Epic game restart

Howdy folks!  I just found out over the 4th that the epic game I play in will be restarted back at lvl1, but with 1-2 of our items/abilities from our lvl 24 selves.  The campaign is sort of a mashup of FR, Ebberon, Greyhawk and spelljamming.  We are(at least to my knowledge) still going to be an evil game and most of the party is made up of Drow.  There are 5 of us that will be playing, one psion(the reason we are starting back at 1), one force missile mage, unarmed fighter, myself(Favored Soul of Lloth) and one other that I can't remember. 

The Psion sort of broke the game for the DM through timestop schinanigans/persistant spells.  Three of us like to optimize, one is a theoretical optimizer, but his creations sorta fall short each time, and the DM is more of a Flavorcrafter.  The perameters for the builds are that we have to start as lvl1 as one of the base classes we were at 24, we get one template, and we get one item from our epic selves. 

I will be the only healing available other than clickies/scrolls, but the way the others optimize, very little healing is used in combat.  What I'm looking for is a lvl6-9 optimized build for either melee or ranged combat with a suitable template.  Templates that get better with HD are what I was thinking, but I don't have many books to search through with me.  All official WotC books are allowed, and the DM has allowed some Dragon Mag feats as well, though banned others. 

I'll post a couple samples that I was toying with when I first made teh guy last year when I find them.

I guess I should have put this in min/max3.x.  That said I started looking at some templates that scale well with HD and Phrenic really grabbed me.  are there any reasons not to take this as my template?  Are there any better ones for me?

Another that scales well with HD, and is overall fantastic anyway, is Shadow Creature from Lords of Madness (3.5 update to the 3.0 version that was in Manual of the Planes).  Every time you hit a HD multiple of 4, you get a new ability.  One of the better ones is Fast Healing 2, and you automatically get Shadow Blend, which is crazy good (look up the Shadow Mastiff in the MM1, it is the same ability).  FYI, total concealment means you are effectively invisible, because they can't see you, and thus can't target you.

Another good one would be Phantom from MM...5?  Though I'm not sure that one has a level adjustment.

Hey level 24 anything stuffed onto level 1 = T.O.

So basically you have to justify a Level 24 build
as an Ancestor build to the current build.
You can do well nigh anything by 24th level.
How much super-cheese can your DM handle?


Don't use In-combat Healing unless something "off" happens.
Out-of-combat healing is the standard tactic.

Psion + Phrenic template is a no brainer.

I'm guessing you are getting the LA handwaved away.


So the level 24 ability ... do you have to Still meet the pre-reqs?
Let's say you take an Epic Fighter Feat, but you aren't a Fighter.
Does the feat still work?   If it does, that's rather sweet.
Factotum 19 class ability + T.O. interpretation is very good.

So then this dude makes an Item, cost 25% of Wealth By Level.
We're talking a Staff Of Wish here.

Dry Lich and a +X Charisma item. Not super optimized, but should be fun.

Half-fey is another amazing template that scales well with HD. I personally like it a bit better than phrenic, even, and it has the same LA.

I've been looking around at some of my multiclass options as well, and now I wonder what this guy will be like when we make it back to epic.  Originally he was FS/CMed/something, but was to focused on healing.  I've read a few clericzilla threads so it seems like that could be a good starting place for me.  Since FS is CHA based, is FS/Sorc any good?  eliminates some of the MAD of multiclassing, but what would be a good PRC for something like that? 

I have plenty of time to build this guy as we're waiting for the DM's cousin to move back into the state before we even set a tertiary date, so I will keep coming back for advice until then.  I'm still very new to CO and have no hard-copy books to work with.  I should place some more books on my kindle I guess.

For templates.  what about half-fey with mirage Mullah?  That would be epic at level 1.

Mirage Mullah traps you in a location.  If you leave the location, I'm pretty sure you die or take Con damage or something.

Oasis Dependent (Su): Each mirage mullah is mystically bound to the fey oasis where it was transformed, and it can never stray beyond the light of its various torches, candles, and campfires (about 60 feet from the edge of the camp). Any mirage mullah that does so becomes ill and must succeed on a DC 12 Will save each hour or permanently lose 1 point each from Strength, Constitution, and Charisma. The DC increases by +1 for each previous failed check. If a mirage mullah survives 24 hours away from its fey oasis, it becomes mortal again, losing the mirage mullah template, and regains any ability score points it had lost at the rate of 1 point per ability per hour.

I will have to keep that in mind... being able to turn things fey is good.  Though Half-Fey is "cheaper."

Divine Mind 17 / UT 3 / Legacy Champ 4 with major bloodline
opens up the half-way decent level 30 ability.

could make a dagger thrower.. Ranger 2/ Fighter 2/ Swashbuckler 1/ Master thrower 3
Dex to Attack, Dex to Damage, Dex to Trip, can throw daggers and trip people or disarm people.

Y'know ...  ... a 24th level item by itself
is too imbalancing.  But selling a 24th level item
is a complicated minigame, and then you got
all that cash, and then the Metro Thieves and
Assassins guilds start cozying up to you.

Is it any template, even templates that don't have LA? If so, i have two suggestions

Paragon Creature or Pseudonatural Creature

They're both epic level templates that give you insane number boosts to everything. Pseudonatural is better in most cases, but Paragon might be better depending on what your base race is, since +15 boost to the DC of abilities is very good.

If it's not any template, what restrictions exist on what template you can choose?

As for an item, how about a ring of unlimited wishes? It would cost 10,060,000 gold plus 19400 XP to craft. Market price of 20,620,000. If i did my math right. It's something like that, in any case.

I don't think anything could be more useful than that... Unlimited gold, unlimited spells, basically unlimited almost everything pre-epic.

If it's any template, Paragon Creature would be nice at level 1.  Especially, if paired with any race that has a CL or ML for the +15 boost (kalashtar/duergar).... 

Otherwise a demilich(which specifically states that you keep your spellcasting), divine minion, ghost or dracolich could be fun.

I'm not sure if it's ANY template, or any appropriate template.  I saw Paragon and almost lost it, but I doubt I can get that one through.  Maybe once we make it back to epic he'll let me reform with Paragon.  I did run Phrenic passed him, and he seemed to like that, since we fought all kinds of Mindflayers and other Psionic creatures when we were all grown up.  We roll our stats in his game, and I was extremely lucky and have my lowest stat a 13, with Cha being 24!

As for the item that I get from my epic-self, it is ran sort of like a relic or legacy item, starts with one ability that it had at 24 now, and the rest will come with HD increases.  He's still working out how he'll do that exactly.

The things I WILL be at start are lvl1 Drow Favored Soul with a whip that will be amazing later on.
