Low Level Optimization
« on: August 20, 2014, 08:13:12 PM »
What's a class that can do stupid amount of damage at low level consistently between level 1 to level 5. My group is running Phandelver at the moment.

I think for straight damage it's probably the orc / half-orc barbarian?

STR boost, two-handed, rage, power attack?

At low levels, Two-Weapon Fighting is pretty much the way to go.
A TWF Ranger dual-wielding any of the 1d8 weapons with Hunter's Mark up can do 2d8 + 2d6 + 6 damage, average 22.  That's at level 2.

You could sacrifice two points of damage to use a pair of d6 finesse weapons instead of d8 strength weapons, which would allow you to have Dex as your high ability instead of Str, which is probably worth it.
I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right.

Observe that Hunter's Mark is a spell that doesn't buff all attacks, just attacks against a specific target. Just something to keep in mind.

Moon Druid 2/Monk 1 in brown bear form.

Three attacks for 1d8+4/2d6+4/2d6+4 ain't bad, and that's without any buffs.
