Class FeaturesText
- Glyphs: The Glyphscarred Blade increases glyph points and glyphcaster level as if the character had gained a level in the arx class at each indicated level.
- Runes Known: At each indicated level of the Glyphscarred Blade class, he learns a new arx rune of his choice.
- Scribe Glyphscar (Sp): At 1st level, a Glyphscarred Blade learns how to carve a Glyphscar into her own skin. A Glyphscar is a means of storing a glyph, much like wizards utilize scrolls, and may be any glyph the Glyphscarred Blade is able to cast. Scribing a Glyphscar takes 1 hour, and the expenditure of materials equal to 5 gp × glyph level × caster level. The character may set the caster level of the Glyphscar at anywhere from the minimum class level necessary for her to know the glyph to her maximum glyphcaster level. She may scribe a Glyphscar only on her own body. The act of scribing a Glyphscar is painful and deals 1d6 points of damage per glyph level at the end of the scribing time. (The Glyphscarred Blade is free to heal this damage by any normal means afterward—the Glyphscar remains until activated.) A Glyphscarred Blade can bear no more than seven Glyphscars at any one time: two on the chest, two on the upper arms, two on the backs of the hands, and one on the face. Glyphscars are dormant until activated and cannot be dispelled (although they can be suppressed). To activate a Glyphscar, the character must take a standard action and touch the rune. All glyphs activated in this way target only the Glyphscarred Blade or an item in her possession. Alternately, the Glyphscarred Blade may touch a Glyphscar during a full attack action as a swift action, in which case it affects the next target struck and is then discharged. After activation, the Glyphscar's magic is discharged, and the rune fades to nothing but a faint outline. Typically, a Glyphscarred Blade's skin is crisscrossed with dozens of old, discharged Glyphscars. Glyphscars do not suffer from spell failure.
- Sword Focus (Su): A Glyphscarred Blade may perform a special rite to make a single sword into a focus for his glyphs. The Glyphscarred Blade gains +1 caster level with any glyph cast while holding his sword focus. The rite to create a sword focus requires three days and 1,000 gp in magical materials as well as a masterwork weapon. Magic swords may be attuned as sword foci. A Glyphscarred Blade may attune only a single sword at a time; if he loses the weapon, he must repeat the rite to create a new sword focus.
- Battle Spell (Su): At 3rd level, the Glyphscarred Blade may empower, as per the Empower Spell metamagic feat, one glyph per day. At 6th level, the Glyphscarred Blade may quicken, as per the Quicken Spell metamagic feat, one glyph per day. At 9th level, the Glyphscarred Blade may maximize, as per the Maximize Spell metamagic feat, one glyph per day. He gains additional uses for each of these abilities equal to one third his class level, rounded down.
- Ritual Scarring (Ex): Through frequent disfiguration of her own skin, a Glyphscarred Blade gains a +1 natural armor bonus to AC at 3rd level. This increases to +2 at 6th level, and +3 at 9th level.
- Powerful Glyphscar (Ex): When a Glyphscarred Blade prepares a Glyphscar, he knows how to strengthen the glyph beyond its normal effects. His caster level is treated as 1 higher for any glyph he casts with the use of a Glyphscar.
- Sublime Sword (Su): At 5th level, the save DC of any spell cast while holding the Glyphscarred Blade's sword focus increases by 1.
- Share Glyphscar (Ex): A Glyphscarred Blade can, if he so chooses, scribe a Glyphscar onto an ally instead of himself. Treat this rune as if it had been scribed by the Scribe Glyphscar ability, except as follows: The glyphcaster level is (when cast) treated as half of what it was scribed as, and the cost is 25 gp × glyph level × caster level. He can have a maximum of one shared Glyphscar per class level.
- Multiple Glyphscar (Sp): A 10th-level Glyphscarred Blade can activate two Glyphscars at once. Each time he activates a Glyphscar as detailed in his Scribe Glyphscar ability, he can choose to activate a second one as part of the same action.
