Representing Feanor (3.5)
« on: October 29, 2014, 10:21:14 PM »
So, following on from 'Gandalf is a 5th level Wizard', what does Feanor get? My inclination is to have lucked out on stat roll and have at least 18 INT and CHA. Probably a Factotum or Expert, since his achievements aren't equalled.

Really, if I wanted to give him accurate stats, I'd say 'screw the rules' and stick his INT at 30 or something. Genius bastard.

Other opinions?

EDIT: Really, I'm also wondering how the Noldor compare to 3.5 elves. For all that they're one of the inspirations behind the generic elf, that just doesn't work. Hmm.

It mostly depends on how you want to balance questions of utility, simulation of the text, power creep and favoritism.

On a certain level, any Noldor, or other elves that went Valinor, are more Outsiders than by ordinary "mortal" elves. They would get the Native subtype, but they are still that much "above" the ordinary. Perhaps just treat them as Eladrin, though without the alternate form ability.
Feanor would start at the level of a Tulani, though given what he actually does (i.e. nearly kill Morgoth, create the Silmarils - hardly tasks for your average 5th level Factotum) you could easily promote him to Solar before customizing. He simply acts on that high a power level in The Silmarillion.

On a more "mundane" level, I'd say treat them as a combination of Gray Elves and Drow - Gray Elf stats with innate magical abilities and magic resistance like the drow, tweaked to reflect their status as craftsmen. They'd still have that Level Adjustment, but they are supposed to be well above Elves that never went to Valinor.
Feanor should still rate epic level status, just barely missing out on Divine Rank 0.

My issue is trying to balance Feanor's insane achievements with the fact that, in straight combat, he is inferior to Fingolfin--thus giving the only field he actually loses in, to his half-brother of all things. Throw all the Balrogs at him, he can still make a speech after. Technically, this places him well above Balrogs. XD

Hmmm . . .

Feanor = Artificer/Wizard (with no SR ignoring spells)
Fingolfin = Duskblade/Wizard/Ultimate Magus (variant who gets to channel all his wizard demon-exploding spells as if they were Duskblade spells) - or perhaps "divine" Duskblade variant/some demon hunter prestige class to let him explode balrogs

Feanor has an advantage when he can be TOTALLY prepared with artificer buffs but Fingolfin is always prepared to put the smackdown on badguy secret superweapons.
