Faerun vs Forgotten Realms
« on: June 24, 2014, 08:44:27 PM »
I'm trying to organize my D&D files on my computer.  I've got a folder for non-campaign specific books (Core, Complete, etc)and a folder for Eberron.  But then I came to Faerun and Forgotten Realms.  As I understand it, Faerun is part of Forgotten Realms, but when I look at various lists of books, they seem to be seperated in two lists.  One that lists only Faerun books, and one that includes them amoung FR books.  So now I'm wondering if I should make 2 seperate folders, but them all in one folder, make Faerun a subfolder under FR, or what.  Any suggestions?

They are one and the same, for all practical intents and purposes. Faerun is the name of the main continent in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting, but it's basically where everything happens.

Thanks.  Sounds like the best thing is to throw them all into 1 folder.

PLZ's got that on a list around here somewhere.

Most of the other continents have their own 1 book, but its all 2e
Of the 4 2Ed. campaign lines set on (planet) Toril, 3 are on (continent) Faerun.  Only Maztica was on a wholly separate, tiny, continent.  Al-Qadim and Kara-Tur could be walked to from Forgotten Realms.  They really never got around to fleshing out that globe.
But they totally needed to nuke the setting for 4e to give the authors room to invent again!   :tongue
