Champion of Corellon elven gish
« on: September 25, 2014, 06:10:26 AM »
Hi. I tried to create a gish using the Champion of Corellon prc (to have Elegant strike). Quite feat starved, but it manages to do the "4 attack per round and 9th level spells at level 20.

The build is:

Race: Elf (maybe snow elf from Frostburn to have -2 cha instead of -2 con)

Wizard 8
Swiftblade 3
Dragonslayer 1 (to have armor & weapon prof)
Champion of Corellon 2
Spellsword 1
Abjurant Champion 5

At level 20 we'll have BAB +16 and spells as a 17th level - wizard.

Assuming no flaws, we need UA wizard ACF to take fighter feats. We can use Otyugh Hole for free Iron Will.

1: Dodge, Combat Expertise
3: Mounted Combat
5: Mobility
6: Weapon Finesse
9: Combat Casting, Spring Attack
12: Improved Weapon Familiarity
13: X (bonus fighter feat, with Combat Expertise, Dodge, or Mounted Combat as a prerequisite)
15: free (maybe Practiced Spellcaster to have full CL)
18: free (Arcane Strike could be fitting, since the char is a gish, or even Power Attack if we use an Elven Courtblade to do some nasty combo with wraithstrike)

Without flaws, how can the build be improved? I know that dropping Champion of Corellon could make easier to build a gish, but I'd really like to keep the "Dex on attack & Damage".

You can get Dex to attack and damage as follows:
Feycrafted weapon (reduces damage by 1 die size, but lets you "finesse" it)
item that grants any Shadow Hand maneuver (3000 gp)
Martial Stance feat (Assassin's Stance, likely)
Shadow Blade feat

Power Attack + Wraithstrike is ridiculous on a gish, especially if you use a two-handed weapon (which with the Shadow Blade feat will likely be a Spiked Chain...)

Unfortunately I think the feycrafted thing only works on 1-handed weapons.

As phaedrusxy already pointed out, getting Dex to damage is typically better done with the Shadow Blade feat.

Sadly, due to being weapon specific for both CoCL and Shadow Blade, you can't get both to apply to the same attack.

Besides that, your build looks good.
Some ideas: Wizard 8 seems so... meh!  You can do Wizard 5/Ruathar 3 for same BAB but some extra class abilities/skills/3 more HP.
There is also the option of replacing Swiftblade with Eldrich Knight.  While it saves you from taking Mobility, it you probably will need Militia/Otherworldly to take it early enough, so not sure if it's worth it without retraining on the table.

About mobility, by the way, armor of mobility gives it to you for 10,000 GP.

Thanks for the input.

Do you think that even if the shadow blade ruote is better even if you don't use "feat granting items"?

The items are in the Tome of Battle. They're not custom. I just couldn't remember the name of the Shadow Hand ones (I think they're called the Shadow Hands, or something unoriginal like that). They're analogous to the Crown of White Ravens, and come in three "tiers". The cheapest one is the Novice, and grants access to one maneuver of up to 3rd level for only 3,000 gp.

Yes, they are the Shadow Hands (and they're gloves! surprise surprise)
