2 Skill points+Int mod per level, quadruple at 1st level. Class skills: none.
Proficiencies:None.
Features:
Shadow Body: The Shadow loses all other racial bonuses, and gains the following Undead traits, plus the Incorporeal subtype.
* No Constitution score.
* Darkvision out to 60 feet.
* Immunity to all mind-affecting effects (charms, compulsions, phantasms, patterns, and morale effects).
* Immunity to poison, sleep effects, paralysis, stunning, disease, and death effects.
* Not subject to critical hits, nonlethal damage, ability drain, or energy drain. Immune to damage to its physical ability scores (Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution), as well as to fatigue and exhaustion effects.
* Heals naturaly.
* Immunity to any effect that requires a Fortitude save (unless the effect also works on objects or is harmless).
* Uses its Charisma modifier for Concentration checks.
* Not at risk of death from massive damage, but when reduced to 0 hit points or less, it is immediately destroyed.
* Not affected by raise dead and reincarnate spells or abilities. Resurrection and true resurrection can affect undead creatures. These spells turn undead creatures back into the living creatures they were before becoming undead.
* Undead do not breathe, eat, or sleep.
As an incorporeal being, it has neither a Str score. It uses its Dex mod for melee attacks, and can get custom magic incorporeal gear by paying a 10% extra on the price. Consider it to have all the normal slots of an humanoid.
It is a medium sized undead with a flight speed of 40 feet, but only up to 5 feet above any surface. It cannot speak intelligibly.
In addition, it gains a deflection bonus to AC equal to its Cha mod. All its future HDs become d12s.
Meaningless Existence: A Shadow is the spectral remains of someone driven to suicide by lack of attention, someone that always lived in the shadows of others, which causes it takes some time to realize it is a spirit now, and will let itself be limited by several material hindrances.
At 1st HD the Shadow can be harmed by all forms of attacks and can attack others as if it was corporeal. it can interact with unattended corporeal objects for one round three times per day and cannot fly higher than 5 feet off the ground with good maneuverability, plus an additional 5 feet per 2 HD. It cannot completely hide within objects and interacts with water as if it had a swim speed equal to its fly speed. It cannot chose not to be heard by Listen checks though she receives a +5 circumstance bonus on move silently checks.
At 5th HD the Shadow loses the ability to interact with corporal objects but can now fly and interact with water as per the incorporeal subtype and receive a +10 circumstance bonus on move silently checks.
Nonmagical attacks made by corporeal creatures at the Shadow and melee attacks made by the Shadow against corporeal targets are now ineffective.
Magical weapons and spells used by corporeal creatures against the Shadow have a 10% chance miss chance, increasing by 10% at 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th HD (maximum of 50% miss chance, except for positive energy, negative energy, force effects such as magic missile, or attacks made with ghost touch weapons, as usual)
Magical weapons used by the Shadow against corporeal targets have the same miss chance if they aren't ghost touch weapons.
At 10th HD, the Shadow is fully affected by the incorporeal subtype as normal.
Weakness Grasp: Such is the feeling of inferiority of the Shadow that even its simple touch can weaken others. As a melee touch attack, the Shadow can inflict 1d3 Strength damage on any creature it touches. This can be used with Aoos, charge and perform iteratives, but not two-weapon fighting.
At 2nd Shadow level the Strength damage increases to 1d4.
At 3rd Shadow level the Strength damage increases to 1d6, and from here on will increase one extra die size at 6 HD and every 3 HD thereafter. At 10 HD even enemies that would normally be immune to it can be affected, but they're allowed at Fort save with DC 10+1/2 HD+Dex mod to resist. Enemies whitout Str score take Cha damage instead.
Unnoticed and Uncared: It's not that it is good at stealth, it's that others dismiss it as nothing. A shadow gains a +4+HD racial bonus on Hide checks in areas of shadowy illumination. In brightly lit areas, it takes a -4 penalty on Hide checks instead. It counts as having ranks in Hide and Move Silently equal to its HD+3 for qualifying for feats, prcs and other similar stuff.
In addition, as an immediate action it may attempt to instantly hide in an adjacent shadow even if being directly observed. The Shadow may even attempt to hide in another creature's “normal” shadow, in which case it moves along with them as long as it doesn't take any other actions and the other creature doesn't move faster than the Shadow's flight speed. Notice the Shadow itself doesn't project a “regular” shadow.
Ability Score Increase: The Shadow gains +1 to Dex at all levels, for a total of +3 Dex at 3rd level.
Prey on the Strong: Shadows degenerate into basic predatory instincts, seeking strenght in numbers, quickly overwhelming the enemy. The Shadow gains a +1 bonus to attack rolls for each all of the shadow adjacent to its target, and as an immediate action can re-roll a missed attack or miss chance, including effects such as Mirror Image. If the Shadow has 10 HD or more, it can force the opponent to re-roll a save against Weakness Grasp as an immediate action.
Under your Feet:When nobody looks at you, you end up looking at others harder than before. At 2nd level the Shadow gains a racial bonus on Spot, Listen and Search checks equal to 2+Shadow levels+1/2 other HD.
End Existence: At 3rd level sentient creatures reduced to 0 Strength by a Shadow die, and in 1d4 rounds rise as a 1st level Shadow under the control of its killer (10 on all stats base, can only take feats from the [Fighter] list). The Shadow may control such spawns, but if the equivalent Encounter Level of all those minions becomes higher than your CR-2, any Shadows created in excess are uncontrolled and leave. Controlled spawns cannot gain experience or levels, but the Shadow can release any number of them from its control as a free action.
Black Spite: At 3rd level the Shadow gains Turn Resistance equal to 1+1/2 HD.
CommentsKudos to Shadowknight12 for inspiring me to do this one.
The Shadow is another well known incorporeal undead, altough tecnically weaker than the Allip in combat abilities, it is however capable of creating spawns, that means a single Shadow can turn a village into an undead horde. And the villagers can do much against it since it's an incorporeal undead so good luck hurting it.
Using the Allip as a base, the Shadow focuses more on Stealth and swarm tactics, with the capstone of creating weak spawns.
So if you want to play a crazy passive-agressive ghost out to end the world on its image, the Shadow's for you!
