than on another web site that someone made up but it is the best build I can find to what I want to play... Any help? I am really looking for a rogue like melee class that can shift from shadows and be like the assassin. I know this could be accomplised through gear but would prefer to keep this the benifite from the build and then smother the icing on the cake with gear.   If this helps:

Starting lvl 9
Starting gold 36K
Books:
DMG
PHB
MM
FRCS
PGtF
SpC

Min/Max 3.x / Re: [3.5] Crafting weapons?
« on: April 11, 2012, 11:21:04 AM »
Why do you need weapons as an incantatrix? You have spells... Unless by weapons you mean magic items in general.

I've heard putting some passive weapon enchantments, like Warning and Eager (MIC), on both ends of a double weapon such as a quarterstaff can be an effective use of caster resources.

Also, a wand chamber (Dungeonscape) in both ends.
That would be the reason that I would grab a weapon. This is what I found ad was wanting to do:

A +1 Eager Spellstrike / +1 Warning Defending quarterstaff costs 36.600 gp and gives you a huge amount of bonuses (assuming magic weapon, greater is casted on both heads, with a rod of lesser chain for example).
+5 bonus to AC which stacks with all others.
+5 bonus on saving throws against spells and spell-like abilities (it has no type, so assume that it stacks with all others).
+7 bonus to initiative checks. (actually +5 insight and +2 unnamed).

But with my limitations I was looking for other spells to compensate. The books that are available to me are: DMG, PHB, MM, Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, Players Guide to Faerun, Spell Compendium.

Min/Max 3.x / [3.5] Crafting weapons?
« on: April 10, 2012, 02:50:49 PM »
As I am trying to build a new character I am trying to piece together some gear. I notice there isn't very many weapons that my character could use (wiz/shdw adpt/Inctx). So I started to look into how weapons are created. Looking into the enchantments but see there are weapons that have more than what is listed. It seems tht they may carry the same qualities as spells or potions. So how can one craft a weapon? Can one use a spell or potion to achieve that ability that they want? If so how much to charge? If so which spells/potions can you use/not use?

Oh that makes sense.... Still stuck on DM giving me a green light on it. So until then I am going to build a wizard/shadow adept/ Incantrix or Druid. Idk.

Wait, does SRD count?  I vaguely recall something about Forgotten Realms as being explicitly "psionics are not magic", which means they would function in wild/dead magic zones.  A King of Smack build would probably be viable, and is similar in play style to what you initially wanted to play.

Sorry to double tap on this buy I just found this which states that psions are magic and are affecte by anti magic zones.

I spent a lot I time into the psions. I liked what I saw but the DM said no because that was a whole other type of... "force" (sorry don't know what t call it). He said it was another effect that would change the game and he would have to be accountable or when it came to monsters. So he shot me down.

Also, even with core-only, there is an item that lets you communicate with others while wild-shaped.  It's the cursed amulet of thought projection, in the DMG.  This lets you be wild shaped 24/7, which you can do by level 8.

From D20SRD:

Medallion of Thought Projection
This device seems like a medallion of thoughts, even down to the range at which it functions, except that the thoughts overheard are muffled and distorted, requiring a DC 15 Will save to sort out. However, while the user thinks she is picking up the thoughts of others, all she is really hearing are figments created by the medallion itself. These illusory thoughts always seem plausible and thus can seriously mislead any who rely upon them. What’s worse, unknown to her, the cursed medallion actually broadcasts her thoughts to creatures in the path of the beam, thus alerting them to her presence.

In order to be the "best" Fighter, you need Champions of Valor, Dungeonscape, Drow of the Underdark, and possibly Complete Champion.

In short scrap my fighter and and roll a cleric / wizard or some sorts?

Play an Initiate of Mystra?

This is just a feat for a cleric correct? Or is that it's own class?

Also to question you guys.... So many have said to roll a cleric or wizard but can you build a good mix between the two? Or are clerics good enough by them selves? I don't like to be upfront hitting more behind casting or buffing or healing (if I must).

the druid is going to be the best "tank" there's ever going to be... and since you guys still don't have an arcane caster i'd go with a sorcerer (going into mage of the arcane order) or ideally a wizard.
[/quote]

My first choice was going to be some type of caster but I was kind of turned away when the DM told me that there are pockets to where magic either doesn't work at all or it may have a complete different effect on the target. I would have to roll checks to see what would happen. A matter of fact I was looking at a sorcerer or wizard.

Is it As good as a a fighter can be?

As you guys (and ladies) can tell, I am a noob. So when you critique this please go easy....

With that in mind I was limited with the material I was able to use. The books we are allowed to use are: DMG, PHB, MM, Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, Players Guide to Faerun, and the Spell Compendium. Everyone was at lvl 10 when I joined.

The DM informed me that the forgotten realms have pockets of no magic zones and other areas where spells may have a completely different outcome. When I started to look at the group and what classes it was constructed of, it was hard for me to choose. For the most part this game is still in the dark and Not knowing much. It was made of a Druid, Monk, and a Rouge. I figured a fighter would fit and be the "tank."

So here's my build:

Ranger 1 / Fighter 8 / PDK 2

STR-18
DEX-13
CON-18 (has +2 from LVL)
INT- 13
WIS- 14
CHA- 10

Feats:
Combat expertise
Dodge
Improved Crit
Leadership
Mounted combat
Ride-by attack
Power attack
Weapon focus
Weapon specialization
track

Class feats:
Wild empathy
Favored enemy
Heroic shield
Rallying cry
Inspiring courage

Gear:
Great sword w/ shocking burst
Dagger
Mithral Full Plate
Mithral heavy shield - Animated
Ring of protection - +2
Amulet of Natural Armor - +2

Many are asking why the ranger. A friend said to do so to get more points for skills. IDK....

I want to be something useful to the group and I figured this was best. Please help!

I have tried to build a fighter and thought it could be better in comparison. When I saw this layout I was like it is balanced out to the rest. I may post mine to show what I chose... Depending on if thi is the place to share it.

Help is needed...

I have only played D&D 3.5 one other time and once again I jumped into a game in the middle. Then we switched to 4 Ed and as quick as we switched we stopped. Even when I played in 3.5 I chose a character that sounded good and the DM pretty much created my character sheet and nothing was really explained.

Now I am joining into a game that everyone is at lvl 11. The books that I was told that I am allowed to use are: DMG, PHB, MM, Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, Players Guide to Faerum, and Spell Compendium. Starting stats of 14, 16, 18, 13, 10, 13. Also I cant use a race that gives a LA.

I have talked to may of friends in my area and they say start of with a fighter, barbarian, ... "they are the easiest." I don't like being the main person that is in their face. I don't like being the face of the party either. I have always like the druid that I first played. I enjoyed shapeshifting and having the pet, but also being able to heal my self and others. Casting wasn't that big for me until I played a Wizard in 4 ed. I enjoyed sitting back and blowing things up from a far.

I guess what I am asking from the Pros.. you guys, is with those books how great of a character can I make? I think I want to roll a druid. If you guys have another input please let me know. Don't forget I am somewhat a Noob! I don't what everything given to me, I want to be explained why it is better so I understand. You know... "Give a man a fish and feed him for a day; Teach a man to fish and feed him for life." I have searched all over the net and have seen some really good builds but they include books that I am unable to use.

I was just searching through the Internet to see how people build a fighter at that level to get ideas. Them I ran into your post and was curious if that was a new revision. I would have to do some changes and The lvl progression is way better.
