Pimp my warmage
« on: June 20, 2013, 11:30:55 AM »
After finishing a game with a god wizard i'm up for some mindless blasting, i know it's not the best position but i just feel like it. The thing is my resources are limited, and i still want to be usefull to the party.
My sources are anything published in spain, in short : PH2, CArcane, CDivine, CWarior, Cadventurer, vile darknes, libris mortis, Miniature handbook,  BoED, some of dragonlance, RO and Eberron. With some exceptions, like devotion feats.
We are starting level 10 and i have two builds i'm thinking of using.
One is warmage 6/ rainbow servant 4 stats STR11 DEX16 CON14 INT12 WIS15 CHA18+2(lvl)  Race undefined, probably human.

Feats 1 Evocation focus, knowledge devotion, arcane disciple(War), Holy warrior.

Spells learnt i don't know. How do you see it?

The orb of _ spells in complete arcane are considered very good, especially with  metamagic.

http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=8709.0  Warmage handbook--including thoughts on the whole "small list [middle-back of C. Arc, after the feat selection], but knows everything on it"
http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=2660.0 Rainbow servant handbook--including early entry trickery.

Also consider http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/mb/20050112a Kauper's Quickblast modified with something like Born of Three Thunders to do damage and possibly daze an opponent.  It isn't technically on the list, but it fits with their theme.

You might wish to look at this thread to get some more ideas on blowing things up.

If the Eberron stuff allows you to be Changeling, the Recaster is a great PrC despite the single CL loss.

You'll want some metamagic coming out your ears, so stuff like Arcane Thesis will be quite important for you.

The Elemental Savant class from CArc might interest you.  Most don't go to 10 in it though.

I don't know if this is covered in the sources already linked, but if you're aiming for fast blasts (off the top of my head):
- take "Rapid Metamagic" feat and pump up your "Arcane Thesis" spell as much as you can! Combine with...
- "Circlet of Rapid Casting" (MIC p.86-87) 15,000 Gps: Swift actions to cast standard action spells, yes please... Low level, though.
- "Belt of Battle" (MIC p.73): +2 Initiative, and perform extra actions in a round.

The War mage PrC from Age of Mortals will serve you well as a topper for your build. +3 to all of your damage dice when casting spells is brutal, and the ability to boost your allies AC with a morale bonus = your cha mod will make you a popular team member quickly. The erretta from ToHS tones down the damage a bit by limiting it to 3+con mod uses/day, but this class is still one of the best PrCs for mailman casters out there.
