Sandstorm Touchstones =/= Planar Touchstones? Summoner help.
« on: January 04, 2014, 03:09:48 AM »
Alright, I'm trying to build a theme build; an elemental summoner who uses beefed-up elementals for combat purposes.

So far, the feats I'm looking at are:

1. Augment Summoning (duh. +4 to Str and Con is beautiful.)
2. Augment Elemental (again, duh. +2 atk and damage, plus 2*HD THP, for all summoned elementals? Excellent.)
3. Beckon the Frozen + Icy Calling (basically, all non-fire elementals that I call will have the cold subtype and get +1d6 cold damage on all attacks. In Extremely Cold areas, they will also have maximum HP for their HD.)
4. Rashemi Elemental Summoning (the Orglash template is sex on toast; most pertinent bits are the +2 AC and +4 Con (OK, the Cone of Cold 3/day is nice too)).
5. Stalwart Planar Ally (if you summon a creature from a plane you have a touchstone on, they get +4 AC and +4 to Saves.)
6. Summon Elemental (Give me my steady stream of expendable Orglashes!)

Items-wise, I'm looking at Worldmeet Glade; build-wise, I'm starting from Conjuror 3/Master Specialist 4 to get the +CL to HP for all my summons.

I'm kinda stuck on two things:

1. Can I take Touchstones from Sandstorm with the Planar Touchstone feat? Rashemi Elemental Summoning sets the home plane of the elementals to the material plane. Unless, of course, there's a Planar Touchstone on the material plane, in which case I'm on it like fire on wood.
2. What other PrCs and feats are good? I remember that there is a feat that lets you summon creatures with max HP other than Icy Calling, which would cut down on prereqs and would be more generally useful, but I can't remember what said feat was called.

Ashbound only applies to SNA, sadly.

Malconvoker is the usual summoning PrC, but I don't recall if fiendish legion would apply to elementals.

Paragnostic Apostle gives fast healing (2-5) to your summons, but the flavor mentions something about giving a bunch of your money to the paragnotic assembly.

Cloudy Conjuration is pretty good for a free sickening cloud with your summons.

There is a feat that allows you to cast a buff on your summons as a free action.

Also, Rod of Maximize + summoning lower level dudes can always be fun.

Depending on the power level of your game, a certain interpretation of Invisible Spell metamagic can be nice on a summoner. ;)

Imbued Summoning - it's a +1 metamagic that gets you a 3rd level or lower buff on your summons (have to use the slot for the buff too)

Page 54 of Sandstorm does seem to imply that Touchstones and Planar Touchstones are the same thing.  But it isn't ironclad RAW.

Looking at Malconvoker, Deceptive Summons applies to all summons of evil-aligned creatures. It says that Elementals are usually neutral in their entry.

If I ever play this kind of character, I'd see if I could convince my DM into allowing me to summon evil-aligned elementals. Then I'd go ahead and rock an Initiate of Kossuth build.

Because who can say no to +4 Strength, +4 Con, +4 HP per HD, 2*HD THP, +4 to attack, damage, and saves, and +4 AC for all Fire Elementals that you summon? Throw on Worldmeet Glade for another +2 to saves, and you have some seriously buffed Fire Elementals.

Maybe grab Dragonmarked Summoner if there's space; +3 Deflection bonus to AC for all summons is damn nice (2-3 levels in Heir of Siberys isn't that much of a drawback). Paragnostic Apostle sounds good too... Would Fiendish Legions apply to the Summon Elemental reserve feat, I wonder...

Grab Imbued Summoning for Haste, and Superior Summons (that's the max hit-point feat I was thinking of!)... Scary.
