Help: google fu fail

Hi All,

I'm looking for a magical item, which I think is a mirror, that if you look in it turns you into a LN grey humanoid with average stats
I've tried looking for it on google, but can't for the life of me find anything.

have I dreamed it up, or is it a holdover from an earlier version of dnd, does anyone know where I can find it?

I remember a thread on here I think that was like "How to be a tyrant" and one item was a mirror at the centre of the city that could do 2 things, one was setting your alignment to lawful, the other was  make you obey three laws, the first law was like.... visit this mirror once a week... the other two  were just laws.

I can't remember what it was called though.

Is it Mirror of Simple Order?  Probably not, since I think this mirror is a 3rd party/homebrew item.

That sounds like a magic item from 2nd edition (or a retroclone):

The polymorphed character must succeed on a system shock roll to survive the change.

Like the polymorph other spell, there is a chance that the subject's personality and mentality change into that of the new form.

System shock rolls were from 2nd edition, as was the possibility of assuming the mentality of the new form with permanent polymorph effects.

You're right.  I've found it's in 2nd edition's "Tome of Magic" (not to be confused with the 3.x book of the same name)

Must be it - I thought that it was updated some place to 3rd (3.5)
