Spell: Shieldbearer
« on: February 19, 2014, 07:22:32 PM »
Funny fact - Animated shield floats 2' away and is based on your proficiency.

Shieldbearer foats 1' away and only grants the shield bonus. It makes no mention of ACP/ASF. Do you still suffer those penalties?

Also, if it was a wagon shield, assuming the spell counts as mounted, does it grant cover?

No, you do not suffer arcane spell failure or armour check penalty from the shield targeted by Shieldbearer. Those penalties apply only if you are wearing it.

An armour check penalty number is the penalty that applies to Balance, Climb, Escape Artist, Hide, Jump, Move Silently, Sleight of Hand, and Tumble checks by a character wearing a certain kind of armour.

A character who casts an arcane spell while wearing armour must usually make an arcane spell failure roll.

The wagon shield wouldn't count as mounted (since it is not attached to the wagon), but it should still provide cover like any object big enough to hide behind. So long as the wagon shield is in between you and the bad guys, you have cover.

Doesn't that equate to the same thing? You gain cover, partial or total depending on size.

I just find it funny how shieldbearer hovers closer and restricts you less. Smother me closer, tower shield.
