So I'm working on the 2.0 version of my
weapon fix, and I'm making good progress on close to everything. The parts I'm making no progress on are Special Ammunitions, Cursed Augmentations, and Trapped Weapons.
I'm introducing a wide expansion on ranged weapons in this update, and naturally I wanted to include unusual ammunition. So far I've got the basic alchemical ammo (Acid, Cold, Electricity, Fire), "trick" ammo (Tanglefoot shot, Thunderstone shot, Flashbang ammo), and that's it. I wanted to include a little more before I actually start codifying the ammunition section. Any ideas for more types of unusual ammunition are welcome.
Everyone knows about cursed magic items. In fact they are so well known that we've even found a way to turn those same items into a blessing in disguise, such as a Barbarian/Bear Warrior that uses a cursed weapon to incite rage in himself at will instead of spending feats on Extra Rage.
That latter part is what I wanted. Cursed Augmentations are going to impose a penalty, but provide a loophole that allows them to be useful in certain circumstances. And that's what is causing me all kinds of problems: I have writer's block every time I try to think up something for this.
DMG2 has a section on trapped weapons, and ever since I watched Blade I thought it was a relatively interesting idea and wanted to turn it into a D&D mechanic. The problem is I have no idea what traps to make beyond a couple of simple ones. Specifically, I've got the trapped handle/haft ala Blade, a trap that sprays inhaled/contact poison, and a trap that causes the weapon to "disintegrate" (the weapon is actually segmented into dozens of small shards that are held together via magic, and unless the wielder is wearing a gauntlet keyed to that weapon it falls apart in such a way that it is useless until the relevant gauntlet grasps the hilt, at which point the weapon reforms itself as if it had never fallen apart). I definitely want more ideas here, as this is one of the big features I've been thinking about.
So, any ideas?
