Stacking Natural Enhancement Bonuses
« on: March 25, 2014, 12:05:23 PM »
Is there any way to get the +2 Natural EB from a:
(click to show/hide)
With the +2 natural enhancement bonus of:

(click to show/hide)

I think no, but Damned if I don't want to figure out how. It "seems" like it should. One is from masterwork high quality craftsmanship, the other is from the material's psionic properties. Thoughts?

They're both enhancement bonuses. Enhancement bonuses don't stack.

I second this.

Stretching a bit, maybe these kind of bonuses could have been classified as "circumstance bonuses", due to the "circumstance" of being constructed in a certain way or of a certain material; or maybe even given different types of bonuses like "craftsmanship" or "special material"... That way they would indeed stack. As they are, they don't.

EDIT: Maybe the designers did this to prevent the MW quality enhancement bonus (to attack) from stacking with magic weapon enhancement bonuses.

I third it.  To me, "natural" just means "non-magical", but it's still an enhancement bonus that doesn't stack with other enhancement bonuses.

In addition, there is only Higa Steel used in the katana, so you couldn't even make it out of ferroplasm.

Meanwhile, the fluff is rather interesting.

I haven't needed to check up on how OA gets to and from the Astral.  But supposing 9s are available, you know/infiltrated the Smiths of that family, got one(or more if necessary) out in the astral, didn't freak them out breaking out the Blinky non-honorable stuff.  Fusion power of course.  PAO on the fused item.  Make and pay for a +4 item.  Use a higher level spell/power to pull it all off, say a Bend Reality.  Strange Crafting while hanging out in the astral, is not non-dangerous.  Sounds like a decent adventure.

Sir your sword is glowing.
<whisper>  Cap'n, I failed my knowledge checks.  Better keep an eye on him.
