Phantasy Star Online 2
« on: September 17, 2013, 06:46:26 AM »
I hadn't been able to play this for sometime due to bad net over the summer, but I finally got the time to update it up, and oh boy is it still a ton of fun. Despite the latest english patch not working at all. Actually that may be an advantage as it seems I'm finally being able to recognize some japanese characters here and there.

So who else around here is playing it? I know that Kuromaiken also has a character as well, altough since I have no idea on how to contact other players, I haven't been able to meet him in-game for quite some time now.

Right now leveling up my Braver class which is a ton of fun, in particular as I already unlocked multiclassing and can add Force support for heals and whatnot. Both katanas and bows deal a lot of damage if you just get your timings right and I get to switch between ranged and melee depending on my situation/mood.

My Mag still hasn't evolved because I really don't have much patience for the feeding minigame, and most of my skill points remain unspent due to being unable to decide on an optimal build (altough I got 3 free retraining passes), plus I'm still not very sure how the weapon upgrading system works, yet I'm still able to clear out most missions being thrown at me. Just gotta keep dodging, hiting the enemy weak points, and healing whenever I get hurt.

I must say I really like the enphasis on timed missions, puting an enphasis on always pressing on while dealing as much damage as possible. Also the fact that dying doesn't wear down your equipment, but rather prevents you from geting S rank on that mission. No promotions for those that fall in the line of duty!

Also something pretty cool that hapened to me the other day:

Also due to the great character creator and all kind of crazy equipment pieces, walking around the main ship sometimes feels like being in the mid of a cosplay event, in the good way.

Anyway here's some videos of my latest play session for those of you who never played it and would like an idea of the game (also showing off my uber skillz to those that do play :p)

I haven't been able to play it, but since I got a new laptop (this thiing), I should be able to run it without having to worry about lag after turning all graphics settings down.

You've reminded me it exists, though, so... yay? XD

My own laptop is an Acer Aspire, altought I've bought it quite a bit of years ago so probably an older model.

Anyway it runs PSO2 in minimum graphics whitout lag, even with the recording software and mozilla on the background, so you'll probably be fine.

Still wonder what exactly is taking Sega so long to release the game in english.

My previous laptop relied on integrated graphics, though, so I couldn't really play things that much, or it was annoying when I did. This one... has a separate graphics card. XD

The two things I was looking for when buying a new one? Separate graphics, blu-ray drive. XD

Yeah, the limitations of integrated graphics actually make me kinda surprised they went and did integrated graphics with the next generation of consoles.  It probably won't be quite as bad since those consoles have 8 cores each, but at the same time a middle-of-the-road PC GPU probably has more horsepower all by itself, before even looking at the CPU, than one of those machines.

I use to play it a long while back in its beta and a bit after release but kinda just stopped and decided to wait for the english version. I did really enjoy though, but I was getting a bit weary on having to trial & error my way through the menus that weren't the main ones that I could just look up online (inventory/equips/quests/only the most important NPCs)  :-\

I know there is yet to be any real date or even timeframe on when an english version will come out, but its fine, I can wait.
Just like how I'm waiting for Monster Hunter to rise in popularity quicker over here and someday hopefully lead to an english version of a MH MMO  ;)
